The thermal buckling properties of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) are studied using nonlocal Timoshenko beam model, including the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia. The DWCNTs are considered as two nanotube shells coupled through the van der Waals interaction between them. The geometric nonlinearity is taken into account, which arises from the mid-plane stretching. Considering the small-scale effects, the governing equilibrium equations are derived and the critical buckling temperatures under uniform temperature rise are obtained. The results show that the critical buckling temperature can be overestimated by the local beam model if the nonlocal effect is overlooked for long nanotubes. In addition, the effect of shear deformation and rotary inertia on the buckling temperature is more obvious for the higher-order modes. The investigation of the thermal buckling properties of DWCNTs may be used as a useful reference for the application and the design of nanostructures in which DWCNTs act as basic elements.
Thin film ethanol sensors made from ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ decorated with multiwall carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) were manufactured by the electron beam deposition method. The morphology of the decorated ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$/MWCNTs (25:1 weight ratios) nanocomposite powder was investigated using the scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques. The thickness of thin films has been determined from ellipsometric measurements. The response of manufactured sensors was investigated at different temperatures of the sensor work body and concentration of gas vapors. Good response of prepared sensors to ethanol vapors already at work body temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ was shown.
A ZnO/poly (amide-imide) hybrid nanocomposite film with different weight percentages of Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles is synthesized and characterized in this paper. A two-step reaction successfully synthesized a new kind of heteroaromatic diamine with bulky pendant groups. In order to produce 3, 5-dinitro-3, 3-bis (4-(4-Nitrophenoxy) phenyl) -2- benzofuran-1-one, 3, 3'-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl) benzofuran-1-one and 3'-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl) benzofuran-1-one were combined with 3'-bis (3-hydroxyphenyl) benzofuran-1-one. The obtained dinitro was then reduced by zinc dust and hydrochloric acid. The reaction of 4, 4* carbonyl diphthalic anhydride with amino acid L-alanine in acetic acid leads to the production of very high yields of chiral diacid monomer. As a result of the direct polymerization of these monomers, new optically active polymers were formed (amide-imide). In order to synthesize poly (amide-imide)/ZnO nanocomposites with different weight percentages (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10%), PAI and ZnO nanoparticles were combined using ultrasonication SEM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and thermal gravimetry were used to characterize the PAI films.
In the oil and gas industry, composite materials should exhibit high flexibility and strength for offshore structures. Therefore, weak points in the composites should be improved, such as brittleness, moisture penetration, and diffusion of detrimental ions into nanometric pores. This study aimed to increase the strength, flexibility, and plugging of nanopores using single-layer graphene oxide (SGO) nanosheets. Therefore, SGO is added to unsaturated polyester resin at concentrations of 0.015 and 0.15 % with Normal Methyl Pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solvent for the formation of Nanographene Oxide Reinforced Polymer (NGORP). The mechanical properties of the prepared samples were tested using tensile testing (ASTM-D 638). It has been shown that incorporating SGO, approximately 0.015%, into the base resin resulted in enhanced properties such as rupture resistance forces increased by 745.61 N, applied stress tolerances increased by 4.1 MPa, longitude increased to 1.58 mm, elongation increased by about 2.38%, and rupture energy increased by about 204.51 J. Despite the decrease in tensile force strength properties in the manufactured nanocomposite with 0.15% SGO, it has exclusive flexibility properties such as a high required energy level for rupture of 5,576 times and a formability of 40% more than the base sample. It would be best to use NGORP manufactured from 0.015% nanosheets with exclusive properties rather than base samples for constructing parts and equipment, such as rebars, composite sheets, and transmission pipes, on offshore platforms.
One-dimensional multiferroic nanostructured composites have drawn increasing interest as they show tremendous potential for multifunctional devices and applications. Herein, we report the synthesis, structural and dielectric characterization of barium titanate ($BaTiO_3$)-bismuth ferrite ($BiFeO_3$) composite fibers that were obtained using a novel sol-gel based electrospinning technique. The microstructure of the fibers was investigated using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The fibers had an average diameter of 120 nm and were composed of nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction (XRD) study of the composite fibers demonstrated that the fibers are composed of perovskite cubic $BaTiO_3$-$BiFeO_3$ crystallites. The magnetic hysteresis loops of the resultant fibers demonstrated that the fibers were ferromagnetic with magnetic coercivity of 1500 Oe and saturation magnetization of 1.55 emu/g at room temperature (300 K). Additionally, the dielectric response of the composite fibers was characterized as a function of frequency. Their dielectric permittivity was found to be 140 and their dielectric loss was low in the frequency range from 1000 Hz to $10^7$ Hz.

