  • Genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are two excellent approaches to multimodal optimization problems. However, slow convergence or premature convergence readily occurs because of inappropriate and inflexible evolution. In this paper, a novel optimization algorithm with a flexible grid optimization (FGO) is suggested to provide adaptive trade-off between exploration and exploitation according to the specific objective function. Meanwhile, a uniform agents array with adaptive scale is distributed on the gird to speed up the calculation. In addition, a dominance centroid and a fitness center are proposed to efficiently determine the potential guides when the population size varies dynamically. Two types of subregion division strategies are designed to enhance evolutionary diversity and convergence, respectively. By examining the performance on four benchmark functions, FGO is found to be competitive with or even superior to several other popular algorithms in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency, tending to reach the global optimum earlier. Moreover, FGO is evaluated by applying it to a parameter decision in a least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) to verify its practical competence.

  • In enterprise environments, hybrid storage typically utilizes SSDs over disk-based RAID. Typically, SSDs over RAID are used as the data cache. Recently, the LeavO caching scheme was introduced to reduce the parity update overhead of the underlying RAID. In this paper, we combine the data caching and LeavO caching schemes and derive cost models of the combined cache to determine the optimal data and LeavO cache sizes. We also propose the Adaptive Combined Cache that dynamically adjusts the data cache and LeavO cache sizes for evolving workloads. Experimental results show that the performance of the Adaptive Combined Cache is significantly superior to that of the conventional data caching scheme and is comparable with that of the off-line optimal scheme.

  • The wavefront printer records a volume-reflection hologram as a two-dimensional array of elemental holograms from computer-generated holograms (CGHs) displayed on a spatial light modulator (SLM). The wavefront coming from the object is extracted by filtering in the spatial-frequency domain. This paper presents a method to improve color reproduction in a wavefront printer with spatial division of exposures at primary colors, by adaptive partitioning of the SLM in accordance with the color content encoded in the input CGHs, and by the controllable change of exposure times for the recording of primary colors. The method is verified with a color wavefront printer with demagnification of the object beam. The quality of reconstruction achieved by the proposed method proves its efficiency in eliminating the stripe artifacts that are superimposed on reconstructed images in conventional mosaic recording.

  • The objective of this paper is to present an adaptive algorithm for computing the weight vector which provides a beam pattern having its maximum gain along the direction of the mobile target signal source in the presence of interfering signals within a cell. The conjugate gradient method (CGM) is modified in such a way that the suboptimal weight vector is produced with the computational load of O(16N), which has been found to be small enough for the real-time processing of signals in most land mobile communications with the digital signal processor (DSP) off the shelf, where N denotes the number of antenna elements of the array. The adaptive procedure proposed in this paper is applied to code division multiple access (CDMA) mobile communication system to show its excellent performance in terms of signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR), bit error rate (BER), and capacity, which are enhanced by about 7 dB, ${\frac{1}{100}}$ times, and 7 times, respectively, when the number of antenna elements is 6 and the processing gain is 20 dB.

  • In this paper, an analytical method and a difference approximation method to calculate the gradient of an objective function have been applied to the directivity optimization in an adaptive ultrasonic transducer which is combined with a point source array and an optimization algorithm (DFP method). To compare these two methods, quasi-ideal .beam with a beam width and direction specified are chosen as the desired directivity. As the numerical results, the difference approximation method shows better suppressive capacity of side lobe level, good stability in the convergence processing, faster convergence speed and excellent adaptability compared with the analytical method.

  • Identification of communication channels is a problem of important current theoretical and practical concerns. Recently proposed solutions for this problem exploit the diversity induced by antenna array or time oversampling. The method resorts to an adaptive filter with a linear constraint. In this paper, an approach is proposed that is based on decomposition. Indeed, the eigenvector corresponding to the minimum eigenvalue of the covariance matrix of the received signals contains the channel impulse response. And we present an adaptive algorithm to solve this problem. Proposed technique shows the better performance than one of existing algorithms.

  • Adaptive arrays have been proposed as an effective means of mitigating Multiple Access Interference (MAI) and improving the performance of existing and future wireless communication systems. In this paper, we apply the analytical method proposed to analyse the theoretical Mean Bit Error Rate (BER) of an uncoded IS-95 based CDMA system with an array antenna at the BS in a Ricean fading environment. We present a modified expression for the Signal to Interference plus Noise (SINR) ratio as a function of the number of users, number of antennas and noise levels. We also verify the analytical results by means of simulations by considering different user and channel scenarios.

  • Nowadays, networked computer systems play an increasingly important role in our society and its economy. They have become the targets of a wide array of malicious attacks that invariably turn into actual intrusions. This is the reason computer security has become an essential concern for network administrators. Recently, a number of Detection/Prevention System schemes have been proposed based on various technologies. However, the techniques, which have been applied in many systems, are useful only for the existing patterns of intrusion. Therefore, probe detection has become a major security protection technology to detection potential attacks. Probe detection needs to take into account a variety of factors ant the relationship between the various factors to reduce false negative & positive error. It is necessary to develop new technology of probe detection that can find new pattern of probe. In this paper, we propose an hybrid probe detection using Fuzzy Cognitive Map(FCM) and Self Adaptive Module(SAM) in dynamic environment such as Cloud and IoT. Also, in order to verify the proposed method, experiments about measuring detection rate in dynamic environments and possibility of countermeasure against intrusion were performed. From experimental results, decrease of false detection and the possibilities of countermeasures against intrusions were confirmed.

  • Of all the rapid tooling (RT) methods currently available, thick-layer laminated tooling is the most suitable for large-scale, low-cost dies and molds. Currently, the determination of a lamina's contour or profile and the associated slicing algorithms are based on existing rapid prototyping (RP) data manipulation technology. This paper presents a new adaptive slicing algorithm developed exclusively for profiled edge laminae (PEL) tooling PEL tooling is a thick-layer RT technique that involves the assembly of an array of laminae, whose top edges are simultaneously profiled and beveled using a line-of-sight cutting method based on a CAD model of the intended tool surface. The cutting profiles are based on the intersection curve obtained directly from the CAD model to ensure geometrical accuracy. The slicing algorithm determines the lamina thicknesses that minimize the dimensional error using a new tool shape error index. At the same time, the algorithm considers the available lamination thicknesses and desired lamina interface locations. We demonstrate the new slicing algorithm by developing a simple industrial PEL tool based on a CAD part shape.

  • The filtering ability of $J_0$ and $J_1$ digital linear filters is compared by means of an adaptive linear filter. Any $J_0$ domain Hankel transform integral can be transformed mathematically into its corresponding $J_1$ domain integral. The apparent resistivities for any electrode configuration employed in resistivity soundings can be evaluated with a single $J_1$ filter. The $J_1$ filter usually has similar accuracy to, but shorter length than, the corresponding $J_0$ filter. The domain transformation from $J_0$ to $J_1$ enables us to use effective expressions of apparent resistivity, involving $J_1$ alone, not only for Schlumberger but also for dipole-dipole array.
