  • This research was conducted to assess the effects of an engineering education accreditation program devised by the University of Seoul on higher education outcomes by comparing and analyzing the evaluation results of engineering accredited students (31) and those who are not accredited (47) with the OECD AHELO (Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes) in 2013. The AHELO assessment tool consisted of 25 multiple-choice questions which evaluated generic skill-learning outcomes, also using contextual surveys to establish the students' backgrounds. The results were evaluated statistically. In the results from the multiple-choice exam for generic skill learning outcomes, accredited students scored 1.35 points higher than non-accredited students. Secondly, according to the contextual survey related to students' university education experience, such as lectures, seminars, group projects, and online tutoring, it was found that accredited students were provided more activities in seminars and group projects. Moreover, for class activities, more of these were provided to accredited students, especially in the areas of assortment-structuralization and teamwork-based activities. Thirdly, according to the contextual survey results related to participation in class, specifically regarding asking questions and participating in discussions, interacting with the professor, and opportunities for study time, there were no recognizable differences between accredited and non-accredited students, However, while accredited students at least had opportunities to gain experience in most areas, there were some areas for which education resources were not provided to non-accredited students. Therefore, for the University of Seoul, our results imply that accredited students may show better performance in the areas of academic accomplishment and in their educational environment as compared to non-accredited students. These results demonstrate that the engineering education accreditation program positively contributes to employment competitiveness while also improving the necessary global standards of higher education outcomes.

  • Since the ABEEK has been launched in 2000, many educational programs have been accredited by the ABEEK so far, and lots of programs nationwide are under preparation for the accreditation. However, most of institutes are suffering from the new accreditation system that requires some novel concepts of engineering education, so called, outcomes-based and demand-driven education processes. In this paper, the effective managerial schemes obtained from several years experiences of an accredited program are summarized. Especially, specific contents of the 7 accreditation criteria those need to be periodically documented are recommended and the effective processes for each item are described in detail.

  • The present study aims to demonstrate that it is possible to objectively evaluate the competency (referred to as graduate attributes or program outcomes) of graduates of engineering education programs. To strengthen the link between engineering education accreditation and the qualification/certification system of engineering professionals, referred to as K-Engineering Professional (K-EP), individually assuring the quality of accredited graduates using multiple-choice test as main assessment tool is proposed. Test questions related to the basic vocational skills of NCS are developed for seven of the 10 program outcomes of the ABEEK KEC2015. The three program outcomes, PO1, PO3, and PO5, which need to fully accommodate the characteristics of each disciplinary field, are excluded. A pilot test involving graduates of eight accredited programs is conducted. Applying on Rasch model based on Item Response Theory (IRT), the item difficulty, fit and discrimination of multiple choice test are demonstrated. The pilot study strongly suggests that individual competency evaluation is possible at a certain level for seven program outcomes tested. For PO1, PO3, and PO5, however, questions that address the characteristics of each disciplinary field need to be devised. If a suitable pool of questions is built, it can be used as a program outcomes assessment tool by the accredited programs.

  • The 'Program outcomes and assessment' is an important criterion evaluating of engineering education in accreditation of engineering education. ABEEK prescribes program outcomes which are the basic capabilities in the application of the fundamental knowledge and practical tools of the engineering field. Also ABEEK asks to prove that all programs are constructed a proper educational curriculum and are satisfied program outcomes and CQI. Therefore program outcomes must satisfy both two key points. First, as a quality control aspect, engineering programs must prove that graduates of accredited programs can perform twelve capabilities. Second, as a continuous quality improvement aspect, accredited programs have to upgrade a level of engineering educational quality. Consequently the purpose of study is to introduce a new model for CQI and QC systems, implementing strategies as an actualizing of program outcomes.

  • An engineering educational survey for graduating seniors had been conducted in Myong Ji university to improve engineering program objectives, outcomes and curriculums. The collected data have been analyzed statistically based on 11 outcomes of the ABEEK accredited criteria to know how much students are satisfied with the current engineering education. The analysis results show that the current engineering educational objectives need to be modified to satisfy the ABEEK accredited criteria and engineering curriculum restructuring is necessary to include more design courses.

  • The purpose of this paper is to improve the curriculum efficiently and to raise the level of students's satisfaction by studying the correlation between MSC and major courses. For this, we compared the student's grades for those courses. Furthermore the level of satisfaction of the MSC subjects was surveyed. We found that one of dissatisfactions was due to the student's low recognition about the Accredited Program. So efforts to raise the student's satisfaction abouts the program should be done continuously and an in-depth study about MSC and major courses is necessary instead of just offering the required subjects.

  • Pharmacy residency program in Korea was first implemented in Seoul National University Hospital in 1983 to train hospital pharmacists regarding theories and practice which were not appropriately educated in the colleges of pharmacy. There are currently seven hospitals operating the program in Korea, and all of those are located in Metropolitan Seoul area. Most hospitals administer examination and interview to select competent pharmacists while some other hospitals select those based on paperwork and interview tests. Although the program contents are mostly similar, some variation were identified between the programs. Title conferred after accomplishment of the program has not been officially accredited by educational authority. In June of 2008, Korean Society of Health-System Pharmacists promulgated an internal regulation as an attempt to standardize the program contents and to encourage efficient management of the program. Since the regulation has now been effective, it is expected that the regulation may help clinical pharmacy education in Korea move toward advanced level.

  • Recently, the intercultural approach, which aims to resolve social conflicts in multicultural societies through cultural encounters and dialogue, has been actively discussed. Intercultural education aims to foster smooth relationships and improve communication skills through interactions among various cultural groups. Analysis of previous studies has revealed the need for research on intercultural civic education programs targeted at adults. Therefore, this study was designed to develop an intercultural citizenship education program and to analyze its effects. For the study, previous research on interculturalism, intercultural citizenship education, and intercultural citizenship education programs was comprehensively analyzed. The developed intercultural citizenship education program was categorized into five major themes: understanding oneself and others, racism and hate speech, overcoming conflict and discrimination, breaking away from prejudice and stereotypes, and the future of our country. Subsequently, the program was implemented with 64 total second-year middle school students, 37 in the experimental group, and 27 in the control group, at an accredited lifelong educational institution in M City, South Jeolla Province. To analyze the effects of the education, an intercultural competency scale was used. The results showed that the intercultural citizenship education program for adult students was effective in conflict management, respect, communication, and reflection competencies, all at a statistically significant level. Finally, the authors compared the study results with previous research and discussed the findings. Findings indicated the necessity of enhancing multicultural citizenship awareness among adults and expanding teacher training in intercultural education. The program effectively improved intercultural competence among adult students, highlighting the importance of tailored educational content and active participation in discussions. Future research should ensure a balanced gender ratio among participants.
