An Analysis of the 8th Grade Probability Curriculum in Accordance with the Distribution Concepts (분포 개념의 연계성 목표 관점에 따른 중학교 확률 단원 분석)

  • It has long been of controversy what the meanings of probability is. And a century has past after the mathematical probability has been at the center of the school curriculum of it. Recently statistical meaning of probability becomes important for various reasons. However the simple modification of its definition is not enough. The computational reasoning of the probability and its practical application needs didactical changes and new instructional transformations along with the modification of it. Most of the current text books introduce probability as a limit of the relative frequencies, a statistical probability. But when the probability computation of the union of two events, or of the simultaneous events is faced on, they use mathematical probability for explanation and practices. Accordingly there is a gap for students in understanding those. Probability is an intuitive concept as far as it belongs to the domain of the experiential frequency. And frequency distribution must be the instructional bases for the (statistical) probability novices. This is what we mean by the probability in accordance with the distribution concepts. First of all, in order to explain the probability of the complementary event we should explain the empirical relative frequency of it first. These are the case for the union of two events and for the simultaneous events. Moreover we need to provide a logic of probabilistic guesses, inferences and decision, which we introduce with the name “the likelihood principle”, the most famous statistical principle. We emphasized this be done through the problems of practical decision making.

  • 이 논문에서는 웹 기반의 하이퍼미디어 교육시스템에서 이산 확률 분포 함수와 사용자 프로파일 기반의 동적 적응 모델을 제안하였다. 이 모델은 응용 영역을 동적 적응 객체의 가중치 방향성 그래프로 표현하며 사용자 행위를 이산 확률 함수를 동적으로 구축하는 접근 방식을 이용하여 모델링 한다. 제안한 확률적 해석은 웹 미디어 구조에서 사용자의 탐색 행위를 추적하여 사용자 행위에 대한 잠재적 속성을 나타내는데 사용될 수 있다. 이러한 접근 방식은 사용자에게 가장 알맞은 프로파일을 동적으로 할당할 수 있다.

  • With advancement of computer and network, world wide web(WWW) as medium of information communication is generalized in many fields. In educational aspect, applications of WWW as alternative media for class teaching or printed matter are increasing. In this article, we demonstrate a web based electronic text on the 'probability and statistics' which is one of six fields of mathematics in 7th curriculum. This text places importance on comprehension of concepts and fundamentals of probability and statistics as applied sciences and not on simple calculations of probability and statistics.

The education of probability and statistics has been carried out as a part of this curriculum. We analyze mathematics textbooks-Practical mathematics and Mathematics I- and compare the 7th national mathematics curriculum with the 6th national mathematics curriculum.

  • Because the probability education in the elementary statistics course is the starting part of the inferential statistics, it is hard to follow the lecture for undergraduate students. In this paper, we suggest the useful cases for the probability education in the elementary statistics course and give the corresponding R scripts.

  • This paper proposed dynamic adaptive model based on discrete probability distribution function and user profile in web based HyperMedia educational systems. This modelsrepresents application domain to weighted direction graph of dynamic adaptive objects andmodeling user actions using dynamically approach method structured on discrete probability function.   • In Korea, mathematics education has been taken according to the 7th national mathematics curriculum renovated by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development announcement in 1997. The education of probability and Statistics has been carried out as a part of this curriculum. We analyze and compare mathematics 1 textbooks for 11-12 grade students. Descriptions of random variable, sample variance and sample standard deviation, distribution of sample mean, and etc. which are on some textbooks, are misleaded in school education. We suggest the unbiased estimator of sample variance in accordance with textbooks and central limit theorem of sample mean under normal population.

  • Critical practicality problems are cause to search the presentation and contents according to user request and purpose in previous internet system. Recently, there are a lot of researches about dynamic adaptable ontology based system. We designed ontology based educational system which uses discrete probability and user profile. This system provided advanced usability of contents by ontology and dynamic adaptive model based on discrete probability distribution function and user profile in ontology educational systems. This models represents application domain to weighted direction graph of dynamic adaptive objects and modeling user actions using dynamically approach method structured on discrete probability function. Proposed probability analysis can use that presenting potential attribute to user actions that are tracing search actions of user in ontology structure. This approach methods can allocate dynamically appropriate profiles to user.
