The effect of passive film on corrosion of metals and alloys in a static corrosive environment has been studied by many researchers and is well known, however few studies have been conducted on the electrochemical measurement of metals and alloys during cavitation corrosion conditions, and there are no test standards for electrochemical measurements 'During cavitation' conditions. This study used commercially additive manufactured(AM) pure titanium in tests of anodic polarization, corrosion potential measurements, AC impedance measurements, and repassivation. Tests were performed in 3.5% NaCl solution under three conditions, 'No cavitation', 'After cavitation', and 'During cavitation' condition. When cavitation corrosion occurred, the passive current density was greatly increased, the corrosion potential largely lowered, and the passive film revealed a small polarization resistance. The current fluctuation by the passivation and repassivation phenomena was measured first, and this behavior was repeatedly generated at a very high speed. The electrochemical corrosion mechanism that occurred during cavitation corrosion was based on result of the electrochemical properties 'No cavitation', 'After cavitation', and 'During cavitation' conditions.
Surface modification techniques are known to improve SCC by adding large compressive residual stresses to metal surfaces. This surface modification technology is attracting attention because it is an economical and practical technology compared to the maintenance method of existing nuclear power plants. Surface modification techniques include laser, water jet and ultrasonic peening, pinning and ultrasonic Nano-crystal surface modification (UNSM). The focus of this study was on the effect of ultrasonic amplitude in UNSM treatment on the corrosion properties of Alloy 600. A microstructure analysis was conducted using an optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD). A cyclic polarization test and AC-impedance measurement were both used to analyze the corrosion properties. UNSM treatment influences the corrosion resistance of Alloy 600 depending on its amplitude. Below the critical amplitude value, the pitting corrosion properties are improved by grain refinement and compressive residual stress, but above the critical amplitude value, crevices are formed by the formation of overlapped waves. These crevices act as corrosion initiators, reducing pitting corrosion resistance.
Many ancient and historical artifacts were made by copper and its alloys. In the case of outdoor exposure artifacts, the surface could be suffered from corrosion and tarnish by the reaction with its environment. In order to preserve the artifacts, surface treatment would be needed and BTA coating has been usually applied to tin-bronze. This paper dealt with the evaluation of the properties of BTA coated film using a linear polarization method and AC impedance measurement. On the base of corrosion rate and film resistance for the specimen formed by coating process, optimum coating conditions are as follows; 3 cycles brushing or 3 cycles spraying coatings for natural dried process and 1 cycle brushing coating or 5 cycles spraying coating for hot-air dried process.

The mobile device industry demands much higher levels of integration and lower costs coupled with a growing awareness of the complete system's configuration. A subsystem module package is similar to a board-level circuit that integrates a system function in a package beyond a System-in-Package (SiP) design. It is an advanced IC packaging solution to enhance the PDN and achieve a smaller form factor. Unlike a system-level design with a decoupling capacitor, a subsystem module package system needs to redefine the role of the capacitor and its configuration for PDN performance. Specifically, the design of package's form factor should include careful consideration of optimal PDN performance and the number of components, which need to define the decoupling capacitor's value and the placement strategy for a low impedance profile with associated cost benefits. This paper will focus on both the static case that addresses the voltage (IR) drop and AC analysis in the frequency domain with three specific topics. First, it will highlight the role of simulation in the subsystem module design for the PDN. Second, it will compare the performance of double-sided component placement (DSCP) motherboards with the subsystem module package and then prove the advantage of the subsystem module package. Finally, it will introduce three-terminal decoupling capacitor (decap) configurations of capacitor size, count and value for the subsystem module package to determine the optimum performance and package density based on the cost-effective model.
Owing to the rising concern of global warming, lithium-ion batteries have gained immense attention over the past few years for the development of highly efficient electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems. In this study, alpha-phase VOPO4·2H2O with nanosheet morphology was prepared via a facile hydrothermal method for application in high-performance lithium-ion batteries. The X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses indicated that the obtained sample had an alpha-2 (αII) phase, and the nanosheet morphology of the sample was confirmed using SEM. The lithium-ion battery with VOPO4·2H2O as the anode exhibited excellent long-term cycle life and a high capacity of 256.7 mAh g-1 at room temperature. Prelithiation effectively improved the specific capacity of pristine VOPO4·2H2O. The underlying electrochemical mechanisms were investigated by carrying out AC impedance, rate capability, and other instrumental analyses.

