This study presents the mechanical characteristics, such as the permanent deformation and the crack, of the large stone asphalt mixtures. The large stone mixture was studied by Kandhal at NCAT(National Center for Asphalt Technology) in 1989. Japan and Arabian countries adopted the large stone mixture for the pavement construction. The experience and the study results showed that the interlocking of the aggregate system of the large stone mixtures is stable and less dependent on the binder characteristics in high temperature. These properties are known as the rutting resistant parameters. However, the mechanical test results should be supported to prove the benefits of the large stone mixtures. The creep test, resilient modulus tests on three different temperature, wheel tracking test and ravelling tests were conducted to evaluate the performance of the large stone mixtures in this study. The test results were compared with the conventional mixtures and modified asphalt concrete mixtures. The large stone mixtures showed better rutting resistance performance.

The stiffness of chemcrete modified asphalt mixtures increase rapidly with time in the presence f oxygen and high temperature, Sometimes the asphalt pavements that have chemcrete modified asphalt mixture applied on the surface none show premature cracking because of the excessive increase in the stiffness f the asphalt mixtures. To mitigate this premature cracking, the chemcrete modified mixtures have been used as a base course material. In this study, the performance of the chemcrete modified asphalt binder and mixtures are investigated through a course of various laboratory tests including dynamic shear rheometer and bending beam rheometer tests for binders and uniaxial tensile fatigue, wheel tracking, and moisture damage tests for the mixtures. And also the resilient modulus of the conventional and chemcrete modified mixtures are compared based on the test results conducted on the specimens obtained from various in-situ test sections. It can be concluded from the tests results that the chemcrete modified mixtures show better rutting resistance than conventional mixtures. The chemcrete modified mixtures may have low temperature cracking when it is applied in the cold region. The stiffness of chemcrete modified mixtures is approximately 50 percent higher than that of conventional mixtures more than two years after the chemcrete modified mixture was applied in the base course.
The purposes of this study were to analyze problems in the experiments for comparing properties of a mixture with a compound of iron and sulfur and then to suggest the improved experiments. For this study, the experimental methods in 9th science textbooks described were analyzed and middle school science teachers were asked to conduct the experiment according to the process of the textbook and to point problems of the experiment. Two alternative experiments, which improves the problems of the toxic and provocative experiment and of distinction between a mixture and a compound by magnetic properties, were proposed. The two experiments were applied to the 10 science teachers and 60 students from a “S” middle school. They responded that the experiments were suitable for comparing properties of a mixture and a compound and helpful to understand the concept.

