AC-PDP의 제작결함과 전기적 특성의 상관관계에 관한 연구 (Discharge Characteristics of Surface Discharge AC PDP : Cross-talk and other geometric effect)

  • In this paper, the AC-PDP's structural defects with a gap between front and rear glass are investigated. Breakdown voltage, sustain voltage, current and brightness have been measured for various gaps between two plates under various gas pressures. The experimental results show that the firing voltage, sustain voltage and brightness were decreased whereas the discharge current was increased as the gap increased. When the gap is over $40{\mu}m$, it was impossible to drive cells separately.

  • In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of MgO thin film prepared by unbalanced magnetron sputtering(UBMS) in surface discharge type AC PDP The minimum discharge voltage is obtained for the sample of substrate bias voltage-10V. Moreover the anti-sputtering characteristics of MgO thin film by UBMS is improved about 40% than one of balanced magnetron sputtering(BMS)

  • The power source of an AC-PDP fur sustainer circuit is operated in high-voltage and high frequency switching during the process required to achieve the gas discharge current to generate light in a PDP panel. Since PDP has the characteristics of a pure capacitive load, the displacement current that occurs during charge and discharge generates considerable reactive power. An auxiliary circuitry called Energy Recovery Circuit (ERC) reduces the capacitive displacement current. However, this auxiliary topology also bears high stress in its components. In this paper, a multilevel voltage wave shaping sustainer circuit with auxiliary ERC characteristics for an AC-PDP driver is proposed. A comparative analysis and experimental results are presented.

  • The method of supplying a single voltage source to a drive has a weak point that we can not determine whether discharging cells of a upper panel in a PDP(Plasma display panel) operate properly or not in the step of testing a durable voltage. From this paper, we can make more reliable products by the design-method of a power-module, for testing a durable voltage, that can determine if discharging cells in a upper pannel in a PDP have something wrong in variously supplied voltage sources.

  • The ac plasma display panel(PDP) is a flat light-emitting gas discharge device. Discharge gases directly take effects to the discharge phenomena of ac PDP. Therefore it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the discharge gases. In this paper, we have studied the effects of discharge gases by voltage transfer curves which show the discharge characteristics of ac PDP and the change of the effective wall capacitance during a discharge which depends on lateral spreading of charge distribution and the strength of discharge. As gas pressure increases, memory margins increases. and the firing voltage of a mixed gas is lower than that of a single gas such as He gas. The minimum sustain voltage and the maximum sustain voltage or firing voltage increases with decrease in the frequency. The effective wall capacitance increases as the discharge strength that is, the gap voltage between discharge electrodes increases.

  • MgO(Magnesium Oxide) film was deposited by the Ion Plating method and the characteristics of the MgO films were analyzed by XRD and SEM. The MgO films prepared by Ion Plating were used in AC Plasma Display Panel and breakdown voltage, minimum sustain voltage and memory margin of fabricated panel were investigated.

High Frequency and High Luminance AC-PDP Sustaining Driver

  • Plasma display panels (PDPs) have a serious thermal problem, because the luminance efficiency of a conventional PDP is about 1.5 1m/W and it is less than $3\~5\;lm/W$ of a cathode ray tube (CRT). Thus there is a need for improving the luminance efficiency of the PDP. There are several approaches to improve the luminance efficiency of the PDP and we adopted a driving PDP at high frequency range from 400kHz up to over 700kHz. Since a PDP is regarded as an equivalent inherent capacitance, many types of sustaining drivers have been proposed and widely used to recover the energy stored in the PDP. However, these circuits have some drawbacks for driving PDPs at high frequency ranges. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the parasitic components on the PDP itself and on the driver when the reactive energy of the panel is recovered. Various drivers are classified and evaluated based on their suitability for high frequency drivers. Finally, a current-fed driver with a DC input voltage bias is proposed. This driver overcomes the effect of parasitic components in the panel and driver. It fully achieves a ZVS of all full-bridge switches and reduces the transition time of the panel polarity. It is tested to validate the high frequency sustaining driver and the experimental results are presented.

플라즈마 디스플레이의 개방형 유전체 구조에서 기입방전특성을 향상시키기 위한 Vt 폐곡선 분석 (Vt Close Curve Analysis for Improving Address Discharge Characteristics in Open Dielectric Structure of AC PDP)

  • 교류형 플라즈마 디스플레이에서의 Vt 폐곡선 측정에 기초하여 개방형 유전체 구조에서 방전 전압과 내부 벽전압 등의 방전 특성이 종래의 구조와 비교되어 조사되었다. 일반적인 교류형 플라즈마 디스플레이의 구조에서 상판은 유리, 전극, 유전체 등으로 이루어져 있는데, 개방형 유전체 구조는 상판 전극사이에 있는 유전체를 제거하여 상판에 있는 유지 전극간의 방전이 더욱 쉽게 발생하도록 하는 구조이다. 개방형 유전체 구조는 종래의 구조와 다르기 때문에 종래의 구동파형으로 구동시에 여러 가지 문제가 발생한다. 특히 상판의 두 전극인 주사와 유지전극 간 방전 개시전압이 달라지기 때문에 종래의 기입 파형을 포함한 초기화 파형도 수정되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 종래와 개방형 유전체 구조에서 3 전극의 방전개시전압을 비교하기 위하여 Vt 폐곡선을 측정하였고 분석에 기초하여 개방형 유전체 구조에 적합하도록 구동파형이 수정되었다.

반응성 스파트링에 의한 PDP용 MgO 보호층 형성과 그 방전특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Discharge Characteristics and Formation of MgO Protection Layer for PDP by Reactive Sputtering)

  • MgO protection layer in ac PDP(plasma display panel) prevents the dielectric layer from ion bombarding in discharge plasma. The MgO layer also has the additional important role in lowering the firing voltage due to a large secondary electron emission coefficient. Until now, the MgO protection layer is mainly prepared by E-beam evaporation. In this study, MgO protection layer is prepared on dielectric layer of ac PDP cell by reactive R.F magnetron sputtering with Mg target under various conditions of oxygen partial pressure. Discharge characteristics of PDP is also studied as a parameter of MgO preparation conditions. The sputtered MgO shows the better discharge characteristics compared with MgO deposited by E-beam evaporator.