Iron oxide nanoparticles excite researcher interest in biomedical applications due to their low cost, biocompatibility and superparamagnetism properties. Magnetic iron oxide especially magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) possessed a superparamagnetic behaviour at certain nanosize which beneficial for drug and gene delivery, diagnosis and imaging. The properties of nanoparticles mainly depend on their synthesis procedure. There has been a massive effort in developing the best synthetic strategies to yield appropriate physico-chemical properties namely co-precipitation, thermal decomposition, microemulsions, hydrothermal and sol-gel. In this review, it is discovered that magnetite nanoparticles are best yielded by co-precipitation method owing to their simplicity and large production. However, its magnetic saturation is within range of 70-80 emu/g which is lower than thermal decomposition and hydrothermal methods (80-90 emu/g) at 100 nm. Dimension wise, less than 100 nm is produced by co-precipitation method at $70^{\circ}C-80^{\circ}C$ while thermal decomposition and hydrothermal methods could produce less than 50 nm but at very high temperature ranging between $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$. Thus, co-precipitation is the optimum method for pre-compliance magnetite nanoparticles preparation (e.g., 100 nm is fit enough for biomedical applications) since thermal decomposition and hydrothermal required more sophisticated facilities.
Biosynthesis of nanoparticles has acquired particular attention due to its economic feasibility, low toxicity and simplicity of the process. Extracellular synthesis of nanoparticles by bacteria and fungi has been stated to be brought about by enzymes and other reducing agents that may be secreted in the culture medium. The present study was carried out to determine the underlying mechanisms of extracellular silver nanoparticle synthesis by Pseudomonas hibiscicola isolated from the effluent of an electroplating industry in Mumbai. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by spectroscopy and electron microscopic techniques. Protein profiling studies were done using Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (1D-SDS PAGE) and subjected to identification by Mass Spectrometry. Characterization studies revealed synthesis of 50 nm nanoparticles of well-defined morphology. Total protein content and SDS PAGE analysis revealed a reduction of total protein content in test (nanoparticles solution) samples when compared to controls (broth supernatant). 45.45% of the proteins involved in the process of nanoparticle synthesis were identified to be oxidoreductases and are thought to be involved in either reduction of metal ions or capping of synthesized nanoparticles.
In this study we present the reaction mechanism of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ (CZTSe) nanoparticles synthesized by microwave-assisted chemical synthesis. We performed reactions every 10 minutes in order to identify different phases during quaternary CZTSe formation. The powder samples were analyzed by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that in the first minutes copper phases are predominant, then copper and tin secondary phases react to form ternary phase. The quaternary phase is formed at 50 minutes while ternary and secondary phases are consumed. At 60 minutes pure quaternary CZTSe phase is present. After 60 minutes the quaternary phase decomposes in the previous ternary and secondary phases, which indicates that 60 minutes is ideal reaction time. The EDS analysis of pure quaternary nanocrystals (CZTSe) showed stoichiometric relations similar to the reported research in the literature, which falls in the range of Cu/(Zn+Sn): 0.8-1.0, Zn/Sn: 1.0-1.20. In conclusion, the evolution pathway of CZTSe synthesized by this novel method is similar to other synthesis methods reported before. Nanoparticles synthesized in this study present desirable properties in order to use them in solar cell and photoelectrochemical cell applications.
The current investigation aims to study performance of geopolymer mortar reinforced with Multiwalled carbon nanotubes upon exposure to $200^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. MWCNTs are doped into slag Geopolymer mortar matrices in the ratio of 0.0 to 0.4, % by weight of binder. Mortar composed of calcium aluminosilicate to sand (1:2), however, binder composed of 50% air cooled slag and 50% water cooled slag. Various water / binder ratios in the range of 0.114-0.129 used depending on the added MWCNT, while 6 wt., % sodium hydroxide used as an alkali activator. Results illustrate reduction in mechanical strength with temperature except specimens containing 0.1 and 0.2% MWCNT at $200^{\circ}C$, while further increase in temperature leads to decrease in strength values of the resulting geopolymer mortar. Also, decrease in firing shrinkage with MWCNT up to 0.1% at all firing temperatures up to $500^{\circ}C$ is observed, however the shrinkage values increase with temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$. Further increase on the firing temperature up to $1000^{\circ}C$ results in an increase in the volume due to expansion.
The existence of active material in the environment causes the small-scale systems to be sensitive to the actual environment. Carbon dioxide is one of the active materials that exists a lot in the air conditions of the living environment. However, in some applications, the carbon dioxide-coated is used to improve the performance of systems against the destructive factors such as the corrosion; nevertheless, in the current research, the stability analysis of a carbon dioxide capture mechanism-coated beam is investigated according to the mathematical simulation of a rectangular composite beam utilizing the modified couple stress theory. The composite mechanism of carbon dioxide trapping is made of a polyacrylonitrile substrate that supports a cross-link polydimethylsiloxane gutter layer as the carbon dioxide mechanism trapping. Three novel types of carbon dioxide trapping mechanism involving methacrylate, poly (ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate, and three pedant methacrylates are considered, which were introduced by Fu et al. (2016). Finally, according to introducing the methodology of carbon dioxide (CO2) trapping, the impact of various effective parameters on the stability of composite beams will be analyzed in detail.
