  • The early evaluation on strength of concrete is useful to achieve on quality control and improvement of properties of concrete. Especially, we could say that the confidence of construction is increased by the increase durability and safety building, due to early evaluation. In this study, was proposed to ultra-sonic pulse method as a early evaluation method for strength of concrete with main parameter, sush as W/C ratio and S/A ratio. The experiment results are summarized to follow as : $\circled1$ The ultra-sonic pulse was decreased as the increase of W/C ratio. $\circled2$ The maximum value for the ultra-sonic pulse velocity and compressive strength was presented in the case of 40% S/A ratio and these value was decreased as the change of S/A ratio over 40% $\circled1$ The relationship of the ultra-sonic pulse velocity and compressive strength on 28days according to the change of W/C and S/A ratio is to be: $F_{28} = -209193R^2 + 384417R - 1763441$(W/C Ratio) $F_{28} = 1726R^2 - 774R - 502 (S/A Ratio)

  • The aim of the current study is to identify the dimerization and decomposition kinetics of the F-$D_M$ type. The regeneration of F-VS from $F_iF_j-D_M$ or the reversibility of the dimerizations were investigated. The order of real rate constants of the dimerization('$K_D{^{ij}}$) would seem to be similar to that of rate constants of a dimerization($K_D{^{ij}}$) for VS dyes at a given pH because of the constancy of the equilibrium constants($K_a{^j}$-value). The reverse reactions of the $D_M$ types are appeared to occur in two steps, the deprotonation of ${\alpha}$-carbon of the $D_M$ types and disproportionation. The ratio of the decomposition of the $D_M$ type to F-Hy and F-VS appears to be related with the ratio of $K_i/K_j$. Similarities were also found among various other reactions, including homo- and mixed dimerization. VS dyes undergoing fast hydrolysis have difficulty in forming a dimer. The higher the reactivity with cellulose or hydroxide ion, the smaller the dimerization. The easiness of the dimerization was thus found to be inversely proportional to the rate of hydrolysis.

  • The dynamic characteristics of Control Element Drive Mechanism(CEDM) for Korea Standard Nuclear Power Plant are studied with the CEDM modeled as a secondary mass in a simplified two degree of freedom system, while the reactor vessel as a primary mass. The optimal .mu.-f curve is developed to reduce the response amplitudes of both primary and secondary masses. In order to improve a design it is proposed that the natural frequency ratio, f, should be converged to 0.93, the mass ratio, .mu., should not be reduced, and the result should be converged to the optimal .mu.-f curve. Optimal design for CEDM components has been carried out and the response amplitude ratios of reactor are reduced 10.5 - 19.7% while those of CEDM are reduced 6.3 - 3.4%.

  • The flow characteristics on the periodically arranged semi-circular ribs in a rectangular channel for turbulent flow have been investigated numerically. The aspect ratio of the rectangular channel was AR=5, the rib height to hydraulic diameter ratio was 0.07 and rib height to channel height ratio was e/H=0.117. The v2-f turbulence model and SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model were used to find the flow characteristics of near the wall which are suited for realistic phenomena. The numerical analysis results show turbulent flow characteristics and pressure drop at the near the wall as observed experimentally. The results predict that turbulent kinetic energy(k) is closely relative to the diffusion of recirculation flow, and v2-f turbulence model simulation results have a good agreement with experimental.

  • This work was conducted to investigate on the effect of urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin viscosity on plywood adhesion. The viscosity of UF resin was controlled either by adjusting the condensation reaction during its synthesis to obtain different target viscosities (100, 200 and 300 mPa.s) at two levels of formaldehyde/urea (F/U) mole ratios (1.0 and 1.2) or by adding different amounts (10, 20 and 30%) of wheat flour into the resins for the manufacture of plywood. When the viscosity of UF resin increased by the condensation reaction, the adhesion strength of plywood bonded with UF resin of 1.2 F/U mole ratio consistently increased, while those bonded with the 1.0 F/U mole ratio resin slightly decreased, suggesting a difference in the adhesion in plywood. However, the adhesion strength of plywood decreased as the viscosity increased by adding wheat flour, regardless of F/U mole ratio. The manipulation of UF resin viscosity by adjusting the condensation reaction was much more efficient than by adding wheat flour in improving the adhesion performance of plywood. These results indicated that a way of controlling the viscosity of UF resin adhesives has a great influence to their adhesion in plywood.

  • The temporal evolution of wake behind a circular cylinder oscillating rotationally with a relatively high forcing frequency has been investigated experimentally using a dynamic PIV technique. Experiments were carried out with varying the frequency ratio $F_R\;(=f_f/f_n)$ in the range from 0.0 (stationary) to 1.6 at oscillation amplitude of ${\theta}_A=30^{\circ}$ and Reynolds number of $Re=4.14{\times}10^3$. Depending on the forcing condition ($F_R$), the flow was divided into three regimes; non-lock-on ($F_R=0.4$), transition ($F_R=0.8$, 1.6) and lock-on regimes ($F_R=1.0$) with markedly different flow structure in the near-wake region behind the cylinder. When the frequency ratio was less than 1.0 ($F_R{\le}1.0$), the rotational oscillatory motion of the cylinder decreased the length of the vortex formation region and enhanced the mutual interaction between large-scale vortices across the wake centerline. The entrainment of ambient fluid seemed to play an important role in controlling the near-wake flow and shear-layer instability. However, the flow characteristics changed markedly beyond the lock-on flow regime ($F_R=1.0$) due to high-frequency forcing. At $F_R=1.6$, the mutual interactions between the vortices shed from both sides of the cylinder were not so strong. Thereby, the flow entrainment and momentum transfer into the wake center region were reduced. In addition, the size of the large-scale vortices decreased since the lateral extent of the wake was suppressed.

