  • A system design and realization for video surveillance with interframe probability distribution analyzation is presented in this paper. The system design is based on a high performance DSP professor, video surveillance is implemented by analyzing interframe probability distribution using trivariate normal distribution(weight, mean, variance) for scanning objects in a restricted area and the video analysis algorithm is decided for forming a different image from the probability distribution of several frame compressed by the standardized JPEG. The system processing time of D1$(720{\times}480)$ image per frame is 85ms and enables to process the system at 12 frames per second. An object surveillance about the restricted area by rules is extracted to 100% unless object is moved faster.

  • To meet the increased demand of video-on-demand (VoD) services, peer-to-peer (P2P) mesh-based multiple video approaches have been recently proposed, where each peer is able to find a video segment interested without resort to the video server. However, they have not considered the constraint of the server's upload bandwidth and the fairness between upload and download amounts at each peer. In this paper, we propose a novel P2P VoD streaming system, named peer cache adaptation (PECAN) where each peer adjusts its cache capacity adaptively to meet the server's upload bandwidth constraint and achieve the fairness. For doing so, we first propose a new cache replacement algorithm that designs the number of caches for a segment to be proportional to its popularity. Second, we mathematically prove that if the cache capacity of a peer is proportional to its segment request rate, the fairness between upload and download amounts at each peer can be achieved. Third, we propose a method that determines each peer's cache capacity adaptively according to the constraint of the server's upload bandwidth. Against the proposed design objective, some selfish peers may not follow our protocol to increase their payoff. To detect such peers, we design a simple distributed reputation and monitoring system. Through simulations, we show that PECAN meets the server upload bandwidth constraint, and achieves the fairness well at each peer. We finally verify that the control overhead in PECAN caused by the search, reputation, and monitoring systems is very small, which is an important factor for real deployment.

  • In this paper, we propose applying differential techniques for 2D/3D video conversion to the objects grouped by depth information. One of the problems converting 2D images to 3D images using the technique tracking the motion of pixels is that objects not moving between adjacent frames do not give any depth information. This problem can be solved by applying relative height cue only to the objects which have no moving information between frames, after the process of splitting the background and objects and extracting depth information using motion vectors between objects. Using this technique all the background and object can have their own depth information. This proposed method is used to generate depth map to generate 3D images using DIBR(Depth Image Based Rendering) and verified that the objects which have no movement between frames also had depth information.

  • The video surveillance system is adopted in many places due to its efficiency and constancy in monitoring a specific area over a long period of time. However, many surveillance systems composed of a single static camera often produce unsatisfactory results due to their lack of field of view. In this paper, we present a video surveillance system based on wide baseline stereo cameras to overcome the limitation. We adopt the codebook algorithm and mathematical morphology to robustly model the foreground pixels of the moving object in the scene and calculate the trajectory of the moving object via 3D reconstruction. The experimental results show that the proposed system detects a moving object and generates a top view trajectory successfully to track the location of the object in the world coordinates.

  • FGS (fine granularity scalability) supporting scalability in MPEG-4 Part 2 is a scalable video coding scheme that provides bit-rate adaptation to varying network bandwidth thereby achieving of its optimal video quality. In this paper, we proposed FGS coding scheme which performs one more bit-plane coding for residue signal occured in the enhancement-layer of the basic FGS coding scheme. The experiment evaluated in terms of video quality scalability of the proposed FGS coding scheme by comparing with FGS coding scheme of the MPEG-4 verification model (VM-FGS). The comparison was conducted by analysis of PSNR values of three tested video sequences. The results showed that when using rate control algorithm VM5+, the proposed FGS coding scheme obtained Y, U, V PSNR of 0.4 dB, 9.4 dB, 9 dB averagely higher and when using fixed QP value 17, obtained Y, U, V PSNR of 4.61 dB, 20.21 dB, 16.56 dB averagely higher than the existing VM-FGS. From results, we found that the proposed FGS coding scheme has higher video quality scalability to be able to achieve video quality from minimum to maximum than VM-FGS.

  • In this paper, I propose a video watermaking method using adaptive threshold value and half-cell motion vector. Conventional method cause a lot of change of motion vectors and bring about a falling-off in invisibility, because it search embedding condition about whole macroblocks and watermarks are embedded in arbitrary motion vectors. Proposed method improve invisibility and decrease in number of change of motion vectors, because it create threshold value by using power of motion vector(PMV), and watermarks are embedded in motion vectors which greater than threshold value. Consequently, proposed method improve invisibility with on an average 5.4 dB ~9.3dB according to video bit-stream.

  • In 2D-to-3D video conversion process, the virtual left and right view can be generated from 2D video and its corresponding depth map by depth image based rendering (DIBR). The depth map plays an important role in conversion system, so the copyright protection for depth map is necessary. However, the provided virtual views may be distributed illegally and the depth map does not directly expose to viewers. In previous works, the copyright information embedded into the depth map cannot be extracted from virtual views after the DIBR process. In this paper, a new copyright protection scheme for the depth map is proposed, in which the copyright information can be detected from the virtual views even without the depth map. The experimental results have shown that the proposed method has a good robustness against JPEG attacks, filtering and noise.

  • Human action recognition is used in areas such as surveillance, entertainment, and healthcare. This paper proposes a system to recognize both single and continuous human actions from monocular video sequences, based on 3D human modeling and cyclic hidden Markov models (CHMMs). First, for each frame in a monocular video sequence, the 3D coordinates of joints belonging to a human object, through actions of multiple cycles, are extracted using 3D human modeling techniques. The 3D coordinates are then converted into a set of geometrical relational features (GRFs) for dimensionality reduction and discrimination increase. For further dimensionality reduction, k-means clustering is applied to the GRFs to generate clustered feature vectors. These vectors are used to train CHMMs separately for different types of actions, based on the Baum-Welch re-estimation algorithm. For recognition of continuous actions that are concatenated from several distinct types of actions, a designed graphical model is used to systematically concatenate different separately trained CHMMs. The experimental results show the effective performance of our proposed system in both single and continuous action recognition problems.
