  • Suppose that { $X_{i}$ } is a stationary AR(1) process and { $Y_{j}$ } is an ARX process with { $X_{i}$ } as exogeneous variables. Let $Y_{j}$ $^{*}$ be the stochastic process which is the sum of $Y_{j}$ and a nonstochastic trend. In this paper we consider the problem of estimating the conditional probability that $Y_{{n+1}}$$^{*}$ is bigger than $X_{{n+1}}$, given $X_{1}$, $Y_{1}$$^{*}$,..., $X_{n}$ , $Y_{n}$ $^{*}$. As an estimator for the tolerance probability, an Mann-Whitney statistic based on least squares residuars is suggested. It is shown that the deviations between the estimator and true probability are stochatically bounded with $n^{{-1}$2}/ order. The result may be applied to the stress-strength reliability theory when the stress and strength variables violate the classical iid assumption.umption.n.

  • In this paper, we introduce a unit root test via discrete cosine transform in the AR(1) process. We first investigate the statistical properties of DCT coefficients under the stationary AR(1) process and the random walk process in order to verify the validity of the proposed method. A bootstrapping approach is proposed to induce the distribution of the test statistic under the unit root. We performed simulation studies for comparing the powers of the Dickey-Fuller test and the proposed test.

  • In this paper the parameter change problem in the stationary time series is considered. We propose a cumulative sum (CUSUM) of squares-type test statistic for detection of parameter changes in the AR(1) process. The proposed test statistic is based on the CUSIM of the squared observations and is shown to converge to a standard Brownian bridge. Simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed statistic and a real example is provided to illustrate the procedure.

  • Suppose that a stationary process ${X_t}$ has a marginal distribution whose support consists of sufficiently large integers. We are concerned with some analogous law of large numbers for such distribution function F. In particular, we determine a weak law of large numbers for maximum queueing length in $M/M\infty$ system. We also present a limiting behavior for the maxima based on AR(1) process with binomial thining and poisson marginals (INAR(1)) introduced by E. Mckenzie. It turns out that the result of AR(1) process is the same as that of $M/M/\infty$ queueing process in limit when we observe the queues at regularly spaced intervals of time.

  • In this paper a new control chart which accounts for correlation between process subgroups will be proposed. We consider the case where the process fluctuations are autocorrelated by a stationary AR(1) time series and where n($\geq1$) items are sampled from the process at each sampling time. A simulation study is presented and shows that for correlated subgroups, the proposed control chart makes a significant improvement over the traditionally employed X-bar chart which ignores subgroup correlations. Finally, we illustrate the proposed chart by comparing the standardized residuals and X-bar chart on a data set of motor shaft diameters.

  • An asymptotic property of the estimated eigenvalues for multivariate AR(p) process which consists of vector of nonstationary process and vector of stationary process is developed. All components of the nonstationary process are assumed to reveal random walk behavior. The asymptotic property is helpful in understanding multiple unit roots. In this paper we show the stationay part in multivariate AR(p) process does not affect the limiting distribution of estimated eigenvalues associated with the nonstationary process. A test statistic based on the ordinary least squares estimator for testing a certain number of multiple unit roots is suggested.

  • For estimating parameters of possibly nonlinear and/or non-stationary seasonal autoregressive(AR) processes, we introduce a new instrumental variable method which use the direction vector of the regressors in the same period as an instrument. On the basis of the new estimator, we propose new seasonal random walk tests whose limiting null distributions are standard normal regardless of the period of seasonality and types of mean adjustments. Monte-Carlo simulation shows that he powers of he proposed tests are better than those of the tests based on ordinary least squares estimator(OLSE).

  • In order to explain a U-shape pattern of stock returns, Fama and French(1988) suggested the state-space model consisting of I(1) permanent component and AR(1) stationary component. They concluded the autoregression coefficient induced from the state-space model follow the U-shape pattern and the U-shape pattern of stock returns was due to both negative autocorrelation in returns beyond a year and substantial mean-reversion in stock market prices. However, we found negative autocorrelation is induced under the assumption that permanent and stationary noise component are independent in the state-space model. In this paper, we derive the autoregression coefficient based on ARIMA process equivalent to the state-space model without the assumption of independency. Based on the estimated parameters, we investigate the pattern of the time-varying autoregression coefficient and conclude the autoregression coefficient from the state-space model of ARIMA(1,1,1) process does not follow a U-shape pattern, but has always positive sign. We applied this result on the data of 1 month retums for all NYSE stocks for the 1926-85 period from the Center for Research in Security Prices.

  • Let $X_{t}$ = .beta. $X_{{t-1}}$ + .epsilon.$_{t}$ be an autoregressive process where $\mid$.beta.$\mid$ < 1 and {.epsilon.$_{t}$} is independent and identically distriubted with regularly varying tail probabilities. This process is called the asymptotically stationary first-order autoregressive process (AR(1)) with infinite variance. In this paper, we obtain a host of weak convergences of some point processes based on bootstrapping of { $X_{t}$}. These kinds of results can be generalized under the infinite variance assumption to ensure the asymptotic validity of the bootstrap method for various functionals of { $X_{t}$} such as partial sums, sample covariance and sample correlation functions, etc.ions, etc.
