  • We have developed a new model selection criteria, the partial intrinsic Bayes factor, which is designed for cases when we select a model among a small number of candidate models. For example, we can choose only a few candidate models after exploring scatter plots. By simulation study, we have showed that PIBF performs better than AIC, BIC and GCV.

  • By using simple Taylor expansion, we derive an easy bias-correction rule for the apparent prodiction error of the predictor defined by the general M-estimators with respect to an arbitrary measure of prediction error. Our method has a considerable computational advantage over the previous methods based on the resampling thchnique such as Cross-validaton and Boothtrap. Connections with AIC, Cross-Validation and Boothtrap are discussed too.

  • With the rapid growth of internet traffic, accurate and reliable prediction of internet traffic has been a key issue in network management and planning. This paper proposes an autoregressive-generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (AR-GARCH) error model for forecasting internet traffic and evaluates its performance by comparing it with seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models in terms of root mean square error (RMSE) criterion. The results indicated that the seasonal AR-GARCH models outperformed the seasonal ARIMA models in terms of forecasting accuracy with respect to the RMSE criterion.

  • In this research, we propose a simple bivariate zero inflated negative binomial regression model with different dispersion for bivariate count data with excess zeros. An application to the demand for health services shows that the proposed model is better than existing models in terms of log-likelihood and AIC.

  • A large volume of research has been devoted to the development of security tools for protecting the Smart Grid systems, however the most of them have not taken the Availability, Integrity, Confidentiality (AIC) security triad model, not like CIA triad model in traditional Information Technology (IT) systems, into account the security measures for the electricity control systems. Thus, this study would propose a novel security framework, an abnormal behavior detection system, to maximize the availability of the control systems by considering a unique set of characteristics of the systems.

  • Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring compounds derived from plants. Structurally, some phytoestrogens resemble endogenous estrogen of humans and animals. Phytoestrogens exhibit estrogen agonist/antagonist properties and have many biological effects such as prevention of hormone-dependent breast cancer, anti-oxidative activity, inhibition of tyrosine kinase activities and inhibition of angiogenesis. In this study we investigated whether biochanin A, a phytoestrogen, and its metabolites such genistein, p-ethylphenol and phenolic aic affect IL-4 production in EL-4 thymoma cell-line and primary lymph node cells. • The distribution of a response usually depends on the distribution of a variable. When the distribution of a variable has two different modes, the response also follows a distribution with two different modes. In most reliability analysis methods, the number of modes is irrelevant, but not the type of distribution. However, in actual problems, because information is often provided with two or more modes, it is important to estimate the distributions with two or more modes. Recently, some reliability analysis methods have been suggested for bimodal distributions. In this paper, we review some methods such as the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and maximum entropy principle (MEP) and compare them with the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) using mathematical examples with two different modes.

  • A digital controller can simply realize a complex operation algorithm and power control process which can not be applied by an analog circuit for a solar array regulator(SAR). The digital resistive control(DRC) makes an equivalent input impedance of the SAR be resistive characteristic. The resistance of the solar array varies largely in a voltage source region and slightly in a current source region. Therefore when the solar array regulator is controlled by the DRC, the Advanced Incremental Conductance MPPT Algorithm with a Variable Step Size(AIC-MPPT-VSS) is suitable. The AIC-MPPT-VSS, however, using small signal resistance and large signal resistance of the solar array can not limit the absolute value of the solar array power. In this paper, the solar array power limiter is suggested and the BUCK-BOOST type SAR which is fully controlled by the digital controller is verified by simulation.
