Introduction: Atopic dermatitis is chronic eczematous dermatosis which is related strongly to a family history of atopic disease and hereditary disposition. Its threshold of itching is low so that severe itching occurs and causes secondary eczema. Adult atopic dermatitis has mostly severe symptoms and progresses to chronic relapsing. Objective: The purpose of this study was to estimate the efficacy of oriental medical treatment and management on chronic adult atopic dermatitis. Subject: We studied 3 patients who visited Dongguk University Gangnam Oriental Hospital Dept. of Dermatol. with chronic adult atopic dermatitis from August 2001 to April 2002 and were observed for over 4 months. Methods: We treated them with herb-medication, acupuncture, negative therapy, aroma therapy, full spectrum visible ray therapy(by carbon arc) and external application(Jaun-go). We used the SCORAD index to assess the severity of atopic dermatitis. Results: There were 3 patients with chronic adult atopic dermatitis we could check for over 4 months by clinical scoring using the SCORAD system. 1. The grades of the severity of atopic dermatitis were lower only by the oriental medical treatments and management. 2. Intensities of relapse cases were lower then before the oriental medical treatments. 3. The secondary treatment term for relapse cases was shorter then the first treatment term after oriental remedies were used. Conclusion: Considering the above results, more study is needed on the chronic relapse cases with adult atopic dermatitis, the factors of increasing seventy of adult atopic dermatitis, the prognostic factors of adult atopic dermatitis, and the clinical interchange of chronic adult atopic dermatitis between oriental medicine and western medicine.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effects of atopic dermatitis on suicidal ideation, plans and attempts in young adult. Methods: Data are from the Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VI, 2013, 2015) in a sample of 2,983 respondents aged 19 to 39 years. Data were analyzed using Frequency, Percentage, $x^2$ test, Complex sample multivariate binary logistic regression analysis with SPSS version 18.0 software. Results: Firstly, factors affecting suicidal ideation are gender, education level, smoking, self-reported health status, asthma, depression and stress perception. Factors affecting suicidal plan are education level, self-reported health status, asthma and depression. Lastly, factors affecting suicidal attempt are gender, education level, smoking, self-reported health status, depression and stress perception. Compared to non-atopic group, the prevalence of suicidal ideation and plan of atopic group increased from odds ratio 2.14 to 2.48 and 1.90 to 2.50, respectively. Odds ratio for suicidal attempt was odds ratio 2.69 (10% error level). Conclusion: The results show that atopic dermatitis in young adult affects suicidal ideation, plans and attempts. Therefore, it is necessary to identify atopic patients who have suicidal thoughts and plans and develop an intervention program to prevent and manage suicide in young adult.

Background : Atopic Dermatitis is a chronic and recurrent skin disease. it is characterized as itch-scratch cycle and topical or systemic use of corticosteroids is required in western medicine. Though its effects on major symptoms are impressive, these treatments are prone to several side effects and tend to recur after months or years. So potential treatments have been actively studied in Estern medicine, especially Sasang constitutional therapy, which has fewer side effects. Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Sasang constitutional therapy on treating severe adult Atopic Dermatitis and preventing its recurrent symptoms. Methods : fifteen patients who had severe adult Atopic Dermatitis attended treatment of Sasang constitutional therapy and were followed up for one year. An oriental internal specialist first isolated Sasang constitution and a distinctive body type. Grading of Atopic dermatitis was measured by the guidelines offered by Rajka G. and Langeland T. Results : After treatment with Sasang constitutional therapy, the patients symptoms were improved and the mean Rajka and Langeland score reduced significantly from $7.73{\pm}0.79\;to\;3.4{\pm}10.91$. During the follow-up period of one year, the mean Rajka and Langeland score was $2.72{\pm}2.06$ which was lower than last treatment. Conclusions : The results of this study support Sasang constitutional therapy as an effective therapy for severe adult Atopic Dermatitis. Follow up data suggest that this Eastern medical approach is of greater clinical value than the western medical approach in the long term.

Objectives The purpose of this case study is to report that a Soeumin patient diagnosed as adult atopic dermatitis was treated with Sipyimigwanjung-tang and then his symptoms improved. Methods We diagnosed the patient as Soeumin Greater Yin Pattern based on his nature & emotion, physical characteristics, symptoms. So we treated him with Sipyimigwanjung-tang and used Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), SCORAD(Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis) index and pictures of the affected part for the assessment. Results & Conclusions After treatment, his SCORAD index results significantly decreased from 76.3 to 41.8, VAS of itching decreased from 10 to 4 and the patient's subjective symptom and general condition considerably improved. This case study describe the effectiveness of Sipyimigwanjung-tang on Soeumin adult atopic dermatitis symptoms.

