  • In the practice of preloading method for soft ground improvement, field engineers need information of ground properties, construction works and field monitoring on ground behaviors of the site. So, integrating all these informations into one database can provide more efficient way for managing and utilizing the data for construction management. In this study, integrated system for construction management of ground improvement sites under preloading is developed. The developed system consists of database (DB) and application program. The database contains all collected data in a construction site and processed data in the system with their geographic information. All informations in the database are standardized from the result of data characterization. Application program performs various functions on managing and utilizing information in the database; pre- and post- data processing with graphic visualization of output, spatial data interpolation, and prediction of ground behavior using field measuring data. And by providing integrating informations and predictions over entire project area with comprehensible visual displays, the applicability and effectiveness of the developed system for construction management were confirmed.

  • As recent buildings have been enlarged and free-formed, it is hard to represent three-dimensional buildings with two-dimensional drawings and identify design errors, construction errors, difference of construction quantity and construction cost, clash with columns, beams, pipe machinery, and so on. In order to overcome the limitations, BIM(Building Information Modeling) has been used in construction industry. However, BIM in the construction site is not fully facilitated after practical implementation in process control including training, evaluation and analysis of the process. Therefore, in this study, the effect of BIM applied in the construction site is analyzed empirically throughout the survey at the construction site in accordance with the training, evaluation, and implementation of BIM.

  • The communication issue in the building construction site organization effects on the job stress of the field mangers, because the field managers are working with various members in the construction site organization. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of opponents' communication styles on job stress of the building construction field managers. As a result of this study, it was found that the job stress felt by the building construction field managers was differed according to the opponents' communication styles. In special, when the communication style of the opponents of construction field managers was an emotive style or a director style, job stress was higher. However it was a supportive style or a reflective style, job stress was lower. The results of this study are expected to help to build the site organizational management system to improve the performance of construction work in the building construction projects.

  • The number of construction accident deaths in Korea is increasing and most causes of construction accidents are human factors. Voluntary participation of construction workers in safety activities is likely to improve these human factors and increase the prevention effect of construction accidents. Therefore, there is a need to study the motivation of workers to meet the voluntary participation of construction workers. In this respect, the purpose of this study is to compare the importance of construction field engineers and construction managers about the safety motivation factors of construction workers. This study analyzed the results of the questionnaire survey about safety motivation factors and conducted a T-test for these factors. The results of this study can be used as managing method to effective on-site safety management by minimizing the difference between the two groups according to motivation factors of construction workers.

  • Recently the regulation related the environment is getting more and more strengthened. Needs for sustainable building is growing more and more interested in construction industry. However, most of the research has been conducted is focused on material production or maintaining phases. There are not enough research especially in construction phase. And it still exists a lot of environmental barrier factor which could not be easily quantified in construction fields. It makes problems that contractors make an effort only an adequate regulation and they does not take an interest in reducing efforts of environmental pollution. This research defines factor categories which have to be mainly managed and provides the integrated construction management method for sustainable building to reduce environmental pollution through analysis of environmental barrier factor in each work package and effective adjustment of construction plan.

  • The collaboration with members are very important things to manage the field organization in the building construction project. These collaborations are related with the communication in the organization, so the field organization ability could be advanced by improving the communication level. However, the research about communication in building construction field organizations has rarely studied. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the organizational factors to influence the communications in building construction field organizations. In this study, the leadership style of head managers and organizational cultural characteristics is determined the factors to influence the communication level by literature reviewing. The results of this study showed that the communication level is good when head managers in building construction site had an idealized influence style leadership and individual consideration style leadership. In addition, the good communicated field organizations had the higher characteristics of a consensus culture and development culture. This study is expected to help to improve the performance of the building construction field organizations.
