  • Seismic analyses of a pile under a large rigid basement foundation embedded in the homogeneous soil layer were performed practically by a response displacement method assuming a sinusoidal wave form. However, it is hard to take into account the characteristics of a large mat foundation and a heterogeneous soil layer with the response displacement method. The response displacement method is relevant to the 2D problems for longitudinal structures such as tunnel, underground cave structure, etc., but might not be relevant with isolated foundations for building structures. In this study, seismic pile analysis by a pseudo 3D finite element method was carried out to compare numerical results with results of the response displacement method considering 3D characteristics of a foundation-soil system which is important for the building foundation analyses. Study results show that seismic analyses results of a response displacement method are similar to those of a pseudo 3D numerical method for stiff and dense soil layers, but they are too conservative for a soft soil layer inducing large soil pressures on the foundation wall and large pile displacements due to ignored foundation rigidity and resistance.

  • This paper is concerned with the orthotropic problem of diaphragm-type air springs which consist of rubber linings, nylon reinforced rubber composite and bead ring. The analysis is carried out with a finite element method developed to consider the orthotropic properties, geometric nonlinearity using four-node degenerated shell element with reduced integration. Physical stabilization scheme is used to control the zeroenergy mode of the element. The analysis includes an inflation analysis and a lateral analysis of an air spring for the deformed shape and the spring load with respect to the vertical and l ateral deflection. Numerical results demonstrate the variation of the outer diameter, the fold height, the vertical force and the lateral force with respect to the inflation pressure and the lateral deflection.

  • This paper attempt to explore the shape of stress wave propagation of 3-dimensional stress field which in made in the process of the time increment. A finite element program about 3-dimensional stress wave propagation is developed for investigating the changing shape of the stress by the impact load. The finite element program, which is the solution for the 3-dimensional stress wave analysis, based on Galerkin and Newmark-${\beta}$ method at time increment step. The tensile stress and compressive stress become larger with the order of the middle , the upper and the opposite layers when the impact load is applied. In a while the shear stress become larger according to the order of the upper, the middle and the opposite layers when impact load applied.

  • A 3D magnetostatic field is analyzed considering the non-linear characteristics of the material using finite element method. In the finite element formulation, the edge element is adopted since it reduces the required computer memory and the computing time. The modified Newton-Raphson method is also used for non-linear analysis. A numerical example with the TEAM workshop problem 13 is analyzed, and the results are proved to concide well with measured ones.

  • In this paper, 3-D magnetostatic finite element simulation of a rotux type Low-Tc superconducing (LTS) superconducting power supply, finite element method, cryogenic system, superconducting foil by generated magnetic flux from the rotating pole. The magnetic flux density on the superconducting foil caused by two exciters is therefore sufficiently greater than its critical magnetic flux density and it is an essential point in LTS power supply design. To establish the sufficient flux path of this machine, ferromagnetic materials is used in this power supply. When ferromagnetic materials is used at extremely low temperature, its characteristic of magnetization differs to that at room temperature. For this reason, special consideration is needed in the magnetic analysis of cryogenic systems. When the excitation current is 10A, the normal spot appears on superconducting foil. The results of this analysis are calculated and compared with the experimental results. The linkage flux due to the excitation current of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50A are respectively $1.30{\times}10-4$, $2.67{\times}10-4$, $5.08{\times}10-4$ and $6.15{\times}10-4Wb$.

  • Based on an expanded mixed finite element method, we consider the semidiscrete approximations of the solution u of the quasilinear pseudo-parabolic equation defined on ${\Omega}{\subset}R^d$, $1{\leq}d{\leq}3$. We construct the semidiscrete approximations of ${\nabla}u$ and $a(u){\nabla}u+b(u){\nabla}u_t$ as well as u and prove the existence of the semidiscrete approximations. And also we prove the optimal convergence of ${\nabla}u$ and $a(u){\nabla}u+b(u){\nabla}u_t$ as well as u in $L^2$ normed space.

  • Although Equvalent Magnetic Circuit (EMC) method. Using lumped parameter and numerical analysis method are widely used for electric machine analysis. these are neither always accurate enough nor sometimes available to easily use. Moreover three dimensional finite element method (3D-FEM) is inherently unsuitable for electric machine performance evaluation due to its poor computational efficiency, such as too long calculation time and difficulty in modeling for analysis. In this paper, Nonlinear Equivalent Magnetic Circuit (NEMC) method in combination with 2D-FEM is proposed to analyze the electric machine requiring 3D-FEM, and this method applys to torque evaluation for rotary actuator of Electro Magnetic Electronic Controller Power Steering (EM-ECPS).

  • The purpose of this paper is characteristic analysis of multi-disk axial-gap pm motor for turbo compressor. The axial-gap permanent magnet motor has shown a growing interest in high-speed application for its high-efficiency, compact size and low vibration characteristics due to core-less structure. To achieve high-power, the axial-gap PM motor has multi-disk structure of stator and rotor disk. Because of its complicated magnetic flux path, it is not easy to calculate a dynamic characteristics using finite element analysis. In this paper, the simplified 2-D unfolded model to predict EMF characteristic is presented. To verify thesuggested 2-D unfolded model analysis of back-EMF characteristic was calculated and compared 3-D finite element. Finally the proposed method is verified by experimental results and shows good agreement with test results.

  • This paper describes a meshless of element-free method based on fuzzy knowledge processing. To efficiently simulate complicated physical phenomena with dynmics and non-linear ploblem using computational mechanics, special method is required such as parallel processing or adaptive analysis techniques. However, the conventional finite element method is too complicated to be employed in the above cases. In order to reduce the above complexity of the conventional finite element analysis systms, the so called meshles finite elements as an input information have been stuided. Node is generated if its distance form existing node points is similar to the node spacing fuction at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing Practical performances of the present system are demonstrated through several three-dimensional(3D) problems.
