A Life Browser based on Probabilistic and Semantic Networks for Visualization and Retrieval of Everyday-Life (일상생활 시각화와 검색을 위한 확률망과 의미망 기반 라이프 브라우저)

  • Recently, diverse information which are location, call history, SMS history, photographs, and video can be collected constantly from mobile devices such as cellular phone, smart phone, and PDA. There are many researchers who study services for searching and abstraction of personal daily life with contextual information in mobile environment. In this paper, we introduce MyLifeBrowser which is developed in our previous work. Also, we explain LPS and correction of GPS coordinates as extensions of previous work and show LPS performance test and evaluate the performance of expanded keywords. MyLifeBrowser which provides searching personal information in mobile device and support of detecting related information according to a fragmentary keyword and common knowledge in ConceptNet. It supports the functionality of searching related locations using Bayesian network that is designed by the authors. In our experiment, we visualize real data through MyLifeBrowser and show the feasibility of LPS server and expanded keywords using both Bayesian network and ConceptNet.

Context-aware Mobile system for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (보완대체 의사소통도구를 위한 상황인식 모바일 시스템)

  • Augmentative and alternative communication(AAC) is a communication tool for those with impairments or restrictions on the production or comprehension of spoken language. Traditional AAC has used a portable board with pictures and texts with which disabled person could be supported by it. Currently, smart phone based AAC researches and developments are actively studying. With emerging concepts of context-aware computing, the mobile devices can provide mobile users with timely information and location based services. We proposed a adjustable AAC system for disabled people of which has variable layouts and selectable items. We also implemented context-ware application for AAC systems including time, location and click count informations on smart phone. The system can adaptively change its layout and select AAC items depending on various situation of disabled persons.

Secure Deletion for Flash Memory File System (플래시메모리 파일시스템을 위한 안전한 파일 삭제 기법)

  • Personal mobile devices equipped with non-volatile storage such as MP3 player, PMP, cellular phone, and USB memory require safety for the stored data on the devices. One of the safety requirements is secure deletion, which is removing stored data completely so that the data can not be restored illegally. In this paper, we study how to design the secure deletion on Flash memory, commonly used as storage media for mobile devices. We consider two possible secure deletion policy, named zero-overwrite and garbage-collection respectively, and analyze how each policy affects the performance of Flash memory file systems. Then, we propose an adaptive file deletion scheme that exploits the merits of the two possible policies. Specifically, the proposed scheme applies the zero-overwrite policy for small files, whereas it employs the garbage-collection policy for large files. Real implementation experiments show that the scheme is not only secure but also efficient.

A Study of Privacy Protection Awareness of Mobile Phone Users (휴대폰 사용자의 개인정보 보호 의식 연구)

  • Adoption of wireless communication facilities in mobile devices leads to increased vulnerability in individual privacy. One of such cases was discovered when a smart mobile phone of Paris Hilton at Oscar Award Ceremony was hacked a Swedish group of hackers. In this study, I wondered what sort of personal information could be exposed to hackers in such cases. In the course of survey, it was recognized that technical analysis of flash memory in mobile devices to check what kinds of data are stored there is technically almost impossible, since they are usually built in a proprietary manner. No generic tools could apply to discover their contents. Having recognized technical difficulties, it was inevitable to resort to a questionnaire survey to see awareness level with regard to personal privacy. We collected response from three hundred respondents by posting the questionnaire at World Survey on-line research site. What we have discovered was quite astonishing that even personal residence registration numbers have been found from nine of every ten respondents. Other data revealed include phone numbers, names, and personal bank accounts.

  • Today's portable electric consumer devices, which are operated by battery, tend to integrate more multimedia processing capabilities. In the multimedia processing devices, multimedia system-on-chips can handle specific algorithms which need intensive processing capabilities and significant power consumption. As a result, the power-efficiency of multimedia processing devices becomes important increasingly. In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable data caching architecture, in which data allocation is constrained by software support, and evaluate its performance and power efficiency. Comparing with conventional cache architectures, power consumption can be reduced significantly, while miss rate of the proposed architecture is very similar to that of the conventional caches. The reduction of power consumption for the reconfigurable data cache architecture shows 33.2%, 53.3%, and 70.4%, when compared with direct-mapped, 2-way, and 4-way caches respectively.

