  • Objective To derive further studies evaluating the effectiveness of Cultured Wild Ginseng Pharmacopuncture (CWGP) Therapy on squamous cell carcinoma as a first line. Methods Three cycles (4 weeks/cycle) of CWGP were administered as a dosage of 10 ml per day. Patient was diagnosed with stage IIIB squamous cell carcinoma and refused all therapy of conventional medicine because of old age and cardiac invasion of tumor. Intensive treatment of CWGP for 3 cycles was done on the patient. Computed Topography (CT) was performed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. Results After the intravenous infusion of 2 cycles of CWGP, chest CT revealed the mass size and pleural invasion sustained stable disease. After the point injection of 1 cycle of CWGP, chest CT revealed progressive disease. The disease free survival rate was 1 month. Conclusion This case may provide us the possibility that CWGP offers potential benefits for patients with squamous cell lung carcinoma. But this is a single case study and further case-series research should be compensated.

Methods : A 47-year-old woman who was diagnosed as metastatic colorectal cancer on Oct 2011 was concurrently treated with traditional Korean therapy (TKT) and XELOX (capecitabine plus oxaliplatin) for 7 months. TKT includes intravenous CWGP, Soram immuno-pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine. The effectiveness of therapies was evaluated with computed tomography and tumor marker levels such as carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9). And pain on the lateral abdomen was recorded with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Results : The tumor mass size of metastatic liver was decreased from 10 cm to 4.3 cm. The tumor marker levels such as CEA and CA19-9 are also decreased. From these results, this case report suggests that the TKT with palliative chemotherapy may be a useful method to treat unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer.

  • Reflux esophagitis is a common disease in developed nations. We describe the case of a female patient with endoscopic reflux esophagitis complicated by gastric dysmotility. Both electrogastrography and enterotachography were performed to detect gastric myoelectrical activity and pyloric sphincter function and evaluate gastric motility. The patient was treated only with herbal medications and general acupuncture, with electrical stimulation of the ST.36 (Zusanli) point, in addition to moxibustion therapy. After each primary and secondary treatment, the therapeutic effect was immediately evaluated. At the final follow-up 5 mon after the end of the secondary treatment, the patient’s general condition was assessed, in addition to the mucosa of the esophagus. At follow up, all the patients’ symptoms had disappeared, and the mucosa of the esophagus had returned to normal. We attributed these therapeutic effects to improved gastric dysmotility. To confirm the usefulness of this treatment method, studies of larger numbers of patients with reflux esophagitis treated with Korean traditional medicine are needed.

Methods We searched th following nine online databases without language restriction (MEDLINE/PubMed, Cochrane library, Ebscohost, CNKI, RISS, NDSL, KMBASE, and KISS) to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that used CMT in the treatment of rotator cuff disorder. The methodological quality of each RCT was assessed using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Results Four RCTs were included. in the meta-analysis. CMT resulted in a significant reduction in symptoms in these trials. However, there was a high risk of bias in the RCTs. Conclusions We reviewed RCTs that studied the effects of CMT for rotator cuff disorder. While the studies indicate that CMT has favorable effects on rotator cuff disorder. But the risk of bias for most of the studies was high. Therefore, high-quality studies are required to make further conclusions.
