  • This paper proposes a low-cost robotic surgery system composed of a general purpose robotic arm, an interface for daVinci surgical robot tools and a modular haptic controller utilizing smart actuators. The 7 degree of freedom (DOF) haptic controller is suspended in the air using the gravity compensation, and the 3D position and orientation of the controller endpoint is calculated from the joint readings and the forward kinematics of the haptic controller. Then the joint angles for a general purpose robotic arm is calculated using the analytic inverse kinematics so that that the tooltip reaches the target position through a small incision. Finally, the surgical tool wrist joints angles are calculated to make the tooltip correctly face the desired orientation. The suggested system is implemented and validated using the physical UR5e robotic arm.

  • This research has been focused upon and analyzing Medison, once a leading New Technology-Based Firm (NTBF) in Korea with exceptionally advanced technology in 3D ultrasound diagnostic imaging devices (UDIDs) (armored with 23 subsidiaries at its peak expansion), from the perspective if Dynamic Firm Capability(DFC). The underlying hypothesis is that the various problems from its pointless pursuit of the business styles or precedents of the existing large firms might be traced to its specific characteristics as an NTBF, which should have more preferably been based upon the distinctive competences such as differentiated technologies, institutional linkages, organizational routines, and complementary assets, etc. In conclusion, for the NTBFs with different DFC domains from those of the large firms, the optimal external linkages and comprehensive integration efforts (Process) under their specific organizational characteristics and constraints (Path) are highly recommended for the continuous accumulation of their core capabilities based upon the technological assets (Position).

  • In this paper, we propose a new view synthesis technique for coding of multi-view color and depth data in arbitrary camera arrangements. We treat each camera position as a 3-D point in world coordinates and build clusters of those vertices. Color and depth data within a cluster are gathered into one camera position using a hierarchical representation based on the concept of layered depth image (LDI). Since one camera can cover only a limited viewing range, we set multiple reference cameras so that multiple LDIs are generated to cover the whole viewing range. Therefore, we can enhance the visual quality of the reconstructed views from multiple LDIs comparing with that from a single LDI. From experimental results, the proposed scheme shows better coding performance under arbitrary camera configurations in terms of PSNR and subjective visual quality.

  • This paper describes a visual tracking control law of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) for monitoring of structures and maintenance of bridges. It presents a control law based on computer vision for quasi-stationary flights above a planar target. The first part of the UAV's mission is the navigation from an initial position to a final position to define a desired trajectory in an unknown 3D environment. The proposed method uses the homography matrix computed from the visual information and derives, using backstepping techniques, an adaptive nonlinear tracking control law allowing the effective tracking and depth estimation. The depth represents the desired distance separating the camera from the target.

  • A novel computational integral imaging technique with enhanced depth sensitivity is proposed. For each lateral position at a given depth plane, the dissimilarity between corresponding pixels of the elemental images is measured and used as a suppressing factor for that position. The intensity values are aggregated to determine the correct depth plane of each plane object. The experimental and simulation results show that the reconstructed depth image on the incorrect depth plane is effectively suppressed, and that the depth image on the correct depth plane is reconstructed clearly without any noise. The correct depth plane is also exactly determined.

  • In this study, small size stacker Crane for automatic ware house and interface circuit is designed and manufactured. IBM-PC is used as a controller. At 50kg$_{f}$ load, optimal motion velocity is 20 mm/min for X and Y axis and 12 mm/min for Z axis. Position fesolution is 0.005 mm and repeatability is .+-. 0.025 mm. Through characteristic experiment, effectiveness of the designed and manufactured stacker crane. PC control program, and design of interface circuit and construction of control system are shown. From these results, the developed stacker crane can be apply to FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) and FA(Factory Automation) of industrial field.d.

  • This paper presents position control of an electro-hydraulic servo system whoch is operated by four 2-2way high speed on-off valves with either PWM PID control method or sliding mode control method, The advantages of using high speed on-off valves instead of electo-hydraulic servo valves or electro-hydraulic proportional valves are low price robustness for oil contamination and direct control without a D/A converter. The system consists of load cylinder inertia car potentiometer and external load cylinder. The experiments were carried out under several conditions and the results were compared. As a result the sliding mode method has shown good control performance and the robust and stable positioning of the elector-hydraulic servo system can be achieved accurately.

  • A turbopump turbine consists of rotational part including a rotor and stationary part including nozzles and exit guide vanes, of which shape and relative position affect turbine performance owing to supersonic flows with prevailing unsteadiness. In this study, numerical 3-D flow calculations of the turbine with the different number of exit guide vanes and different relative position of each component are conducted and the effect of flow passage variations on turbine performance is analyzed.

  • In this research, using Terfenol-D actuator composed of magnetostrictive material as shaker and controller, active vibration control theory was applied and verified by experiments. PPF(positive Position Feedback) algorithm which is effective for the control of low frequency vibration was used for the control of a structure. Responses of inputs due to various design variable used for the PPF filter were observed. To investigate the characteristics of magnetostrictive materials, actuator responses were measured for known inputs and satisfactory results were obtained to reduce the vibration level after applying the control input for the actuator.

  • In this paper, an in-process diagnosis method for performance of position control servo system was studied, which was based upon null bias, slew-rate ratio and delay time measurement. Slew-rate ratio and delay time were analyzed by theoretical analysis, computer simulation and experiment. As a result of these analysis, when spool of servovalve was weared, slew-rate ratio was decreased and delay time was increased.