  • This study is research of actual proof on verification of the user's utility about mobile convergence products and the types of convergence categorize into four types according to their characteristics. Four types of convergence; (1)Open service via scalable internet, (2)Close service dependent on mobile phones, (3)Broadcast services such as DMB, (4)Individual products such as camera based on digital technology. The purpose of research model is to identify differences in effect value of the types of mobile convergence according to its usage level and level of quality. As the result of this study, Usage level of open service/individual products had a significant effect on the user's utility about mobile convergence products, Also Level of quality of open service had a significant effect.

  • 정보화 사회가 진행되어감에 따라 카메라 센서, 디지털 카메라, 휴대폰, 영상 관련디지털 기기들이 증가하고 이로 인하여 영상정보 서비스 기술의 중요성이 크게 부각되었다. 특히 멀티미디어 응용서비스 기술에서는 영상 정보가 필수적인데, 그 영상 정보의 양이 너무 방대하여 압축 부호화를 하여 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 정지영상압축 방법 중 JPEG표준에서 제시한 4가지 동작 모드 중 베이스라인을 기반으로 하는 JPEG 알고리즘을 연구하여 허프만코팅 기반의 엔트로피 디코더의 불규칙적인 데이터 입출력타이밍의 효과적인 제어를 통해 Motion JPEG에서 동작 가능한 디코더를 C언어를 통해 시뮬레이션하고 최적화된 결과를 VHDL로 구현하였다.

  • 정보화 사회가 진행되어감에 따라 카메라 센서, 디지털 카메라, 휴대폰, 영상 관련디지털 기기들이 증가하고 이로 인하여 영상정보 서비스 기술의 중요성이 크게 부각되었다. 특히 멀티미디어 응용서비스 기술에서는 영상 정보가 필수적인데, 그 영상 정보의 양이 너무 방대하여 압축 부호화를 하여 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 정지영상압축 방법 중 JPEG표준에서 제시한 4가지 동작 모드 중 베이스라인을 기반으로 하는 JPEG압축 알고리즘을 연구하여 CMOS 이미지 센서에서 영상을 전송받으면 8*8 블록 단위로 변환 후 DCT 및 양자화 과정을 거쳐 지그재그 스캔을 한 후 허프만 코드를 사용하여 압축 부호화 시키는 JPEG 베이스라인 인코더를 VHDL언어로 설계하였다.

  • W3C(World Wide Web Consortium)는 2007년 상반기부터 웹 기술을 PC를 넘어 휴대폰, PDA, 정보가전, 로봇 등 모든 디바이스로 적용이 확대하기 위해 유비쿼터스 웹 응용을 위한 표준 개발을 시작하였다. 이를 담당하고 있는 유비쿼터스 웹 응용 워킹그룹은 탁상용 컴퓨터뿐 아니라 사무용품, 가정 매체 기구, 이동 전화, RFID나 바코드를 포함하는 센서나 이펙터(effector) 등의 유비쿼터스 기기들이 다양하게 흩어져 있는 환경에서 쉽게 웹 응용 개발을 가능하게 하는 표준 개발을 목표로 한다. 본 워킹그룹의 활동의 중요한 표준화 아이템 중의 하나는 Delivery Context: Client Interfaces(DCCI)로 이는 다양한 디바이스들의 기능들의 접근을 위한 표준 인터페이스를 정의하는 것이다. DCCI가 중요한 이유는 현재 웹 환경에서 오픈 API를 이용하여 개발되고 있는 다양한 매쉬업 응용에 GPS와 같은 단말을 기능을 매쉬업을 제공할 수 있는 기반이 되기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 최근에 W3C의 UWA(Ubiquitous Web Application) WG에서 추진되고 있는 DCCI에 대한 표준화 동향을 설명한다.

WiBro 유무선통합커뮤니케이션 서비스는 WiBro 뿐만 아니라 유선 초고속 인터넷, 무선랜 등 통합 환경에서 메신저, 영상대화, MMS, e-메일 등 다양한 커뮤니케이션 서비스를 제공하는 서비스로 언제 어디서나 사용자가 상대방과 연결될 수 있는 유비쿼터스 커뮤니케이션을 제공한다. 다양한 단말, 장비기기들 및 사업자간의 상호 운용이 가능하도록 IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) 아키텍처를 기반으로 SIP 표준 프로토콜을 사용하여 구축되었으며 IP 커뮤니케이션을 중심으로 다양한 응용서비스 연동 및 제공이 가능하다.
