Hat design of surrealism was cylindrical or tear drop in a shape according to the principle of $D{\acute{e}}paysement$ and Trompe l'oeil, and was similar with the Form of a jacket, a sleeve, or a skirt. In color, accent color coordination mainly appeared and sometimes contrast color coordination induced illusion effect. In material, a variety of materials were used according to the principle of $D{\acute{e}}paysement$ and Trompe l'oeil, and contrast was widely used like color. • The purpose of this study is to systematically examine fusion phenomenon in the cultural aspect aiming to grasp the characteristics of fusion phenomenon, which has a steady impact on fashion trend. A reason for fusion to be noted as a cultural code is because diversely cultural interpretations are impossible from one viewpoint. Therefore, it is aimed to inquire into the characteristics of fusion culture, which is one phenomenon of newly mass culture, and to examine which cultural fusion phenomenon in modern fashion is being displayed in fashion design. First, the culturally fusion phenomenon, which was indicated in modern fashion, is displayed as repetition. The fusion, which integrates into fashion as a cultural code, is a trend of pursuing the experience with different culture. The needs of consumers are shown as fusion fashion that repeatedly uses the traditional detail and the modern detail through cultural repetition. Second, it is displayed as transformation. A concept of fusion is not the simple aggregate in [1+1=2], but the creation of new culture called [1+1=1]. In modern fashion, the cultures in the East and the West are harmoniously transformed, and through transformation, each culture is being compressively delivered. Third, it is displayed as interdependency. The fusion fashion which was newly re-interpreted while having reciprocal influence upon mutual culture, is re-interpreted by forming the equal relationship in heterogeneous elements without destroying fashion that was made previously.

  • As the traditional style is treated as one of the important themes in fashion recently, how to apply the formative character in Korean and Japanese traditional dress to modern fashion is searched through actual analysis of photograph material, Both design formative elements were confirmed by clothing and fashion department majors through visual data so that 20 pieces of them were selected as final analysis object. Korean traditional dress form in modern fashion emphasizes curvaceousness as plane division. On the other hand, that of Japanese shows straight line, layered, belt, big look through up & down connection style. Color in Korean traditional dress prefers white and original color and modern fashion displays the natural beauty through harmony of similar colors ; that of Japanese based on natural color such as persimmon color cherishes natural beauty and implicit moderation showing harmony of various original color with brilliance and neutral color. While texture in Korean traditional dress was fine and exquisite, that of Japanese preferred coarse and tactile ones. In motif, Korea was natural and geometric but Japanese variously used complex and geometric ones. Likewise, the result suggests that the formative character in Korean and Japanese modern fashion affects the modern dress format as new aesthetic sense and takes on more complicated and subtle aspect in basic form, not just use so far.

  • Male skirt is found in traditional costumes all over the world. Due to the development of tailoring skills in the early Middle ages, men started wearing breeches and pantaloons gradually distinguishing the different characteristics of menswear and womenswear. Since then, skirt became the strong representation of the female gender, symbolizing the feminism. However, under the influences of technological development and diversification in 2000s, gender identity has been diversely expressed in modern fashion allowing male gender to embrace different sexual identities. The purpose of the study is to analyze the nature of male skirts, which have been popularized in modern men's fashion through both the expressional elements and compositional elements. This study associates design elements of male skirt, gradually appearing in the contemporary men's fashion with the sexual symbolism and reinterpreted it's significance in the flow of the modern fashion. Reinterpretation of the gender image in costumes are considered to contribute to the cultural context and extension in diversity. These research results forms a basic foundation to expand in studies of men's fashion design and gender image of costumes through cultural contexts and it's changes. It is considered that this can lay groundwork to make various attempts at passing over the archetype of the gender image besides the continuous appearance of male skirt in the field of fashion design.
