Due to the lack of improper image acquisition process, noise induction is an inevitable step. As a result, objective image quality assessment (IQA) plays an important role in estimating the visual quality of noisy image. Plenty of IQA methods have been proposed including traditional signal processing based methods as well as current deep learning based methods where the later one shows promising performance due to their complex representation ability. The deep learning based methods consists of several convolution layers and down sampling layers for feature extraction and fully connected layers for regression. Usually, the down sampling is performed by using max-pooling layer after each convolutional block. We reveal that this max-pooling causes information loss despite of knowing their importance. Consequently, we propose a better IQA method that replaces the max-pooling layers with strided convolutions to down sample the feature space and since the strided convolution layers have learnable parameters, they preserve optimal features and discard redundant information, thereby improve the prediction accuracy. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Isotactic polypropylene (PP) surfaces were modified with argon and oxygen plasmas using a radiofrequency (RF) glow discharge at 240 mTorr and 40 W. The changes in topography and surface structure were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) in conjunction with specular reflectance of infrared (IR) microspectroscopy. Under our operating conditions, the AFM image analysis revealed that longer plasma treatment resulted in significant ablation on the PP surface, regardless of the kind of plasma employed, but the topography was dependent on the nature of the gases. Specular reflectance IR spectroscopic analysis indicated that the constant removal of surface material was an important ablative aspect when using either plasma, but the nature of the ablative behavior and the resultant aging effects were clearly dependent on the choice of plasma. The use of argon plasma resulted in a negligible aging effect; in contrast, the use of oxygen plasma caused a noticeable aging effect, which was due to reactions of trapped or isolated radicals with oxygen in air, and was partly responsible for the increased surface area caused by ablation. The use of oxygen plasma is believed to be an advantageous approach to modifying polymeric materials with functionalized surfaces, e.g., for surface grafting of unsaturated monomers and incorporating oxygen-containing groups onto PP.
In this study, the changes in hair quality before and after Magic straight perm have been evaluated through a hair damage measurement method. For this, a healthy high school student's (age18 years) wavy hair was selected and permed on the left and right sides. Then, the changes caused by physical methods which were applied during the fl at iron-based Magic straight perm were evaluated based on the hair damage measurement method before and after the Magic straight perm. According to the protein release test after the Magic straight perm, 1.26% in average and 0.14% was observed in Cool Magic straight perm sample. In a field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) test, saw teeth-shaped partial desquamation of cuticle cells and impurities were observed in the warm-treated hair sample. In atomic force microscope (AFM), line-profile is a method to represent roughness data on hair. According to analysis on 3-dimensional (3D) images, the hair with Cool Magic straight perm was lower than the hair with Warm Magic perm in terms of the color change of 3D images. In addition, vertical changes were observed in the hair with Cool Magic perm. As a result, irregular surface roughness was observed. This study proposed a method to minimize hair damage by cooling down the heat with the cool hair straightener as soon as the Warm Magic was finished.

Nanostructured pure a-C and nitrogen doped a-C: N thin films with small particle size of, ~50 nm were obtained by Aerosol-assisted CVD method from the natural precursor camphor oil. Five samples were prepared for the a-C and a-C: N respectively, with the deposition temperatures ranging from $400^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. At high temperature, the AFM clarifies an even smoother image, due to the increase of the energetic carbon ion bombardment at the surface of the thin film. An ohmic contact was acquired from the current-voltage solar simulator characterization. The higher conductivity of a-C: N, of ${\sim}{\times}10^{-2}Scm^{-1}$ is due to the decrease in defects since the spin density gap decrease with the nitrogen addition. Pure a-C exhibit absorption coefficient, ${\alpha}$ of $10^4cm^{-1}$, whereas for a-C:N, ${\alpha}$ is of $10^5cm^{-1}$. The high ${\sigma}$ value of a-C:N is due to the presence of more graphitic component ($sp^2$ carbon bonding) in the carbon films.

