  • This paper presents the 2-bit parallel algorithmic ADC using current mode for parallel method algorithm. It is operated by parallel conversion, 2-bit at each moment, and increase bit numbers by serial connection. The circuit operates in current mode. The comparison ratio can be controlled while working under mode operation. The circuit design used 0.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology which capable to convert 2-bit in 50 ns, power consumed 0.786 nW, with input current 0-50 mA from 3V single supply. From simulation testing, the conversion rate is much faster than other method.

  • In this paper, an 8bit CMOS low power, high-speed current-mode folding and interpolation A/D converter is designed with te LG semicon $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$ N-well single-poly/double-metal CMOS process to be integrated into a portable image signal processing system such as a digital camcoder. For good linearity and low power consumption, folding amplifiers and for high speed performance of the A/D converter, analog circuitries including folding block, current-mode interpolation circuit and current comparator are designed as a differential-mode. The fabricated 8 bit A/D converter occupies the active chip area of TEX>$2.2mm \times 1.6mm$ and shows DNL of $\pm0.2LSB$, INL of <$\pm0.5LSB$, conversion rate of 40M samples/s, and the measured maximum power dissipation of 33.6mW at single +5V supply voltage.

Low-frequency Ultrasound Enhanced Transdermal Drug Delivery Across Rat Skin

  • The primary aim of this study was to investigate the enhancement effect of low-frequency ultrasound on skin permeation. In vitro permeation experiments were performed using Franz modified diffusion cells with ketoprofen as model drug. The effect of various ultrasound factors-ultrasound application mode (continuous mode and discontinuous mode), ultrasound intensity (0.26 $W/cm^2$, and 0.29 $W/cm^2$) and duty cycle (3%, 16%, 50%, and 83%) were studied. The highest permeation was observed at 0.29 $W/cm^2$ intensity, 50% duty cycle, and discontinuous mode. The result suggested the feasibility of low frequency ultrasound application for the phonophoretic transdermal drug delivery system.

HEVC에서 후보 모드 표를 이용한 화면내 모드 부호화 (Intra Mode Coding using Candidate Mode Table in HEVC)

  • 본 논문에서는 후보 모드표를 이용한 새로운 화면내 모드 부호화 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 HEVC는 예측한 최고확률모드(most probable mode, MPM)가 현재 블록의 실제 모드와 동일하지 않을 경우 고정길이 부호(fixed length code, FLC)를 이용해 실제 모드 정보를 이진화한다. 하지만 HEVC는 화면내 블록은 많은 수의 모드를 사용하기 때문에 FLC를 이용해 이진화를 하면 코드워드의 길이가 길어진다. 본 논문에서는 예측한 MPM이 실제 모드와 동일하지 않은 경우 인접한 블록을 통해 생성한 후보 모드표를 이용해 부호화할 인덱스를 얻고, 이를 FLC 대신 통계적 특성을 고려한 Golomb-Rice 코드를 이용해 이진화하는 방법을 제안한다. 실험을 통해 제안한 방법이 기존의 HEVC 화면내 모드 부호화 방법에 비해 평균 약 0.5%의 비트 수를 감소시키는 것을 확인했다.

  • 광섬유의 클래딩을 갈아내고 코어 가까이에 알루미늄 박막을 증착하여 표면 플라즈몬으로의 편광 선택적인 모드 결합 원리를 이용하는 광섬유 편광기를 제작하였다. 633nm, 830nm, $1.3\mu\textrm{m}$의 단일 모드 광섬유를 사용하여 알루미늄 박막의 두께를 달리하며 소광률과 삽입손실을 측정한 결과 대부분의 샘플에서 30dB 이상의 소광률을 얻을 수 있었으며 삽입손실은 0.2dB 에서 1.5dB 사이였다.

