  • Due to the growth of social network systems (SNS), big data are realized and Hadoop was developed as a distributed platform for analyzing big data. Enterprises analyze data containing users' sensitive information by using Hadoop and utilize them for marketing. Therefore, researches on data encryption have been done to protect the leakage of sensitive data stored in Hadoop. However, the existing researches support only the AES encryption algorithm, the international standard of data encryption. Meanwhile, Korean government choose ARIA algorithm as a standard data encryption one. In this paper, we propose a HDFS data encryption scheme using ARIA algorithms on Hadoop. First, the proposed scheme provide a HDFS block splitting component which performs ARIA encryption and decryption under the distributed computing environment of Hadoop. Second, the proposed scheme also provide a variable-length data processing component which performs encryption and decryption by adding dummy data, in case when the last block of data does not contains 128 bit data. Finally, we show from performance analysis that our proposed scheme can be effectively used for both text string processing applications and science data analysis applications.

It presents a hardware-efficient design to increase the throughput for the ARIA algorithm using a high-speed pipeline architecture. We have used ROM for the S-box implementation. This approach aims to decrease the critical path delay of the encryption. In this paper, hardware was designed by VHDL, realized RTL level by Synplify which is synthesis tool and verified simulation by ModelSim. The ARIA algorithm is shown 68.3 MHz (Maximum operation frequency) to use Xilinx VertxE XCV Series device.

  • Telemetry system is a communication system that measures and transmits various signals in the aircraft to the ground for collecting and monitoring flight data during the development of unmanned air vehicle and satellite launch vehicles. With the recent development of wireless communication technology, it is becoming important to apply encryption of telemetry system to prepare with security threats that may occur during flight data transmission. In this paper, we suggested and implemented the application method of ARIA-256, Korean standard encryption algorithm, to apply encryption to telemetry system. In consideration of the block error propagation and the telemetry frame characteristics, frame is encrypted using the CTR mode and can apply the Reed-solomon codes recommended by CCSDS. ARIA algorithm and cipher frame are implemented in FPGA, and simulation and hardware verification system confirmed continuous frames encryption.

  • With recent growing of application service, servers are required to sustain great amount of data and to handle them quickly: besides, data must be processed securely. The main security algorithm used in security services of server is AES(Advanced Encryption Standard - 2001 published by NIST), which is widely accepted in the world market for superiority of performance. In Korea, NSRI(National Security Research Institute) has developed ARIA(Academy, Research Institute, Agency) algorithm in 2004 and LEA(Lightweight Encryption Algorithm) algorithm in 2012. In this paper, we show advantage of LEA by comparing performance with AES and ARIA in various servers.

  • This paper describes an implementation of ARIA crypto algorithm which is a KS (Korea Standards) block cipher algorithm. The ARIA crypto-core supports three master key lengths of 128/192/256-bit specified in the standard and the four modes of operation including ECB, CBC, CTR and OFB. To reduce hardware complexity, a hardware sharing is employed, which shares round function in encryption/decryption module with key initialization module. The ARIA crypto-core is verified by FPGA implementation, the estimated throughput is about 1.07 Gbps at 167 MHz.

  • This paper describes a lightweight implementation of a cryptographic processor supporting GCM (Galois/Counter Mode) authenticated encryption (AE) that is based on the two block cipher algorithms of ARIA and AES. It also provides five modes of operation (ECB, CBC, OFB, CFB, CTR) for confidentiality as well as the key lengths of 128-bit and 256-bit. The ARIA and AES are integrated into a single hardware structure, which is based on their algorithm characteristics, and a $128{\times}12-b$ partially parallel GF (Galois field) multiplier is adopted to efficiently perform concurrent processing of CTR encryption and GHASH operation to achieve overall performance optimization. The hardware operation of the ARIA/AES-GCM AE processor was verified by FPGA implementation, and it occupied 60,800 gate equivalents (GEs) with a 180 nm CMOS cell library. The estimated throughput with the maximum clock frequency of 95 MHz are 1,105 Mbps and 810 Mbps in AES mode, 935 Mbps and 715 Mbps in ARIA mode, and 138~184 Mbps in GCM AE mode according to the key length.

  • Database encryption is one of the important mechanisms for prohibiting internal malicious users and outside hackers from utilizing data. Frequent occurrences of encryption and decryption cause degradation of database performance so that many factors should be considered in implementing encryption system. In this paper, we propose an architecture of database encryption system and data encryption module. In addition we suggest extended SQL in order to manage data encryption and decryption. In implementing database encryption system, we adopt ARIA encryption algorithm which is proved to be the most fast one among Korea standardized encryption algorithm. We use an single key for each database in encrypting data rather than using several keys in order to improve performance. Research over performance evaluation of database encryption system is rare up to now. Based on our implemented system, we provide performance evaluation results over various H/W platforms and compare performance differences between plain text and encrypted data.

  • An encryption algorithm is executed to supply data confidentiality using a secret key which is embedded in a crypto device. However, the fault injection attack has been developed to extract the secret key by injecting errors during the encryption processes. Especially, an attacker can find the secret key of block cipher ARIA using about 33 faulty outputs. In this paper, we proposed a countermeasure resistant to the these fault injection attacks by checking the difference value between input and output informations. Using computer simulation, we also verified that the proposed countermeasure has excellent fault detection rate and negligible computational overhead.
