This paper presents a hardware for image alignment based on proposed new algorithm which can align a small misaligned document image simply by one transformation with a parallel shifting of pixels. This hardware is simulated with VHDL and estimated to be about 65 ms to align an image made up of 380 by 480 pixels. Also, we will demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed image alignment algorithm in OCR system by comparing its characteristics with those of the existing image rotation algorithms.

This paper studies a boundary value problem for a linear coupled Luikov's system of heat and mass diffusion in one-dimensional case. Using an a priori estimate, we prove the uniqueness of the solution. Also, some traveling wave solutions and explicit solutions are obtained by using the transformation ${\xi}$ = x - ct and separation method respectively.

This paper deals with the compensation of the impact of highly varying loads on the power system using a static var compensator (SVC). A procedure to determine a suitable capacity of the compensator is proposed, and it is implemented using PSCAD/EMTDC. The proposed method is applied to a test system to illustrate its capabilities.

Recently, in spindle motors for hard disk drive (HDD) devices, fluid dynamic bearings (FDB) with herringbone grooves have come to be used instead of ball bearings due to the demand for high density recording of the devices etc. In this study, a 5-lobe bearing with high bearing stiffness using a sintered material was developed, and the bearing performance was examined by simulated calculations and experiments. As a result, it was clarified that the 5-lobe bearing had the required performance for practical use in the spindle motor for HDD

Aromatic diamine containing ortho catenation and methyl group was synthesized from 4-methyl catechol and 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride. Subsequently, a poly(amic acid) was prepared by reacting 4-methyl-1,2-phenylene bis(4-aminobenzoate) with 4,4'-hexafluoroisopropylidenediphthalic anhydride (6FDA). The resulting poly(amic acid) was transformed into a polyimide through chemical imidization. The polyimide formed was soluble in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and could be cast into a flexible, transparent film. Furthermore, the polyimide exhibited a 5% weight loss at 380 ℃ in the nitrogen atmosphere.

As a continuation of the paper [3], in this paper we investigate the further properties on LI-ideals, and show that how to generate an LI-ideal by both and LI-ideal and an element. We define a prime LI-ideal, and give an equivalent condition for a proper LI-ideal to be prime. Using this result, we establish the extension property and prime LI-ideal theorem.

This paper is concerned with a kind of boundary value problem for singular second order differential systems with Laplacian operators. Using a multiple fixed point theorem, sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of at least three positive solutions of this kind of boundary value problem are established. An example is presented to illustrate the main results.

An optical device, named "T-MES", to measure the accuracy of printed scale of measuring tapes was developed. It has 11 optical sensors, that are exactly positioned every 100 mm on the 1 m frame. The sensors detect the beginning of the printed part and generate the puleses. The time difference between each signal pulse and the first sensor signal pulse is proportional to the error of printed scale. The measured data are trasmitted through a IEEE-488 interface to a IBM-AT computer and analyzed. The analysis software continuously displays the measured result on the CRT.n the CRT.

A new color image segmentation scheme is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm consists of image simplification, region labeling and color clustering. The vector-valued diffusion process is performed in the perceptually uniform LUV color space. We present a discrete 3-D diffusion model for easy implementation. The statistical characteristics of each labeled region are employed to estimate the number of total clusters and agglomerative hierarchical clustering is performed with the estimated number of clusters. Since the proposed clustering algorithm counts each region as a unit, it does not generate oversegmentation along region boundaries.