A High Birefringent Polymer Terahertz Waveguide: Suspended Elliptical Core Fiber

  • A novel high birefringent polymer terahertz (THz) fiber with a suspended elliptical core is proposed in this paper. The introduction of an elliptical core can enhance asymmetry to realize high mode birefringence, and a large porous outer cladding effectively isolates the core-guided mode from interacting with the surrounding environment. A full-vector finite element method(FEM) is used to analyze the characteristics of the THz fiber. Simulation results show that the suspended elliptical fiber exhibits high mode birefringence on a level of $10^{-2}$ over a wide frequency range, and an extremely large mode birefringence(${\approx}0.06226$) is obtained when ellipticity is 0.2. Moreover, a suspended hollow elliptical core fiber is also discussed for the purpose of lower loss, however high mode birefringence and low relative absorption loss can not coexist in such a kind of fiber.

Vibration-Rotation Coupling in a Quasilinear Symmetric Triatomic Molecule

  • The effect of the vibration mode coupling induced by the vibration-rotation interaction on total energy was investigated for the states with zero total angular momentum(J=0) in a quasilinear symmetric triatomic molecule of $AB_2$ type using a model potential function with a slight potential barrier to linearity. It is found that the coupling energy becomes larger for the levels of bend and asymmetric stretch modes and smaller for symmetric stretch mode as the excitation of the vibrational modes occurs. The results for the real molecule of $CH_2^+$, which is quasilinear, generally agree with the results for the model potential function in that common mode selective dependence of coupling energy is exhibited in both cases. The differences between the results for the model and real potential function in H-C-H system are analyzed and explained in terms of heavy mixing of the symmetric stretch and bend mode in excited vibrational states of the real molecule of $CH_2^+$. It is shown that the vibrational mode coupling in the potential energy function is primarily responsible for the broken nodal structure and chaotic behavior in highly excited levels of $CH_2^+$ for J= 0.

H.264 표준에서 양자화 계수를 고려한 고속 인터모드 결정 방법 (A Fast Inter Mode Decision Algorithm Considering Quantization Parameter in H.264)

  • 최근에 만들어진 비디오 압축 표준인 H.264는 매크로블록당 최적의 부호화 모드를 결정하기 위해 비트율-왜곡 (rate-distortion) 기법을 사용하지만, 그 복잡성으로 인해 부호화하는 데 많은 시간이 걸린다. 따라서, H.264의 부호화 시간을 단축하기 위해 고속 모드결정 방법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 양자화 계수에 따라 발생 모드가 변하는 특성에 기반하여 불필요한 움직임 예측 및 모드결정 과정을 생략하는 새로운 고속 모드결정 방법을 제안한다. 양자화 계수에 따라 최적모드의 발생 빈도가 변하게 되는데, 제안한 방법에서는 매크로블록의 양자화된 이산 여현변환 계수들이 모두 0일 때, 0의 값을 가지는 CBP(coded block pattern)를 고려하여 이러한 특성을 반영하며, 조기 SKIP 모드 결정방법과 조기 $16{\times}16$ 모드 결정방법을 이용한다. 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통해, 본 논문에서 제안한 고속 인터모드 결정방법이 H.264의 참조 소프트웨어에 구현된 고속 인터모드 결정방법에 비해, Baseline 프로파일의 경우 19.6%, Main 프로파일의 경우 18.8%의 부호화 시간을 감소시키는 것을 확인했다.

Current-Mode Electronically Tunable Universal Filter Using Only Plus-Type Current Controlled Conveyors and Grounded Capacitors

  • In this paper we present a new current-mode electronically tunable universal filter using only plus-type current controlled conveyors (CCCII+s) and grounded capacitors. The proposed circuit can simultaneously realize lowpass, bandpass, and highpass filter functions - all at high impedance outputs. The realization of a notch response does not require additional active elements. The circuit enjoys an independent current control of parameters $\omega_0$ and $\omega_0/Q$. No element matching conditions are imposed. Both its active and passive sensitivities are low.
