Effects of Rice Bran Application on Growth, Yield, and Palatability of Rice (쌀겨처리가 벼 생육 특성과 미질에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of rice bran applied alone or in combination with chemical fertilizer on growth and edible quality of rice was investigated. The experiment consisted of 11 treatments: 3 levels of rice bran (RB) (500, 250 and 100kg $10a^{-1}$), 100 and 50% recommended fertilizer (RF) combined with above-mentioned 3 levels of RB, and 100 and 50% RF only. The rice brans were applied at 10 days before rice transplanting. Results showed that plant height 30 days after transplanting was significantly higher at 100% RF treatment than the RB treatments. However, plant height during heading stage was not significantly different between the 100% RF and the RB treatments. At higher RB treatments, ripened grain decreased, while panicle number and plant height increased. In the case of rice yield, 50% RF + RBtreatments exhibited similar or slightly higher yield than 100% RF. These results suggested that the recommended fertilizer can be reduced by 50% in case of applying RB. In terms of nutritional quality, protein content on rice grain increased at higher RB treatment, while amylose content at 50% RF + RB treatments ($17.3{\sim}17.8%$) decreased compared to that of RF ($17.9{\sim}18.1%$). Results showed significant effects of RB application on rice growth and quality.

Effect of Pig Slurry Application on the Mineral Content of Leaf, Fruit Quality and Soil Chemical Properties in Pear Orchard (돈분 액비 시용이 배나무 잎의 무기성분 함량, 과실특성과 토양화학성에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the replaceability of chemical fertilizer by SCB liquid fertilizer (SCB) in pear orchard for 5 years. The effects on the mineral content of leaf, fruit quality, yield and soil chemical properties are as follows: The mineral content of leaf showed no difference between the treatments; two SCB liquid fertilizer treatments based on the N (SCB-N) and K (SCB-K) content, and control (chemical fertilizer application). There were no significant differences in yield, titratable acidity and weight of the fruit although the figure of fruit weight was high in SCB-N treatment. Soluble solids content was higher in the SCB treatments than the control. Soil chemical properties such as the content of soil organic matter, available soil phosphate and exchangeable cation were not different, although soil pH was higher in SCB treatments. In conclusion, it is suggest that the use of chemical fertilizer in pear orchard could be replaced by the application of SCB liquid fertilizer because of the same effect on the growth of pear tree and soil chemical properties.

  • Hydrotreating catalysis refers to a various hydrogenation which saturate an unsaturated hydrocarbon, together with removing heteroatoms such as sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, and trace metals from different petroleum streams in a refinery. Most refineries include at least three hydrotreating units for upgrading naphtha, middle distillates, gas oils, intermediate process streams, and/or residue. Among them, hydrotreating catalysis for residue are the core of the process, because of its complexity. This article reviews recent progress in tackling the issues found in the upgrading residues by hydrotreating, focusing on the chemistry of hydrodemetallization (HDM) and hydrodesulfurization (HDS). We also discuss the composition and functions of hydrotreating catalysts, and we highlight areas for further improvement.

  • DTP용 원단으로 사용되는 직물의 대부분은 화학적 처리를 하는 것이 대부분이다. 하지만, 화학적 처리를 하는 과정에서 많은 양의 폐수와 악취가 발생되어 친환경적이지 못한 문제점이 있다. 최근에는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 대기압 플라즈마를 이용하여 화학적 전처리 공정을 대신 하려는 기술 개발이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 PET직물과 Nylon직물에 대기압 플라즈마 처리를 해 물성의 변화를 비교해 봄으로써, DTP용 원단으로써 적합성을 알아보았다.

Effect of Swine Liquid Manure on Soil Chemical Properties and Growth of Rice (Oryza sativa L.) (양돈분뇨 발효액비 시용이 토양 화학성과 벼 (Oryza sativa L.) 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of swine liquid manure (SLM) on rice grown in Yeonggwang-gun in 2008. The treatments consisted of SLM and chemical fertilizer (CF) based on the recommended amount of nitrogen (11 kg N $10a^{-1}$). The Total N content of the SLM used was 2,881 mg $L^{-1}$. Plant height at the early stage of growth and tiller number were not significantly different between plots applied with swine liquid manure and those with chemical fertilizer in all areas. Plant height at the later stage of growth, lodging and yield were not significantly different between plots applied with swine liquid manure and those with chemical fertilizer in three areas (Baeksu, Gunnam, Beopseong). Plant height at the later stage of growth, as well as lodging were higher in SLM plots than in chemically fertilized plots in Yeonggwang and Yeomsan. However, grain yield was lower in SLM plots than in chemically fertilized plots in these areas. Soil organic matter content and exchangeable cations increased in the swine liquid manure applied plots. Moreover, heavy metal content did not increase in the plots treated with swine liquid manure. Further research to determine the suitable rate of swine liquid manure is needed to reduce lodging damage and to increase the yield and quality of rice.

