Oxygen($O_2$) consumption and carbon dioxide($CO_2$) excretion of a fertile chicken egg during incubation were measured by a gas mass spectrometer. A closed sample chamber was developed to collect gas samples during the 20 days of artificial incubation of both a fertile and an infertile egg. After leaving an egg in the sample chamber for an hour, using a gas-tight syringe, samples of 2 mL of gas were collected from the closed sample chamber and analyzed using a gas mass spectrometer in 2~4 day intervals. The $O_2$ consumption and $CO_2$ excretion of chicken embryos increased rapidly after 10 days from the starting point of incubation. After 20 days, 23 mL of $O_2$ was consumed and 16 mL of $CO_2$ was excreted per hour. Throughout the whole period of incubation, concentration of $O_2$ decreased 4.3 mol% and $CO_2$ increased only 3.1 mole%, i.e., the mole of consumed $O_2$ and the mole of excreted $CO_2$ were not the same. On the other hand, during the same period, concentration of $N_2$ increased about 1.3 mol% and the increased mole fraction of $N_2$ was comparable with the difference (1.2 mol%) between the mole fraction of consumed $O_2$ and excreted $CO_2$. Therefore, we can attribute the increase of $N_2$ mole% to the difference of mole fraction between consumed $O_2$ and excreted $CO_2$. In this study, through the analysis of gas, we could explain the respiration of a fertile chicken egg during incubation.
From January 1990 through December 1995, 43 patients underwent diaphragmatic plication for the management of phrenic nerve palsy .complicating various pediatric cardiovascular surgery. Their mean age at plication was 11.1 months and sex ratio was 31 males to 12 females. In order of decreasing incidence, the primary cardiovascular procedures included modified Blalock-Taussig shunt (7), total correction for the Tetralogy of Falloff (7), arterial switch operation (6), unifocalization for the pulmonary atresia with VSD (3), modified Fontan operation (3), VSD patch closure (3) and others. The involved sides of diaphragm were right in 17, left in 2) and bilateral in 3. Extensive pericardial resection with electocauterization of resected margin was thought to be the most common cause of phrenic nerve palsy (20). The interval between primary operation and plication ranged from the day of operation to 98 days (median 11 days). The methods of plication were central pleating technique(plication with phrenic nerve branch preservation) in 41, and other technique In 2. 10 patients died after plication (7: early, 3; late), and the causes of death were thought to be unrelated to plication itself. Among the 36 early survivors, extubation or cessation of positive pressure ventilation could be accomplished between 1 and 24 days postoperatively(mean : 4.5). Cumulative follow-up was 92 patient years without major complications. Postoperative follow-up fluoroscopy was performed in 6 patients, and the location and movement of plicated diaphragms were satisfactory in 5 patients. We concluded that diaphragmatic plication with preservation of phrenic n rve branch could lead to cessation of positive pressure ventilation and complete recovery of diaphragmatic function in the long term, unless the phrenic nerve was irreversibly damaged.

This study was focused to examine the effects of pre- or post-harvest Ca-chitosan treatment on the shelf-life of 'Daesung' hardy kiwifruit. In the preharvest treatment, Ca-chitosan at 200 mg/L was intensively sprayed to the fruit three times on August 20, 25, and 28 in an order whereas harvested fruits were dipped for 10 sec. at the same concentration of chitosan as the postharvest treatment. Fruits were stored at 17℃ for 9 days and 1℃ for 40 days, respectively. Soluble solid contents, titratable acidity, firmness, respiration rate, and weight loss were examined to configure the qualities of fruits during storage. The changes of fruit quality parameters occurred more rapidly in calcium-chitosan treatment compared to untreated control when fruit were stored at 17℃. Both pre- or post-harvest Ca-chitosan treatment, however, effectively decreases the weight and firmness of fruit stored at 1℃. Fruit respiration rate was also reduced, indicating the increase of shelf-life throughout ripening of the fruit.
