  • In this study, carbon-coated porous nanofibers were prepared via electrospinning and the performance of Li[Ni0.93Co0.07]O2 (NC) synthesized by electrospinning (E-NC) and co-precipitation (C-NC) was compared. E-NC had a discharge capacity of 206 mAh g-1 at 0.1C (17 mA/g), which is 10% higher than that of C-NC (189.2 mAh g-1). E-NC shows a high-rate performance of 118.32 mAh g-1 (61.7%) at 5C (850 mA/g), which is 50% higher than that of C-NC (78.22 mAh g-1 = 45.7%). Charge transfer of the carbon-coated porous nanofiber E-NC decreased by 35% compared to C-NC after 20 cycles as observed using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results of this study show that the nanofiber structure with carbon coating shortens the Li-ion diffusion path, improves electrical conductivity, resulting in excellent rate performance.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the method validation for the determination of eleutherosides (B and E) and ${\beta}$-glucan in Acanthopanax (A.) koreanum. This medicinal plant reportedly mainly included eleutherosides which exhibit the pharmacological effects, and ${\beta}$-glucan substantially enhances the function of the immune system by activating macrophages. The specificity, linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD, S/N=3), and limit of quantification (LOQ, S/N=10) were measured by HPLC and enzymatic methods. Our results showed that the coefficient of calibration correlation ($R^2$) for eleutheroside B and E were 0.9997 and 0.9999, respectively. The limits of detection (LOD) for eleutheroside B and E were $0.050{\mu}g/mL$ and $0.025{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The recovery rate of eleutheroside B and E were revealed in the high range of 100.66~110.04% and 94.26~111.62%, respectively. The inter-day precision of eleutheroside B and E in the root and stem in A. koreanum were 1.4~5.0% and 1.1~2.5%, respectively. The intra-day precision of eleutheroside B and E in the root and stem in A. koreanum were 2.8~2.9% and 0.4~1.1%, respectively. Furthermore, the inter-day and intra-day precision of ${\beta}$-glucan in the stem, leaf, and fruit of A. koreanum were 1.32~5.67% and 8.01~11.76%, respectively. In conclusion, the methods were validated for the detection of eleutherosides and ${\beta}$-glucan in A. koreanum.

  • This experiment was conducted with pot trial to evaluate effects of pretilachlor [2-chloro-2', 6'-diethyl-N(n-propoxythyl) acetanilide], pyrazoxyfen [ 1,3-dimethyl-4-(2,4-dichloro benzoyl)-5-phenacyloxy-pyrazole], pyrazolate (4-(2,4-dichloro benzoyl)-1,3-dimethyl-pyrazol-5-yl-p-toluenesulphonate] and their combinations on Echinochloa crew-galli. Herbicides were treated with different dosages under 3 cm water depth at 1st and 2nd leaf stages of E. crus-galli. E. crus-galli showed stunted symptom by treatment of pretilachlor and etiolation by treatment of pyrazoxyfen or pyrazolate after 4 days from treatment. Stunting and chlorosis degrees of E. crusgalli increased with high dosage of all herbicides at lst and 2nd leaf stage. Combination of pyrazoxyfen+pretilachlor (6+1.5)G or pyrazolate+pretilachlor (6+1.5)G showed positive synergistic effect of herbicidal action on E. crus-galli, therefore these combinations can control E. crux galli in paddy field with lower dosage than each single treatment of herbicides. Herbicidal effect of pyrazoxyfen on E. crus-galli was similar to pyrazolate in single treatment and combination with pretilachlor.

  • In this study, the biochemical role of genetic polymorphism in modulating urinary excretion of benzene metabolite as phenol level has been investigated in 90 workers exposed to benzene in the petroleum refinery plant of Korea. The mean concentration of volatile benzene in the refinery environment was 0.042 mg/㎥ (SD, 0.069) and that of urinary phenol was 7.42 mg/g creatinine (SD, 11.3). The frequencies of CYP2E1 genotypes, namely CYP2E1$^*1$/$^*1$, CYP2E1$^*1$/$^*2$ and CYP2E1$^*2$/$^*2$ were 2.2% (2 subjects), 6.7% (G subjects) and 91.1% (85 subjects), respectively, and allele frequencies for CYP2E1$^*1$ and CYP2E1$^*2$ were 0.06 and 0.94. The airborne benzene concentration was significantly related to the concentration of phenol in urine (r = 0.640, p < 0.01). The urinary phenol level was significantly correlated with CYP2E1$^*2$/$^*2$ (r = 0.590, p < 0.05). The various biological (i.e. age and liver function parameters) or lifestyle factors (i.e. medication, smoking, alcohol and coffee intake), also taken into account as potential confounders, did not influence the correlation found. These results suggested that CYP2E1 genotypes might play an important role in the metabolism of benzene.

  • In order to investigate the vitamin I intake of exclusively breast-fed infants, we examined 33 lactating women and their infants at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 months of lactation. Vitamin E contents of human milk were determined by HPLC analysis. Vitamin E contents of the milk showed 539, 520, 464, 422, 409 and 351$\mu\textrm{g}$/100m1 during the lactation respectively. Vitamin E contents of the human milk were not affected by energy, lipid and protein consumption of lactating women. Vitamin E intake of breast-fed infants averaged 3375 and 269$\mu\textrm{g}$/day in boys and girls during the first 5 months of lactation. Vitamin E intake per body weight of breast-fed infants appeared 725, 752, 600, 461, 420 and 334$\mu\textrm{g}$/kg/day respectively. We conclude that breast-fed infants most likely receives adequate vitamin E from the human milk compared with recommended dietary allowances for Korean infants. • In the present article, we construct the exact traveling wave solutions of nonlinear PDEs in the mathematical physics via the (1+1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation by using the following two methods: (i) A further improved ($\frac{G}{G}$) - expansion method, where $G=G({\xi})$ satisfies the auxiliary ordinary differential equation $[G^{\prime}({\xi})]^2=aG^2({\xi})+bG^4({\xi})+cG^6({\xi})$, where ${\xi}=x-Vt$ while $a$, $b$, $c$ and $V$ are constants. (ii) The well known extended tanh-function method. We show that some of the exact solutions obtained by these two methods are equivalent. Note that the first method (i) has not been used by anyone before which gives more exact solutions than the second method (ii).

  • Let α be a complex number with 𝕽α > 0. Let the functions f and g be analytic in the unit disc E = {z : |z| < 1} and normalized by the conditions f(0) = g(0) = 0, f'(0) = g'(0) = 1. In the present article, we study the differential subordinations of the forms $${\alpha}{\frac{z^2f^{{\prime}{\prime}}(z)}{f(z)}}+{\frac{zf^{\prime}(z)}{f(z)}}{\prec}{\alpha}{\frac{z^2g^{{\prime}{\prime}}(z)}{g(z)}}+{\frac{zg^{\prime}(z)}{g(z)}},\;z{\in}E,$$ and $${\frac{z^2f^{{\prime}{\prime}}(z)}{f(z)}}{\prec}{\frac{z^2g^{{\prime}{\prime}}(z)}{g(z)}},\;z{\in}E.$$ As consequences, we obtain a number of sufficient conditions for star likeness of analytic maps in the unit disc. Here, the symbol ' ${\prec}$ ' stands for subordination