  • BDD(Boron Doped Diamond) 전극은 전위창이 넓고, 다른 불용성 전극에 비해 산소발생과전압이 높아 물을 전기화학적인 방법으로 처리하는 영역에 있어 매우 효과적일 뿐만 아니라, 전통적인 불용성 전극에 비해 전극 표면에서 수산화 라디칼(-OH)과 오존(O3)의 발생량이 월등히 높아 수처리용 전극으로서의 유용성이 매우 높다. 따라서 BDD 전극을 수처리용 전극에 사용하는 경우 수산화 라디칼(-OH)과 오존(O3), 과산화수소(H2O2) 등과 같은 산화제의 생성은 물론이고, 염소(Cl2)가 포함되어 있는 전해액에서는 차아염소산(HOCl)이나 차아염소산이온(OCl-)과 같은 강력한 산화제가 발생되어 전기화학적 폐수처리, 전기화학적 정수처리, 선박평형수 처리 등의 분야에 널리 활용될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 상온 및 상압에서 운전이 가능하고 난분해성 오염물질 제거 효과가 뛰어난 전기화학적 고도산화공정(Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Process, EAOP)에 적합한 대면적의 BDD 전극을 개발하고 자 하였다. 이러한 BDD 전극의 성막 방법으로는 필라멘트 가열 CVD, 마이크로파 플라즈마 CVD, DC 플라즈마 CVD 등이 널리 알려져 있는데 최근에는 설비의 투자비가 비교적 저렴하고, 대면적의 기판처리가 용의한 필라멘트 가열 화학기상증착법(Hot Filament Chemical Vapor Deposition, HFCVD)이 상업적으로 각광을 받고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 HFCVD 방법을 이용하여 반응 가스의 투입비율, BDD 박막의 두께, 기판의 재질 등에 따른 여러 가지 성막 조건들을 검토하여 $100{\times}100mm$ 이상의 대면적 BDD 전극을 개발하였다. Fig. 1은 본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 BDD 전극의 표면 및 단면 SEM이다.

Adsorption Characteristics of Cu(II) in the Presence of Surfactants on Natural Zeolites Treated Chemically and Thermally (가열 및 화학처리된 천연 제올라이트의 계면활성제 수용액 내에서 Cu(II)흡착특성)

  • Natural zeolites which were known to occur in sedimentary clinoptilolite, were treated by thermal and chemical methods, and their adsorption characteristics of Cu(II) were studied. Analyses by FT-IR, S. E. M, TGA/DSC, and XRD showed that the adsorption capacity of Cu(II) on the zeolite decreased gradually at the temperatures of above $400^{\circ}C$. The zeolites, which treated with NaOH and NaCl, show higher absorbility in acid solution. The adsorption rate of Cu(II) in the presence of surfactants(LAS, POE AE) on the thermally or chemically treated zeolites varied depending on pH, anion or nonion surfactants.

Influence of the Chemical Treatment of Bamboo Fiber (BF) on Physical Properties of BF and PP/BF Composites (대나무 섬유(BF) 및 PP/BF 복합체의 물성에 미치는 BF의 화학적 처리의 영향)

  • In order to investigate the effect of the chemical treatment of bamboo fiber on physical properties of polypropylene (PP)/bamboo fiber (BF) composites, silane coupling agents such as ${\gamma}$-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS), ${\gamma}$-glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (GPS) and ${\gamma}$-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MRPS) were applied to BF and alkaline treated BF. Morphological properties of the chemically treated BF were confirmed by optical microscope and SEM measurements, and chemical structure changes were confirmed by FT-IR and EDS. TGA results showed that the thermal stability of silane treated BF increased. Based on the analysis of a universal testing machine and an Izod impact test, the flexural and impact properties of PP/silane treated BF composites showed higher values than those of PP/BF composites. The enhancement of interfacial adhesion properties of the PP/BF composite was checked from SEM images of the fracture of specimens after the tensile test.

  • This research examined the effects of different liquid manure based anaerobic digestate on the growth and yield of rice compared to chemical fertilizer. The liquid manure was produced by aerobic fermentation from swine with cow or apple pomace anaerobic digestate and treated at different concentrations. The number of grains per panicle increased in both the liquid manure-treated and chemical fertilizer treated rice. The yield index did not vary significantly between the liquid manure and chemical fertilizer. An increased concentration of liquid manure did not correlate with increases in unhulled rice. However, pH and exchangeable K in the soil increased with an increase in liquid manure. In summary, we suggest a properly applied 100% liquid manure fertilizer can replace chemical fertilizer to reduce our excessive use of inorganic fertilizer.

Influence of Hanwoo (Korean Native Cattle) Manure Compost Application in Soil on the Growth of Maize (Zea mays L.) (한우퇴비 시용에 따른 옥수수(Zea mays L.)의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • We studied the influence of Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) manure compost soil application on the growth and yield of maize (Zea mays L.). We compared the soil application of chemical fertilizer (CF), commercial manure (CM), Hanwoo manure (HM), and the mixed Hanwoo manure and chemical fertilizer (HM + CF). CF application showed faster tasseling and silking dates compared to the other treatments. During the early plant growth stage of maize, CF application resulted in taller plant height, However, during later growth stages (55 days after transplanting). HM (226.0 cm) and HM + CF (230.0 cm) treatment resulted in taller plant height compared to CF (216.2 cm). Post-harvest measurement results showed that, the ear length was longer in HM (22.13 cm) and HM + CF (22.70 cm) compared to others, while ear diameter, ear weight, and 100-grains weight showed no significant difference among CF, HM, and HM + CF groups. The use of HM resulted in delayed growth during the early stages of plant development compared to CF. However, crop productivity markers of ear weight and ear diameter showed no significant difference compared to CF. Thus, HM treatment was comparable to CF treatment in maize cultivation.