Composite films were prepared by casting the solution of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and single wall nanotube (SWNT) in DMF subsequent to sonication. The SWNTs in the films are well dispersed as ropes with 20-30 nm thickness. Moreover, AFM surface image of the composite film displays an interwoven fibrous structure of nanotubes which may give rise to conductive passways and lead to high conductivity. The polarized Raman spectroscopy is an ideal characterization technique for identification and the orientation study of SWNT. The well-defined G-peak intensity at 1580 $cm^{-1}$shows a dependency on the draw ratio under cross-Nicol. The degree of nanotube orientation in the drawn film was measurable from the sine curve obtained by rotating the drawn film on the plane of cross-Nicol of polarized Raman microscope. The threshold loading of SWNT for electrical conductivity in PAN is found to be lower than 1 wt% in the composite film. The electrical conductivity of the SWNT/PAN composite film decreased with increasing of draw ratio due to the collapse of the interwoven fibrous network of the nanotubes with uniaxial orientation.
Tungsten oxide-modified TiO2 thin films were formed on a glass substrate by sol-gel and dip coating processes using acetyl acetone as a chelating agent. The hydrophilic properties of the thin films were investigated with illumination of UV light. The dependence of water contact angle on material composition and morphology of the film is established with SEM image and AFM profile. The surface morphology was controlled with the change of precursor concentration. 0.01 M of tungsten oxide-modified Ti$O_2$ have shown the highest hydrophilicity after UV-irradiation. The effect of composition on photoinduced hydrophilicity of the W$O_3$-Ti$O_2$ films was also investigated. The films were characterized by XRD, SEM, AFM and XPS.
In this study, in order to confirm the application possibility to the molecular electronic device, morphlogical property of the Arachidic acid was investigated. We have investigated morphology by BAM image and AFM. ${\pi}$-A curves investigated surface pressure of this LB film from liquid to solid state ranged between 40 to 45 mN/m. BAM images investigated the different states of Arachidic Acid LB film. When the surface pressure reaches at 40 mN/m, the monolayer was deposited onto the hydrophilic glass substrates by Y-type deposition. We also investigated the frequency characteristics of LB modified glass by QCM. We investigated morphology of arachidic acid by AFM. As a result, we obtained the frequency characteristic and morphology of LB films from controlling the deposited layers.
$Y_{2}O_{3}$ nanodots have been deposited on top of the substrate surface using rf-sputtering method. This approach was adopted to be able to modulate the substrate surface with nanodots used as a seed for the flux pinning sites in the superconducting films. The nanodot density of $Y_{2}O_{3}$ was controlled mainly using the deposition time, rf-power, and substrate temperature. $Y_{2}O_{3}$ nanodots with ${\sim}\;50\;nm$ in diameter and ${\sim}\;3\;nm$ in height were obtained at rf-sputtering time of about 15 seconds using 400 watts of rf-power and $630^{\circ}C$ of substrate temperature. As deposition time increased up to about 30 seconds, the interconnected islands of $Y_{2}O_{3}$ nanodots formed, which can be clearly observed with AFM surface image. The substrate surface was covered entirely with $Y_{2}O_{3}$ layer above the deposition time of 60 seconds. The modulated surface morphologies and cross section analysis of deposited $Y_{2}O_{3}$ nanodots at various experimental conditions have been examined using AFM and discussed with respect to the flux pinning sites for the practical application.
The scanning Maxwell-stress microscopy (SMM) is a dynamic noncontact electric force microscopy that allows simultaneous access to the electrical properties of molecular system such as surface potential, surface charge, dielectric constant and conductivity along with the topography. The Scanning near-field optical / atomic force microscopy (SNOAM) is a new tool for surface imaging which was introduced as one application of the atomic force microscope (AFM). Operated with non-contact forces between the optical fiber and sample as well as equipped with the piezoscanners, the instrument reports on surface topology without damaging or modifying the surface for measuring of optical characteristic in the films. We report our recent results of its application to nanoscopic study of domain structures and electrical functionality in organic thin films by SMM. Furthermore, we have illustrated the SNOAM image in obtaining the merocyanine dye films as well as the optical image.
