Recently developed Computed Topography (CT) reconstruction algorithms are reviewed in a more generalized sense and a few reconstruction examples are given for illustration. The construction of an image function from the physically measured projections of some object is Discussed with reference to the least squares optimum filters, originally derived to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio in communications theory. The computerifed image processing associated with topography is generalized so as to include 3 distinct parts: the construction of an image from the projection, the restoration of a blurred, noisy image, degraded by a known space-invariant impulse response, and the further enhancement of the image, e.g. by edge sharpening. In conjunction with given versions of the popular convolution algorithm, n6t 19 be confused with filtering by a 2-diminsional convolution, we consider the conditions under which a concurrent construction, restoration, and enhancement are possible. Extensive bibliographical limits are given in the references.
3-dimensional Neuronavigator, Viewing Wand(ISG Technologies, Toronto, Cannda) is the surgery aid equipment for real time image (CT or MRI) guided surgery. The assurance of spatial accuracy of this system is important for clinical application. In this study, we have designed the acrylic brain phantom and measured the spatial error with that phantom. The phantom has designed to have capability to simulate image guided surgery. The phantom has 22 vertical rods whose diameters are 5mm and each rods has different length. CT scans were performed by 2.0mm slice and reconstructed for 3-Dimensional analysis. End point of rods can be obtained using reconstructed 3- Dimensional images and they are compared to actual position data. Average deviation was less than 2mm for various situations. Spatial error of Viewing Wand is acceptable in the clinical points of view, while cosmetics of the software needs to be modified to more user friend. Better accuracy can be expected when we apply the mixed fiducial fit registration and surface fit registration method. And even better results can be obtained if registration points distributed even and symetric around the target.
Objectives : Getting full information from axial CT images needs experiences and knowledge. Sagittal and coronal images could give more information but we have to draw 3-dimensional images in mind with above informations. With aid of 3D reconstruction softwares, CT data are converted to visible 3D images. We tried to compare medical photographs of 15 surgical specimens from neck tumors with 3D reconstructed images of same patients. Material and Methods : Fifteen patients with neck tumors treated surgically were recruited. Medical photograph of the surgical specimens were collected for comparison. 3D reconstruction of neck CT from same patients with aid of 3D-doctor software gave 3D images of neck masses. Width and height of tumors of each photos and images from the same cases were calculated and compared statistically. Visual similarities were rated between photos and 3D images. Results : No statatistical difference were found in size between medical photos and 3D images. Visual similarity score were higher between 2 groups of images. Conclusion : 3D reconstructed images of neck mass looked alike the real photographs of excised neck mass with similar calculated sizes. It could give us reliable visual information about the mass.
An abdominal aortic aneurysm occurs most commonly in older individuals (between 65 and 75), and more in men and smokers. The most important complication of an abdominal aortic aneurysm is rupture, which is most often a fatal event. An abdominal aortic aneurysm weakens the walls of the blood vessel, leaving it vulnerable to bursting open, or rupturing, and spilling large amounts of blood into the abdominal cavity. surface modeling is very useful to surgery for quantitative analysis of abdominal aortic aneurysm. the 3D representation and surface modeling an abdominal aortic aneurysm structure taken from Multi Detector Computed Tomography. The construction of the 3D model is generally carried out by staking the contours obtained from 2D segmentation of each CT slice, so the quality of the 3D model strongly defends on the precision of segmentation process. In this work we present deformable model algorithm. deformable model is an energy-minimizing spline guided by external constraint force. External force which we call Gradient Vector Flow, is computed as a diffusion of a gradient vectors of gray level or binary edge map derived from the image. Finally, we have used snakes successfully for abdominal aortic aneurysm segmentation the performance of snake was visually and quantitatively validated by experts.

In the present study, we developed the 4D CT data generation program from CAD-based models. To evaluate the developed program, a CAD-based respiratory motion phantom was designed using CAD software, and converted into 4D CT dataset, which include 10 phases of 3D CTs. The generated 4D CT dataset was evaluated its effectiveness and accuracy through the implementation in radiation therapy planning system (RTPS). Consequently, the results show that the generated 4D CT dataset can be successfully implemented in RTPS, and targets in all phases of 4D CT dataset were moved well according to the user parameters (10 mm) with its stationarily volume (8.8 cc). The developed program, unlike real 4D CT scanner, due to the its ability to make a gold-standard dataset without any artifacts constructed by modality's movements, we believe that this program will be used when the motion effect is important, such as 4D radiation treatment planning and 4D radiation imaging.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare landmark position between cephalometric radiography and midsagittal plane projected images from 3 dimensional (3D) CT. Methods: Cephalometric radiographs and CT scans were taken from 20 patients for treatment of mandibular prognathism. After selection of land-marks, CT images were projected to the midsagittal plane and magnified to 110% according to the magnifying power of radiographs. These 2 images were superimposed with frontal and occipital bone. Common coordinate system was established on the base of FH plane. The coordinate value of each landmark was compared by paired t test and mean and standard deviation of difference was calculated. Results: The difference was from $-0.14{\pm}0.65$ to $-2.12{\pm}2.89\;mm$ in X axis, from $0.34{\pm}0.78$ to $-2.36{\pm}2.55\;mm$ ($6.79{\pm}3.04\;mm$) in Y axis. There was no significant difference only 9 in X axis, and 7 in Y axis out of 20 landmarks. This might be caused by error from the difference of head positioning, by masking the subtle end structures, identification error from the superimposition and error from the different definition.

Conventional CT and MRI scans produce cross-section slices of body that are viewed sequentially by radiologists who must imagine or extrapolate from these views what the 3 dimensional anatomy should be. By using sophisticated algorithm and high performance computing, these cross-sections may be rendered as direct 3D representations of human anatomy. The 2D medical image analysis forced to use time-consuming, subjective, error-prone manual techniques, such as slice tracing and region painting, for extracting regions of interest. To overcome the drawbacks of 2D medical image analysis, combining with medical image processing, 3D visualization is essential for extracting anatomical structures and making measurements. We used the gray-level thresholding, region growing, contour following, deformable model to segment human organ and used the feature vectors from texture analysis to detect harmful cancer. We used the perspective projection and marching cube algorithm to render the surface from volumetric MR and CT image data. The 3D visualization of human anatomy and segmented human organ provides valuable benefits for radiation treatment planning, surgical planning, surgery simulation, image guided surgery and interventional imaging applications.