We evaluated the changes of fruit quality factors and the incidence of physiological disorders during the periods of high temperature environment in 'Wonhwang' and 'Whasan' pears to determine appropriate harvest time for exportation. In 'Wonhwang' pears, the fruits harvested at 130 days after full bloom (DAFB) showed 31.3 and 17.6N of flesh firmness after 5 and 10 days after simulated marketing at $30^{\circ}C$, respectively, while those of the fruits harvested at 135 DAFB lowered to 16.7 or 6.9N, respectively. Whereas, 'Whasan' pear showed higher firmness during 14 days of high marketing condition than 'Wonhwang' pears which represented 30.4, 26.5 and 21.6N in the fruits harvested 145, 150 and 155 DAFB, respectively. Higher soluble solid contents and lower acidity values observed in the late harvested fruits in both cultivar along with increased marketing period at $30^{\circ}C$. Late harvested 'Wonhwang' pears showed higher respiration rate and ethylene production than early harvested ones, while those of 'Whasan' pears showed lower values regardless of fruit maturity which represented less than 50% of 'Wonhwang' pears. The incidence of physiological disorders such as internal browning, water soaking, flesh spot decay, core breakdown and pithiness appeared more severely in the fruits of 'Wonhwang' in accordance with the progress of high temperature marketing and fruit maturity. Whereas, those symptoms were occurred only after 14 days of prolonged marketing time in 'Whasan' pears. Consequently, it was needed to pay more attention to determine the ripeness when the fruits exported to the country with high temperature environment, especially in the fruits of 'Wonhwang' pears showing rapid quality loss and severe physiological disorders.
This study was conducted to investigate variation of cardiopulmonary function by use of building stairs, a questionnair survey and measurement was carried out for 50 students of department of physical therapy Andong Junior College from 20th September to 3rd October, 1995. The result were as follows: The average systolic blood pressure(SBP) of stability for 50 college students who were measured was 121.3 mmHg, the average diastolic blood pressure(DBP) of stability was 78.5 mmHg, the average pulse frequency of stability was 71.8(frequency/min), the average breathing frequency of stability was 20.4(frequency/min), and the body temperature of stability was $36.8^{\circ}C$. SBP among the second, third, and fourth floors was 129.0 mmHg, 127.0 mmHg, and, 132.0 mmHg (p=0.1919), DBP was 80.1 mmHg, 76.5 mmHg, and, 82.0 mmHg (p=0.4229), the pulse frequency was 74.0, 73.1, and 74.0(frequency/min). The breathing frequency among the second, third, and fourth floors was statistically gradually increased according to 21.4, 23.1 and 24.6(frequency/min)(p=0.0071). The body temperature among the second, third, and fourth floors was statistically less and less decreased according to $36.8^{\circ}C,\;36.6^{\circ}C$ and $36.5^{\circ}C$(p=0.0040). It was revealed by this study, the breathing frequency among the second, third, and fourth floors was statistically significant increased, the body temperature was statistically significant decreased.

The shelf-life of fresh mushrooms is notably limited because their browning, texture change, and decay are too fast after immediately harvest. Especially, the best management for extending golden needle mushroom's shelf-life is modified atmosphere packaging under pressure vacuum at cold storage. In this study, three types of films, $20{\mu}m$ polyethylene+polypropylene (PE+PP), oriented polypropylene (OPP), and low density polyethylene (LDPE) were tested to extend the shelf-life of golden needle mushrooms. Mushrooms were packed under pressure vacuum and stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks. The golden mushrooms in LDPE film as a commercial packaging, were highly perishable and immediately proceed deterioration as browning, elongation, fluctuation of respiratory quotient (RQ) and softening within 7 days after packaging. On the other hand, the mushrooms in OPP and PE+PP film shown that shelf-life were extend to 14 days from 7 days, causing delay breakup of vacuum and maintenance of color, length, and RQ during storage. The breakup of vacuum in PE+PP film was faster few days than OPP film packaging. This present study indicated that the golden needle mushrooms by OPP packaging under pressure vacuum treatment might be extended the shelf-life until approximately 14 days during cold storage.

