  • The supersonic shock wave generated by fully coupled explosion will change into subsonic shock wave, plastic wave, and elastic wave consecutively as the wave propagates through rock mass. While the estimation of the blast-induced peak pressure was the main aim of the companion paper, this paper will concentrate on the estimation of the rise time of blast-induced pressure. The rise time can be expressed as a function of explosive density, isentropic exponent, detonation velocity, exponential coefficient of the peak pressure attenuation, dynamic yield stress, plastic wave velocity, elastic wave velocity, rock density, Hugoniot parameters, etc. Parametric analysis was performed to pinpoint the most influential parameter that affects the rise time and it was found that rock properties are more sensitive than explosive properties. The probabilistic distribution of the rise time is evaluated by the Rosenblueth'S point estimate method from the probabilistic distributions of explosive properties and rock properties. Numerical analysis was performed to figure out the effect of rock properties and explosive properties on the uncertainty of blast-induced vibration. Uncertainty analysis showed that uncertainty of rock properties constitutes the main portion of blast-induced vibration uncertainty rather than that of explosive properties. Numerical analysis also showed that the loading rate, which is the ratio of the peak blasting pressure to the rise time, is the main influential factor on blast-induced vibration. The loading rate is again more influenced by rock properties than by explosive properties.

  • The accurate peak response estimation of a seismically excited structure with frictional damping system(FDS) is very difficult since the structure with FDS shows nonlinear behavior dependent on the structural period, loading characteristics, and relative magnitude between the frictional force and the excitation load. Previous studies have estimated that by replacing a nonlinear system with an equivalent linear one or by employing the response spectrum obtained based on nonlinear time history and statistical analysis. In the case that an earthquake load is defined with probabilistic characteristics, the corresponding response of the structure with FDS has probabilistic distribution. In this study, nonlinear time history analyses were performed for the structure with FDS subjected to artificial earthquake loads generated using Kanai-Tajimi filter. An equation for the probability density function (PDF) of the displacement response is proposed by adapting the PDF of the normal distribution. Finally, coefficients of the proposed PDF are obtained by regression analysis of the statistical distribution of the time history responses. Finally the correlation between PDFs and statistical response distribution is presented.

  • This paper proposes the method to select the number of optimal mixtures in each state in Continuous Density HMM (Hidden Markov Models), Previously, researchers used the same number of mixture components in each state of HMM regardless spectral characteristic of speaker, To model each speaker as accurately as possible, we propose to use a different number of mixture components for each state, Selection of mixture components considered the probability value of mixture by each state that affects much parameter estimation of continuous density HMM, Also, we use PCA (principal component analysis) to reduce the correlation and obtain the system' stability when it is reduced the number of mixture components, We experiment it when the proposed method used average 10% small mixture components than the conventional HMM, When experiment result is only applied selection of mixture components, the proposed method could get the similar performance, When we used principal component analysis, the feature vector of the 16 order could get the performance decrease of average 0,35% and the 25 order performance improvement of average 0.65%.

  • Chaos communication systems have the characteristics such as non-periodic, wide-band, non-predictability of signals and easy implementation. There have been many studies about chaos communication systems because of these advantages. But, chaos communication systems have low BER(Bit Error Rate) compare to general digital communication system. Existing researches on chaos communication systems only analyze BER performance according to various chaos maps. There are no studies on analysis of BER performance according to PDF(Probability Density Function) of chaos maps. In this paper, we analyze the BER performance according to changing parameter, equation, and initial values of chaos map's PDF. In addition, we propose new chaos map to improve BER performance. Simulation results show that BER performance of CDSK(Correlation Delay Shift Keying) is changed when PDF of chaos map changed. And the proposed chaos map has a better BER performance compare to previous chaos maps such as Tent map, Logistic map, and Henon map.

  • Most data used for urban planning is aggregated by administrative district. Thus, a fundamental limit to analysing the changes of micro-geographical units exists. The object of this study is to estimate spatial development patterns based on characteristic city indicators. Gangnam, an area that was analysed, was divided into hexagon polygons. The development density and characteristic city indicators were input into each polygon. Moreover, this study analysed the influence of characteristic city indicators on development density using multinomial regression analysis. According to the results, distance between a polygon and both a road and a bus stop led to a decrease of development density in the polygon. However, distance between a polygon and a river led to an increase of development intensity. The method of this analysis and the results can be used to disaggregate the zonal data in the urban planing area.

  • This paper considers a probability density estimation problem of climate values. In particular, we focus on estimating probability densities of summer extreme temperature over South Korea. It is known that the probability density of climate values at one location is similar to those at near by locations and one doesn't follow well known parametric distributions. To accommodate these properties, we use a mixture of conditional autoregressive species sampling model, which is a nonparametric Bayesian model with a spatial dependency. We apply the model to a dataset consisting of summer maximum temperature and minimum temperature over South Korea. The dataset is obtained from University of East Anglia.

  • When the transposon is used as a selectable marker. the cotransduction frequency depends on the selection order of the markers. In this study. we adopted a mathematical approach to explain this phenomenon. At first, the formation of transducing particles were considered in five different configurations. Then the probability functions indicating the possibilities for a marker to be fixed were mathematically formulated on the basis of probability density concept. After actual values and useful assumptions were integrated into the Formula. resulting frequencies from theoretical calculations were compared with actual data. Such analysis let us conclude that the asymmetry in the frequency arose from the lack of homology required for homologous recombination due to the transposon insertion and from the suppression of recombination around the region where the transposon is inserted.

  • In this paper, we analyse the noise robustness of MLPs(Multilayer perceptrons) through deriving the probability density function(p.d.f.) of output nodes with additive input noises and the misclassification ratio with the integral form of the p.d.f. functions. Also, we propose linear preprocessing methods to improve the noise robustness. As a preprocessing stage of MLPs, we consider ICA(independent component analysis) and PCA(principle component analysis). After analyzing the noise reduction effect using PCA or ICA in the viewpoints of SNR(Singal-to-Noise Ratio), we verify the preprocessing effects through the simulations of handwritten-digit recognition problems.

  • In this paper, a new closed form expression for the average symbol error rate(SER) of generalized selection combining(SC), whereby the two(three) signals with the two(three) largest amplitudes are combined from the original diversity branches in the channel, for MPSK signals in a frequency-nonselective slowly m-distributed Nakagami fading channel is derived. In order to analyze the error performance for a generalized SC, the Order-Statistics is applied. To derive the SER of MPSK signals with SC, the new expression of pdf is introduced and many other mathematical methods are used. Comparing the derived SER with that of MRC, we find adequate diversity branch number from total Lth-order diversity branches.

  • In this paper, we develop the ground risk model of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operation to quantify the ground risk when the UAV falls to the ground during the intended operation in case of UAV failure. The ground risk is computed by using the UAV failure probability, the probability of impact a person when UAV falls to the ground, the probability of fatality when UAV strikes the person. We mathematically derive each probability to evaluate the ground risk of UAV operation. Also, the population density map, building to land ratio map, car traffic database is used to estimate the number of people exposed to collision with UAV. Finally, we assumed the operations of a UAV with two paths in Daejeon city and evaluate the ground risk of each UAV operations.