The demand for porous asphalt mixtures is increasing because it has a range of functions, such as reducing traffic accidents and traffic noise. On the other hand, its application is delayed due to concerns about durability. This study examined the effects of the maximum aggregate size, temperature, and porosity of an asphalt mixture on the durability. To this end, the durability measure was set to the Cantabro loss rate. Mixtures having the same porosity of 20% and the maximum aggregate diameters of 13 mm, 10 mm, and 8 mm were tested at 20℃ and -20℃. Mixtures containing 20% and 22% voids with the same material having the same diameter were tested. With 20% porosity, there was no significant difference in durability when there was a change in the maximum aggregate size. There was a significant difference between 20℃ and -20℃, but no significant difference in durability when there was a 2% difference between 20% and 22%. The significance of this study is that the durability was presented quantitatively by tests and statistical analysis. This research will help improve the durability of porous asphalt mixtures by evaluating the factors affecting the durability quantitatively.
This paper presents the results of the effects on the inclusion of the pigment in the color asphalt mixture. The particle size of the pigment is extremely finer than that of the filler and should be reduced the amount of the filler used. It was found in the present practise that the total weight of 2% of the pigment in the weight of the total aggregate was used during the mix design. The extra inclusion of the pigment in the mixture increased the amount of the filler and affected on the volumetric properties such as void ratio and VMA. It has related with the performance and distress of the pavement and found that the mechanical properties have decreased.
This paper presents the characteristics of viscoelastic properties and fatigue performance of SBS modified asphalt mixtures depending on the aggregate gradation. Dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) and uniaxial tensile creep tests are performed to analyze the thermomechanical behavior of asphalt binders and mixtures, respectively. Uniaxial tensile fatigue tests for seven different asphalt mixtures are conducted to evaluate the effects of aggregate gradations and SBS modifier on the fatigue performance of the mixtures. DSR and uniaxial tensile creep tests results show that the SBS modified asphalt mixtures have better rutting resistance than the unmodified mixtures at high temperatures regardless of the aggregate gradations used. Fatigue factor $G^*sin\delta$ in Superpave binder specification may not be adequate for evaluating the fatigue Performance of asphalt mixtures. It is observed from uniaxial tensile fatigue tests that SBS modified asphalt mixtures compared to unmodified mixtures have ten times longer fatigue lives regardless of the aggregate gradations(dense, SMA, and Superpave gradations) used in the mixtures. The better fatigue performance of the SBS modified mixtures is observed even after long-term aging process. The effect of aggregate gradations on the fatigue performance is not as significant as the SBS modifier. The cellulose fiber added in the SMA mixture has negligible effects on the viscoelastic Properties and fatigue performance of the mixture, but is effective in reducing draindown. Although the SBS modified asphalt binder is used, it may be necessary to add the cellulose fiber into the SMA mixture to prevent the draindown.
In the reutilization process using limonene, the organic solvent to reduce volume of EPS, the AIT was measured with the variation of concentration and volume of mixture, in order to present the fund-mental data on the fire hazard assessment of limonene - EPS mixture at storage and handling. And ignition zone was compared with non-ignition zone. The equation related to AIT, activation energy and ignition delay time, used by the most scientific basis for predicting AIT values, was suggested using linear regression analysis as ln t = 0.704/T-5.819. And the equation related to concentration of mixture and AIT was also suggested to predict ignition hazard of combustible mixture using nonlinear regression analysis as $T_m/=248.32+69.27X+172.60X^2$. It enabled to predict ignition temperature according to variation of ignition delay time and concentration of mixture by the suggested equations.

The objective of this research was to develop a VEPCD (ViscoElastoPlastic Continuum Damage) Model which is used to predict the behavior of asphalt concrete under various loading and temperature conditions. This paper presents the VEPCD model formulated in a tension mode and its validation using four hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures: dense-graded HMA, SBS, CR-TB, and Terpolymer. Modelling approaches consist of two components: the ViscoElastic Continuum Damage (VECD) mechanics and the ViscoPlastic (VP) theory. The VECD model was to describe the time-dependent behavior of HMA with growing damage. The irrecoverable (whether time-dependent or independent) strain has been described by the VP model. Based on the strain decomposition principle, these two models are integrated to form the VEPCD model. For validating the VEPCD model, two types of laboratory tests were performed: 1) a constant crosshead strain rate tension test, 2) a fatigue test with randomly selected load levels and frequencies.
The base asphalt mixtures that used the waste recycle asphalt correcting from the four different overlay construction sites in Seoul city were made using the foamed asphalt method. The sample mixtures were made in different ratio of the recycle asphalt and new asphalt material and the performance of the mixtures of the different ratio was investigated in the laboratory. The laboratory tests includes the Marshall test, the indirect tensile test, the resilient modulus test, the creep test and the wheel tracking test. The test of the recycle foamed asphalt mixtures(RFA) were compared with the those of the recycle hot mix asphalt(RHA) mixtures. The performance of the RFA is comparable to that of the RHA. On the other hand, the indirect tensile strength of the RFA in dry condition is lower than that of RHA and the indirect tensile strength of the RFA in wet condition is much lower than that of the RHA.

The optimum fiber and asphalt binder contents were decided on the base of the Mashall mix design method. To compare the mechanical characteristics between the conventional(dense-graded 20) and the fiber-reinforced mixtures, indirect tension tests were conducted under three temperatures(5, 20, 60$^{\circ}C$). In particular, the wheel tracking tests were performed to evaluate the rutting resistances of the mixtures. Test results showed that the indirect tensile strength of fiber-reinforced asphalt concrete was higher than that of conventional one. The toughness of fiber-reinforced mixture was 1.27 to 1.97 times higher than that of conventional one, depending upon the temperature. In addition, the results of wheel tracking tests and the retained indirect splitting tension tests conducted at $60^{\circ}C$ revealed that the resistance to permanent deformation of fiber-reinforced mixture was stronger than that of the conventional one.