1. Objectives: The purpose of this case study is to evaluate the effects of Sasang constitutional therapy and treatment of an adult atopic dermatitis patient, who was diagnosed Soyangin, Interior febrile disease induced from the stomach affected by heat(少陽人 胃受熱裏熱病). 2. Methods: The adult Atopic Dermatitis patient was diagnosed Soyangin, Interior febrile disease induced from the stomach affected by heat(少陽人 胃受熱裏熱病) which was based on his Nature & Emotion(性情), physical characteristics, symptoms. He was medicated with Prescriptions of Soyangin. 3. Results and Conclusions: The clinical evaluation was made by SCORAD index, Total eosinophil count and Total IgE. After treatment, his SCORAD results significantly decreased from 88.4 to 21.9, Total eosinophil count decreased from 1320 to 120 and Total IgE also decreased from 1406.6 to 897.3. And the patient's subjective symptom and gerneral condition considerably improved after treatment. This case study describe the effectiveness on adult Atopic Aermatitis symptom by using Prescriptions of Soyangin.

Objectives: This study is to report two cases of adult atopic dermatitis improved by Osuyu-tang. Methods: Osuyu-tang was prescribed to two adult atopic dermatitis patients. The patients took Osuyu-tang 3 times a day for 45 days and 50 days, respectively. Results: In case 1 who complained of redness, erythema, edema, exudation, dryness, erosion, lichenification, scaly, and pruritus, skin symptoms improved from 15 to 2, and pruritus also improved from NRS 8 to 2. In case 2 who complained of redness-centered skin symptoms, skin symptoms improved from 15 to 1, and pruritus also improved from NRS 9 to 1. Conclusions: When Osuyu-tang was prescribed to two patients with adult atopic dermatitis, significant improvement was observed. It is thought that Osyyu-tang can be used as the treatment of other similar diseases in the future.

Objetives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Oryeong-san on adult whole-body atopic dermatitis. Methods : We treated a 21-year-old male patient who have adult whole-body atopic dermatitis by Korean medicine. This treatment was enforced from 2019.5.25 to 2019.6.29. And we have confirmed the improvement of itching, rashes and oozing. We recorded photos that includes change of symptoms. Results : After the treatments was done, the grade of VAS and SCORAD was decreased. The VAS grade was decreased from grade 8 to grade 2. The SCORAD score was decreased from 72.1 to 52.1. And itching, rashes, oozing were clearly decreased. Conclusions : Oryeong-san has effect on decreasing itching, rashes and oozing. Also, sleeping time reduced due to itchness was normalized. Thus, It is able that Oryeong-san works on skin desease like atopic dermatitis.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report 3 cases of Korean medical treatment on adult atopic dermatitis. Methods : Three patients with adult atopic dermatitits were treated with herbal medicine (Soyo-san hap Samul-tang), acupuncture, and moxibustion. Psychosomatic symptoms were considered the main criteria for treatment. The effects of treatment were evaluated through photographs of the lesions, using EASI and DLQI scores. Results : After treatment, EASI and DLQI scores on three atopic dermatitis patients improved significantly. Conclusions : This clinical case study has demonstrated that Korean medicine may be an effective option for treating adult atopic dermatitis. In addition, considering psychosomatic symptoms when treating atopic dermatitis may also lead to effective treatment.

In this study, we investigated the therapeutic potential of Cinnamomum camphora leaves on allergic skin inflammation such as atopic dermatitis. We evaluated the effects of C. camphora leaves on human adult low-calcium high-temperature keratinocytes and atopic dermatitis mice. C. camphora leaves inhibited Macrophage-derived chemokine (an inflammatory chemokine) production in $interferon-{\gamma}$ (10 ng/mL) stimulated Human adult low-calcium high-temperature keratinocytes in a dose dependent manner. C. camphora leaves suppressed the phosphorylation of janus kinase signal transducer and activator of transcription 1. C. camphora leaves also suppressed the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2, a central signaling molecule in the inflammation process. These results suggest that C. camphora leaves exhibits anti-inflammatory effect via the phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2. To study the advanced effects of C. camphora leaves on atopic dermatitis, we induced experimental atopic dermatitis in mice by applying 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene. The group treated with C. camphora leaves (100 mg/kg) showed remarkable improvement of atopic dermatitis symptoms: reduced serum immunoglobulin E levels, smaller lymph nodes with reduced thickness and length, decreased ear edema, and reduced levels of inflammatory cell infiltration in the ears. Interestingly, the effects of C. camphora leaves on atopic dermatitis symptoms were stronger than those of hydrocort cream, a positive control. Taken together, C. camphora leaves showed alleviating effects on the inflammatory chemokine production in vitro and atopic dermatitis symptoms in vivo. These results suggest that C. camphora leaves help in the treatment of allergic inflammation such as atopic dermatitis.

패혈증이 동반된 아토피피부염 환자를 19일간의 입원치료기간동안 한약치료와 항생제치료를 병행하여 치료하였다. 향후 적절한 감염 관리가 동반된다면, 2차 감염이 병발된 아토피피부염을 적극적으로 치료할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
