호주의 공학기사 양성과정(전문학사, 고급 디플로마)의 성격과 운영 비교 (Comparison of Characteristic and Implementation of Engineers Associate Qualifications(Associate degree and Advanced diploma) in Australia)

  • This paper investigates the characteristics and implementation of associate degree and advanced diploma in Australia, which belong to level 6 in AQF, to gain meaningful implications for engineering associate education in Korea. In Australian Qualification Framework and Engineers Australia's national generic competency standards are regarded as common benchmark for both qualifications. Training packages for advanced diploma were changed according to the subject/and national benchmark. and were developed to meet the needs of technical workers and para-professionals in the engineering field. The author recommends three suggestions from the findings - leadership of ABEEK for making benchmark for associate degree program in engineering in Korea, in which competency-based curriculum is currently being adopted by policy. development of outcomes descriptor of qualification and educational responsibilities.

학생 포트폴리오 경진대회 심사를 위한 평가준거 개발 사례연구 (Case Study of Developing Evaluation Criteria for Students' Portfolios)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation criteria for students' portfolios in an annual intramural contest. To accomplish the purpose, evaluation categories and their questions were developed after previous literature, ABEEK's evaluation guidelines, and eight Universities' evaluation forms were analyzed. Furthermore, experts' validity tests were completed by showing that the evaluation criteria form was validated with a mean score of 4.24. Also, the inter-rater reliability was turned out with a high score of .86. The interview results by evaluators of students' portfolios made the final version of evaluation criteria form include five evaluation criteria categories and their allotted score portions: overall organization(40), personal information(15), certificates and awards(5), curriculum(15), and extra-curriculum(15). The importance of overall organization was discussed from the perspectives of teachers as well as students.

소프트스킬 함양교육 사례 (A Case Study of Soft-Skill Education)

  • The skill that meets the intellectual and technical requirements in workplace is called hard skill. The counter part of it is 'softskills' which enhances an individual's interactions, job performance and career prospects. It becomes more necessary skill as society changes. In this paper we first show the demand for the softskill improvement education for engineering major students. Then we introduce a 'softskill improvement education' program developed by the "Center for innovative engineering education" in a University. The contents of the program are chosen by the needs of society, companies that hire our students, ABEEK educational objectives and consulting from professors. To improve the skills we used various activities as tools which are mentioned and introduced. The evaluation of the program results are discussed. We suggest some ways to improve the program.

  • This paper explores and proposes the evaluation criteria of design projects in the entry-level design course. In the entry-level engineering design course the students proceeds various design projects to understand the concept of engineering design process and to develop the creativity. The evaluation criteria of design projects is very important component because the outcome of students in the engineering design course are effected from the evaluation criteria that enforces the students to focus on doing their task. According to this case study the evaluation criteria can be good solution to evaluate the design projects. By the outcome standard of ABEEK on the entry-level engineering design course the evaluation criteria was selected with the results of design projects such as design plan, report, handicrafts, objectives.

  • 한국공학교육인증원(ABEEK)에서는 공학 인증의 중요한 기준의 하나로 학습 성과(outcomes)를 제시하고 있다. 본 연구는 12가지 학습 성과에 대한 만족도를 조사하여 학습 성과를 달성하기 위한 공과대학의 교육 과정의 개선 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 연구 결과에 따르면 74% 이상의 학생들이 만족하고 있었고, 학습 성과를 달성하기 위해서는 설계 및 교양 교육이 더욱 강화되어야 한다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 학습 성과를 기초로 한 공학교육은 반드시 한국공학교육인증원의 인증을 위해서 그 필요성이 존재하는 것은 아니다. 실제 공학 교육에서 교육의 개선과 발전을 위한 매우 유용하고 효과적인 방법임을 부인할 수 없으며 세계적 교육의 대세인 것이다. 본 연구는 학습 성과를 달성하기위한 일반적인 교육 방법과 "평생학습"에 대한 예를 제시하고자 하였다. 학습 성과를 달성하기 위한 순서와 구성요소, 또 교육의 새로운 패러다임인 CQI(continuous quality improvement)를 달성하기위한 소위 "close-the-loop"의 예도 제시하였다.

  • The purpose of this work is to provide systematic lecture materials for instructers who search for the effective teaching of applied mechanics of materials course with respect to lecture contents, teaching methods, and itemized course evaluations according to each class learning objective. For this. the evolution of teaching contents since 2010 until 2014 are briefly depicted and then most recent course learning objectives, lecture contents, and evaluation schemes are presented in detail. The results of this study may be used as base line data for the lecturers who teach similar courses and for the evaluation of program outcomes in ABEEK scheme through course-embedded assessment.

공학교육인증을 위한 프로그램 레벨의 CQI 구현 방안 (A Method Enabling Program-Level CQI for Accreditation of Engineering Education)

  • Accreditation of engineering education as initiated by Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) centers around three key issues: program outcomes, assessment/evaluation thereof, and continuous quality improvement (CQI). Most engineering departments, however, are neither adequately familiar with nor well prepared for the issues, especially CQI. The CQI in almost all departments seems to be overly confined in individual courses and the final capstone design courses for seniors; there is no evidence that CQI is not limited to the course level but flows through all courses in the curriculum. This paper presents a sound and viable framework for CQI implementation in which course-level CQI is integrated into the department/program-level CQI.

비판적 사고를 활용한 공학 설계 교육 (Engineering design education utilizing critical thinking)

  • ABEEK's professional liberal arts education reflecting critical thinking, has been well received by professors and students in the engineering discipline. Also, the demand for further utilization of critical thinking within the engineering curriculum is increasing. To meet such demand, there is a need for experts in the area of critical thinking education and engineering education to come together and search for the most effective method in using critical thinking in engineering design education courses. In this paper, we were able to confirm, through specific application cases, that the problem-solving process of critical thinking can be effectively transferred to an engineering design process, and the elements and criteria of critical thinking can be used as a successful design tool. Also, we explore the possibility of further improving engineering education on the basis of critical thinking.

  • The aim of this paper is to explore various ways to utilize critical thinking in engineering education. To this end, this paper, in the light of the relationship between critical thinking and the program learning performance of ABEEK, reviews engineering design education, engineering ethics education, and engineering communication education, which are major areas where critical thinking can be utilized in engineering education. As a result, it was confirmed that critical thinking skills, especially the elements and criteria of critical thinking, can contribute to the creative problem-solving process in engineering design education, the rational decision-making process in engineering ethics education, and the effective communication process in engineering communication education.
