  • This study proposed the new pressing method under heat for the plastic automotive interior part in order to make embossing on the skin of the raw material of the part. The raw material is laid on the lower mold and it is pressed by the upper one with embossing shape. The air is suctioned from the inside of both molds for producing tension and making embossing shapes on the skin of the part without its breakage. The corresponding molds and test machines are made and the proposed manufacturing process is validated.

  • In order to investigate efficiency and flowfield charateristics of the intake-diffuser for the ship waterjet propulsion, new experimental verification technology was set up in the cavitation tunnel. 1-hole and 5-hole pilot tubes were designed and manufactured to measure the pressure and velocity distributions at intake-diffuser entrance and impeller inlet. The calibration of the 5-hole pilot tubes is conducted at the cavitation tunnel The cavitation inception occurs at the intake lip, and the occurrence position depends on IVR (Inlet Velocity Ratio) condition. The present experimental device will be applied sufficiently for the development of the design and performance improvement technologies.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to figure out the effects of the inlet air temperature on the combustion efficiency using the fuel grains which were highly loaded with boron carbide. The results showed that the normalized combustion efficiency increased with the inlet air temperature, apparently the result of enhanced combustion of the boron particles. Even though the combustion efficiency is increased, the overall efficiency through the semi-empirical method, is decreased with the increasing inlet air temperature. Brayton cycle analysis has been performed using the heat input parameter and combustor Mach number, those two parameters are important role for the performance and similar trends are shown at the experimental results.

  • Ejector system are used to transport a low momentum flow to the higher pressure flow by the momentum change between high and low momentum flows. This system is used to simulate the high altitude and Mach number condition over altitude 20 km and Mach 4 of the supersonic test facility. We applied the design and the performance analysis technique(EISIMP code) of the Ramjet Test Facility(RJTF) air system in JAXA to the ejector system of the ramjet test facility in KARI. After preliminary design of the ejector system, we performed a computational study using FLUENT and investigated shock structures and flow characteristics of the ejector system.

  • The fuel pump mounted on the engine in the vehicle is consist of the outer and inter rotors, and which inhales fuel from the inlet port and supplies it to the outlet port. In this study, it is carried out the analysis and test of the fuel pump with rotors to evaluate its performance. It is analyzed the flow characteristics of the fuel pumps with numerical simulation in their inlet-outlet angles of 0, 15, 30 degree. After it is determined whether it has the best flow characteristics, its vibration characteristics is analyzed. The flow rate of a pump in the inlet-outlet angles of 0 degree is 191.0 LPH(Liter per hour) which is the largest. and its vibration is calculated to be 0.866 $^m/s^2$. In the results of vibration test, it is known that the vibration of the research pump is smaller than that of the existing one. And the natural frequencies of two pumps is nearly same. Therefore it is known that the performance of the research pump is superior.

  • Experimental and computational studies on a turbopump inducer with and without a bearing strut were performed to evaluate the effects of a strut on the performance of an inducer. Head rise, efficiency and surface static pressures were measured and compared with computational results. Generally a good agreement is observed between experimental and computational results, but some discrepancies are observed due to complex flow features such as backflows at the inlet and strut/inducer interactions. For the flow rates where the backflow region is large, installing a strut enhanced the hydraulic performance of the inducer by diminishing the size of the backflows. The results also show that the strut has negligible effect on the suction performance of the inducer.

  • At the early stage of the development of high speed propulsion systems, the designers suffer from the lack of both the quantity and the quality of test data. In that situation, the associated uncertainties could not be modeled as probabilistic distribution since probabilistic modelling requires large amount of data. In this paper, instead, the information provided by experts based on their experience and engineering knowledge was used to model uncertainty using the evidence theory. In designing the DCR(Dual Combustion Ramjet) engine, the combustion efficiencies, not well understood and little data existing, are assumed to have been provided by experts. And the uncertainties are quantified by Evidence theory. The quantified uncertainties are incorporated into the optimization. The design variables, area of inlet and area of combustor exit, have been found while satisfying reliability margins of thrust and thermal choking. The results show a reasonable design of the engine under the uncertain circumstances.

  • Ejector system can induce the secondary flow or affect the secondary chamber pressure by both shear stress and pressure drop which are generated in the primary jet boundary. Ejectors are widely used in a range of applications such as a turbine-based combined-cycle propulsion system and a high altitude test facility for rocket engine, pressure recovery system, desalination plant and ejector ramjet etc. The primary interest of this study is to set up an configuration and operating conditions for an ejector in the condition of sonic and subsonic. Experimental and theoretical investigation on the sonic and subsonic ejectors with a converging-diverging diffuser was carried out. Numerical simulation was adopted for an optimal geometry design and satisfying the required performance. Also, some ejectors with a various of nozzle throat and mixing chamber diameter were manufactured precisely and tested for the comparison with the calculation results.

  • This study conducted Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB), which is a type of field performance evaluation experiment of a zone smoke-control system, at a railway underground transit passage installed with a zone smoke- control system to find problems and improvements for ensuring performance. TAB for the smoke control system was classified into several procedures, such as design data review, duct leakage test, field measurement of the airflow rate, velocity of the fan and duct, and a smoke test. Through the duct leakage test, the system leakage ratio was examined to prove the duct sealing. The iImprovement of the smoke control airflow problems due to the lack of fan static pressure loss was the secured performance. The performance of the smoke control fan was secured by improvements of the smoke control airflow rate problems caused by the loss of static pressure in the intake duct. The smoke test in the smoke control zone confirmed that the damper operating schedule subject was influenced by natural wind or train wind.

  • Contaminated sediments are the actual cause for deterioration of coastal-ecosystem. So the developed countries have been in the process of making an effort to develop new techniques for monitoring and solving this problem since 1960. In this research, suction type pump dredging system of pilot size for collecting the filth from the seabed has been designed and manufactured that can prevent or minimize the secondary pollution by filth diffusion. For the practical use, the application possibility of the developed system has been checked through a system performance test. And, the evaluation of system performance according to the underwater body type has been carried out for system optimization by using CFD. The performance tests for checking the efficiency of sediment collecting system are done under two conditions i.e. when the system is non-operational and when the system is self-propelled. The results of this research showed the possibility of the development of dredging system to remove just the upper parts of filth from seabed.