Changes in the quality characteristics of muskmelon were analyzed by treating samples with 500, 1,000, and 1,500 ppb 1-MCP every 4 days and then storing the samples at $10^{\circ}C$. The weight losses of the MCP treated samples were lower than those of the control, while there were no differences in the concentrations among treatments. The firmness was maintained at a higher value in 1-MCP treated samples than the control during the storage period and showed the highest value in the 1,000 ppb treatment. The L-values (brightness of samples) in the 500 and 1,000 ppb treatments were kept constant during the storage period, while that of the control showed a decreasing trend after four days of storage. The bvalues and yellowness, were decreased after showing an increasing trend in both treatments and the control as the storage period passed. The respiration rates of 1-MCP treated samples were lower than the control, with the lowest value being observed in the 1,000 ppb treatment. The texture observed upon sensory evaluation was higher and freshness was maintained longer in the 1,000 ppb treatment. Therefore, 1,000 ppb 1-MCP was considered to be the most effective concentration for treatment of muskmelon.
This study analyzed the emergency activity daily reports and emergency instruction sheets of the research subjects and proceeded with the shockable cardiac arrest cases transported to 119 emergency units for two years before the hospital from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011. The most frequently predicted instruction by the dispatchers at the 119 Emergency Situation Control Center was 74 cases of fainting (33.3%). Among varied types of predicted instructions, 112 cases (50.5%) like fainting, chest pain, general prostration and others were not able to be predicted while predictable instructions involved with cardiac arrest such as consciousness disorders, difficult breathing, cardiac attacks and convulsion were 110 cases (49.5%). In such cases, success rates of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) trials by eyewitnesses at predictable instructions involved with cardiac arrests were significantly higher. As mentioned, situation agents must categorize types of cardiac arrests accurately by posing questions over assessments regarding patients' consciousness and respiration in detail. The patients categorized by such methods must guide eyewitnesses to be able to do CPR. Moreover, not only emergency medical technicians who receive predictable instructions involved with cardiac arrests given by dispatchers (49.5%) but also filed emergency medical technicians who are not able to reach a precise conclusion to non-cardiac arrests on unpredictable instructions on cardiac arrests (50.5%) must prepare for situations related to cardiac arrests before being dispatched to the field.

Respiratory characteristics and quality of Fuji apple were investigated at critical conditions for dipping treatment in mild hot water ($40-65^^{\circ}C$) to extend freshness. Dipping treatment conditions under which no damages occurred in peel and flesh of apples stored at $0^{\circ}C$ for 1 month after treatment were: 180 min at $40^{\circ}C$, 60 min at $45^{\circ}C$, 45 min at $50^{\circ}C$, 3 min at $55^{\circ}C$, 1 min at $60^{\circ}C$, and 20 sec at $65^{\circ}C$. Internal carbon dioxide concentrations of apples drastically increased immediately after treatments at 40, 45, and $50^{\circ}C$, then decreased to normal level 1 day after treatment at $0^{\circ}C$. Although internal oxygen concentration of apples showed reversed trend to internal carbon dioxide, no significant differences were observed in concentrations of carbon dioxide and oxygen during storage after treatment of apples at 55, 60, and $65^{\circ}C$. Concentration of internal ethylene of apples treated at 40, 45, and $50^{\circ}C$ increased, similarly to that of carbon dioxide upon heat treatment, then, during storage, decreased to below levels of control and apples treated at 55, 60, and $65^{\circ}C$. Firmness of apples treated at 45 and $50^{\circ}C$ were 6.42 and 10.53% higher than that of control at $0^{\circ}C$ after 7 days after treatment.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the awareness of basic emergency care by private ambulance drivers. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 300 private ambulance drivers in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon from February 20 to April 1, 2013. The questionnaire consisted of basic life support related airway management(3 items), respiratory management(9 items), circulation(4 items), consciousness(4 items), and infection control(3 items). The awareness of infection control accounted for 87% and emergency care including airway, breathing, consciousness, and respiration was 60%. The knowledge of emergency care was 15.20(maximum 23.0 points). Consciousness was 2.55(maximum 4.0), airway management was 2.08(maximum 3.0), respiration was 5.35(maximum 9.0), circulation was 2.56(maximum 4.0), and infection control was 2.64(maximum 4.0). In order to improve the quality of private ambulance drivers, it is important to develop the emergency care program and expansion.