  • Three-way catalyst converter, cleaning up the exhaust gas contamination of SI engine, has the best efficiency when A/F ratio is near the stoichiometry . The feedback control using oxygen sensors in the exhaust manifold has limits caused by the system delays. So the accurate measurement of air flow rate to an engine is essential to control the fuel injection rate especially on transient condition like the rapid throttle opening and closing. To measure the rapid change of flow rates. the air flow meter for the engine requires quick response, flow reversal detection, and linearity . Tjhe proposed integration type air flow meter (IFM), composed of an ultrasonic flow meter with an integration circuit, has significantly improved the measurement accuracy of air mass inducted through the throttle body. The proposed control method estimated the air mass at the cylinder port using the measured air mass at the throttle . For the fuel dynamic model, the two constant fuel model is introduced . The control parameters from air and fuel dynamics are tuned to minimize the excursion of the air fuel ratio. As a result A/F ratio excursion can be reduced within 5% when throttle rapidly opens and closes at the various engine conditions.

  • This study investigates changes of bifurcation discharge ratio, flow velocity distributions and characteristics of separation zone due to variation of bifurcation angle by using TELEMAC-2D model. When the bifurcation angle is reduced from 90° to 45° without changing the boundary conditions, the bifurcation discharge ratio increased by 1.5 times from 0.523 to 0.785 because of increasing the radius of curvatures, the inertia force of the downstream flow, and the pressure gradient by the downstream boundary conditions. The bifurcation discharge ratio increases non-linearly whenever the bifurcation angle decreases by 15° intervals from 90° to 45° in flow with the upstream Froude number of 0.45 to 0.74. In flow with a maximum Froude number of 0.74, the rate of increase for bifurcation discharge ratio is 31.1% and the minimum value. When the Froude number is 0.58, the bifurcation discharge ratio is 0.7 or less, and the maximum rate of increase for that ratio is 53.5%. As the upstream Froude number decreases less than 0.58, the bifurcation discharge ratio exceeds 0.7, and the rate of increase decreases. When the upstream Froude number is 0.4 higher, the dimensionless width and length changing ratio of the separation zone are about 2.56 and 5.5 times higher than in 0.4 or less.

  • A study on the biological and chemical characteristics in the middle last Sea of Korea was carried out at 31 stations in October $11\~18$, 1995 on board the R/V Tam-Yang. The chlorophyll a concentration, new and regenerated production, and the vertical diffusion of nitrate from the thermocline structure were investigated. From the vertical distribution of chlorophyll a, subsurface maxima were observed near the thermorline at most stations including the frontal zone, except at the southern stations where the maximum chloropyll a concentration occurred at the surface, The nanophytoplankton was the most dominant fraction comprising $83.5\%$ of total phytoplankton cell numbers, but netphytoplankton were common at the southern stations where the dominant species were Rhizosolenia sp. Nitrogenous new production and regenerated productions were measured using the stable isotope $^{15}N$ nitrate and ammonia uptake method. The vertically integrated nitrogen production varied between 8.470 and $72.945\;mg\;N\;m^{-2}\;d^{-1}$. The f-ratio, which is the traction of new production from primary production, waried between 0.03 and 0.72, indicating that $3\%$ to $72\%$ of primary production was supported by the input of nutrients from below the euphotic zone and the rest are supported by ammonia recycled within the euphotic layer. This range of f-ratio encompasses from extremely oligotrophic to eutrophic area characteristics. The differences in productivity and f-ratio among stations were related to frontal structure and the bottom topography. The values were high near the frontal zone and low outside of it, and the station near Ulleng Island showed the highest f-ratio. Vertical diffusion coefficients were calculated from both the water column stability (Kz-1) of King and Devol's equation (1979) and new nitrogen requirement (Kz-2). The values of Kz-2 ($0.11\~0.55\;cm^2/s$) were relatively low compared to the values reported previously.

  • Objective: To quantify, for each activation, the effect of preactivations of differing distribution and intensity on the neutral position of T-loops (7-mm height), specifically the horizontal force, moment to force (M/F) ratio, and load to deflection ratio. Methods: A total 100 loops measuring $0.017{\times}0.025$ inches in cross-section were divided into two groups (n = 50 each) according to composition, either stainless steel or beta-titanium. The two groups were further divided into five subgroups, 10 loops each, corresponding to the five preactivations tested: preactivations with occlusal distribution ($0^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, and $40^{\circ}$), gingival distribution ($20^{\circ}$), and occlusal-gingival distribution ($40^{\circ}$). The loops were subjected to a total activation of 6-mm with 0.5-mm iterations. Statistical analysis was performed using comprised ANOVA and Bonferoni multiple comparison tests, with a significance level of 5%. Results: The location and intensity of preactivation influenced the force intensity. For the M/F ratio, the highest value achieved without preactivation was lower than the height of the loop. Without preactivation, the M/F ratio increased with activation, while the opposite effect was observed with preactivation. The increase in the M/F ratio was greater when the preactivation distribution was partially or fully gingival. Conclusions: Depending on the preactivation distribution, displacement of uprights is higher or lower than the activation, which is a factor to consider in clinical practice.