A series of novel PBI/SrTiO3 nanocomposite membranes composed of polybenzimidazole (PBI) and strontium titanate (SrTiO3) with a perovskite structure were fabricated with various concentrations of SrTiO3 through a solution casting method. Various characterization techniques such as proton nuclear magnetic resonance, thermogravimetric analysis, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and AC impedance spectroscopy were used to investigate the chemical structure, thermal, phosphate absorption and morphological properties, and proton conductivity of the fabricated nanocomposite membranes. The optimized PBI/SrTiO3-8 polymer nanocomposite membrane containing 8wt% of SrTiO3 showed a higher proton conductivity of 7.95 × 10-2 S/cm at 160℃ compared to other nanocomposite membranes. The PBI/SrTiO3-8 composite membrane also showed higher thermal stability compared to pristine PBI. In addition, the roughness change of the polymer composite membrane was also investigated by AFM. Based on these results, nanocomposite membranes based on perovskite structures are expected to be considered as potential candidates for high-temperature PEM fuel cell applications.
HTS transformers which have been developed until now had only fundamental structures. Among the auxiliary functions of conventional transformers, voltage regulating is the most important one. For the voltage regulation, conventional transformers are equipped with on load tap changers (OLTCS). In this paper, we describe the possibility of the HTS transformer with OLTC. For the case study, we designed a single phase 33 MVA HTS transformer with OLTC. It is one of three individual HTS transformers which composes a 3 phase, 100 MVA transformer. It is expected to substitute for a 3 phase, 60 MVA conventional transformer in Korea. The parameters of an HTS transformer are varied due to the gap length between primary and secondary windings. The length was decided for the transformer to have the impedance of 12 %. Its size was limited to the one of the conventional transformer. The characteristics of the HTS transformer were analyzed in both case of having OLTC and not.

Composite air electrodes of 50/50 vol% LSM- YSZ where LSM =$\textrm{La}_{1-x}\textrm{Sr}_{x}\textrm{MnO}_{3}$(0$\leq$x$\leq$0.5) were prepared by colloidal deposition technique. The electrodes were then examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and studied by ac impedance spectroscopy in order to improve the performance of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Reproducible impedance spectra were confirmed by using the improved cell, consisting of LSM- YSZ/YSZ/LSM-YSZ. These spectra were a strong function of operating temperature and the stable conditions for the cells were typically reached at $900^{\circ}C$. The typical spectra measured for an air//air cell at $900^{\circ}C$ were composed of two arcs. Addition of YSZ to the LSM electrode led to a pronounced decrease in cathodic resistivity of LSM-YSZ composite electrodes. Polishing the electrolyte surface to eliminate the influences of surface impurities could further reduce cathode resistivity. The cathodic resistivity of the LSM-YSZ electrodes with catalytic interlayer (Ni or Sr) was much smaller than that of LSM-YSZ electrodes without catalytic interlayer. In addition, the cathodic resistivity of the LSM-YSZ electrodes was a strong function of composition of electrode materials, the electrolyte geometry, and applied current.
Anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was investigated to increase the cell power density at intermediate temperature through control of the cathode structure. The anode-supported SOFC cell were fabricated by wet process, in which the electrolyte of $8mol\%\;Y_2O_3-stabilized\;ZrO_2 (YSZ)$ was coated on the surface of anode support of Ni/YSA and then the cathode was coated. The cathode has two- or three- layered structure composed of $(La_{0.85}Sr_{0.15})_{0.9}MnO_{3-x}(LSM),\;LSM/YS$ composite (LY), and $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_3{LSCF)$ with different thickness. Their single cells with different cathode structures were characterized by measuring the cell performance and ac impedance in the temperature range of 600 to $800^{\circ}C$ in humidified hydrogen with $3\%$ water and air. The cell with $LY\;9{\mu}m/LSM\;9{\mu}m/LSCF\;17{\mu}m$ showed best performance of $590mW/cm^2$, which was attributed to low polarization resistance due to LY and to low interfacial resistance due to LSCF.
Electrode characteristics were studied in the interface between sample solutions and $K^+$ ion selective PVC membrane electrodes containing neutral carriers, dibenzo-18-crown-6(D18Cr6) and valinomycin(Val). The effect of doping of base electrolytes, the chemical structure and the content of carrier, variation of plasticizer, membrane thickness, and concentration variation of sample solution on the response characteristics of electrode such as the measured Nernstian slope, the detection limit, the linear response range, and potentiometric selectivity coefficients, were studied. In order to synthesize the membrane D18Cr6 and Val as neutral carriers were used, and complex between the carrier and $K^+$ ions were used as active materials. PVC membrane electrodes were made of plasticizers (DBP, DOS, and DBS), the base electrolyte[potassium tetraphenylborate(KTPB)], and solvent(THF). The chemical structure of carrier D18Cr6 was best for electrode and ideal electrode characteristics were appeared especially in case of doping of TPB. The optimum carrier content was about 3.23 wt % in case of D18Cr6 and Val. DBP was best as a plasticizer. As membrane thickness decreased the electrode characteristics was improved. But its characteristics were lowered below the optimum membrane thickness because of the elution of carrier, deterioration of membrane strength, etc. In the case of D18Cr6, the selectivity coefficients by the mixed solution method for the $K^+$ ion were in the order of $NH_4{^+}>Ca^{2+}>Mg^{2+}>Na^+$.
