  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to create clusters of geographically distributed base stations which cooperatively transmit signals in cellular mobile communication systems. The proposed method utilizes a sequential selection approach to choose candidate base stations which can provide maximum weighted sum-rate gain when they participate in the cooperative transmission with the existing cluster. In particular, the proposed method limits the maximum number of base stations in a cluster by considering the system operational and implementation complexities. Moreover, the combinations of clusters dynamically change along with variations of channel environments. Through computer simulations, performance of the proposed method is verified by comparing with the non-cooperative transmission method and the static clustering method. Numerical result shows that the proposed sequential selection based clustering method is especially advantageous for the performance improvement of lower percentile users in terms of average throughput, and thus the proposed method can effectively improve the fairness among users.

  • Supply chain management for engineering project focuses on planning acquisitions, identifying and choosing the right suppliers and subcontractors, planning and negotiating appropriate contracts, and administering the collaboration with the suppliers and subcontractors. This paper aims to identify the determinants of SCM performance of the suppliers and subcontractors participating in the project-based supply chain. This study proposes the absorptive capacity, fairness of suppliers' evaluation, the quality of collaboration and incentives as major research variables, and collected the survey responses from the suppliers and subcontractors having experiences with major engineering projects. The statistical results indicate that the incentives, absorptive capacity and the quality of collaboration influence SCM performance of suppliers, and that the fairness of suppliers' evaluation has some impact on the incentives and the absorptive capacity. But on the contrary to our expectation, the incentives have no significant impact on the level of absorptive capacity.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of child care teachers' emotional supports in individual classrooms on children's social skills, including self-control, assertion, cooperation, and responsibility that were related to their character development. Data were collected in a purposive sample involving 32 teachers working with 646 children at age five and 555 parents of the children. Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) was used to analyze a two-level model. The results showed that there were significant differences among classes with data reported by teachers but characteristics such as teachers' education and work experiences, child-teacher ratio, and type of child care centers as well as teacher's emotional supports did not explain the differences. Children's age and gender, which were predictors at the individual level, significantly explained their level of social skills reported by parents as well as teachers. The findings implied that other predictors influencing differences among classes should be explored in future studies.

  • Recently, although many firms conduct open innovation through collaboration with other innovation actors, little attention has been paid to research and case study with regard to SMEs. However, since the capability of SMEs is too insufficient to access external resources and collaborate with other firms, SMEs have practical needs for active open innovation. In addition, although a lot of SMEs depend on external resources in terms of distribution, services and sales, most of open innovation-related research concentrate on R&D and production. Therefore, this research aims at presenting various types, methods and policy to stimulate the open innovation of SMEs. Typical types of open innovation which SMEs can take will be identified and then a relevant open innovation type will be matched on the basis of the characteristics of sectors. The results of this research will be helpful for policy makers to promote open innovation in SMEs.

  • Methodist church materials are classified with three types, centered on the organizations manufacturing and holding materials such as 1) 'materials of the Methodist headquarter' governing all of the Methodist churches in Korea, 2) 'materials of theological seminary libraries' holding academic study books related to theology, and 3) 'materials manufactured in individual churches'. In this manner, the Methodist church materials imply homogeneity in theme, but the materials have identity from each other, because organizations are different each other, too. By a characteristic of each organizations, to use Methodist church document done a director of each organization is demanded collaboration between the material departments of each organizations, this study intends to analysis material department operation status of three Methodist church organizations. As a result of analysis, it is necessary to perform the prior tasks, such as reconstructing organization to accomplish an original function of the Methodist headquarter, developing operation regulation classified with the Methodist church group, and constructing material management system.

  • In this study, we investigated the processes of analogy change and the characteristics of discussions in collaborative activity of self-generated analogy. Twenty-four high school students in Seoul participated in this study. We implemented science instructions based on collaborative activity of self-generated analogy. We compared personal analogies, group analogies, and modified group analogies in order to analyze the processes of analogy change. We also analyzed the characteristics of group and classroom discussions in the science instructions. The analyses of the results indicated that the processes of analogy change were categorized into three patterns; adding shared attributes, recognizing unshared attributes, and revising mapping errors. They selected a group analogy from analogies of their group members by considering inclusiveness, originality, and familiarity. They perceived the activity of self-generated analogy as subjective and creative. Therefore, they felt little pressure of self-generated analogy and there were little conflicts in group discussions. On the other hand, various analogies were suggested in classroom discussions and the competitive atmosphere of classroom discussions led students to focus on unshared attributes. At the stage of modifying group analogies, they added unshared attributes as limitations of the group analogy and changed their group analogy not to have unshared attributes. There were no cases of generating a new analogy. Some suggestions to implement collaborative activity of self-generated analogy in science teaching effectively are discussed.
