  • The purpose of this study is to discuss the direction of studies of information seeking behavior(ISB) by analyzing previous studies provided model of ISB. Studies were divided into 3 types in terms of factors, processes, or types/patterns of ISB and sub-analyzed by 9 aspects such as research method/ theoretical framework, context of ISB and vice versa. Korean research strategies for overcoming the limitation of ISB studies are to do holistic research approach capturing complexity and multidimention of ISB as well as to extend research objects. Also, it needs to construct substantive theories based upon korean phenomenon of ISB.

  • A number of studies and models have focused on collaborative information behavior (CIB) in various contexts as the importance of research on CIB is recognized in information behavior research. This study compared and analyzed the models of CIB developed by Prekop (2002), Reddy and Jansen (2008), Shah (2008), Karunakaran, Spence and Reddy (2010), and Yue and He (2010), and discussed the direction of future studies of CIB. The future research strategies for overcoming the limitation of previous studies and models on CIB are to extend research object and context, to do holistic research approach tracing complexity of CIB, and to debate and verify the models of CIB. In particular, it needs to modify and improve the models based on the empirical research for domestic context.

  • Mode choice behavior is associated with travelers' latent behavior that is an unobservable preference to travel behavior or mode characteristics. This paper specifically addresses the problem of unobservable factors, that is latent behavior, in mode choice models. Consideration of latent behavior in mode choice models reduces the errors that come from unobservable factors. In this study, the authors defined the latent variables that mean a quantitative latent behavior factors, and developed the combined RP/SP model with latent variables using the mode choice behavior survey data. The data has traveler's revealed preference of existent modes along the Han River and stated preference of new water transit on the Han River. Also, The data has travelers' latent behavior. Latent variables were defined by factor analysis using the latent behaviour data. In conclusion, it is significant that the relationship between traveler's latent behavior and mode choice behavior. In addition, the goodness-of-fit of the mode choice models with latent variables are better than the model without latent variables.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify research trends on librarians' behaviors(LB) in Korea. 163 papers were selected in four representative journals published in Korean LIS, 1970-2015. The papers were analyzed in terms of period, journal, theme, purpose of research, research method, areas, type of author. The findings are as follows. 1) LB of University library were 28.8% and then that of public library were 26.9%. 2) Organizational behaviors of librarians were 52.7%, and then work behaviors were 31.9%. 3) Purposes of research were to examine librarians' perception (52.7%) and then to improve of current state of libraries(41.1%). 4) Quantitative research method was heavily found(82.2%). 5) Research purpose on LB of University library was related to identify perception of librarians, and that of Public library was related to improve current state of libraries. It discussed four strategies for sustaining growth of LB study aspect of research subject, research purpose, research method, and editorial strategies of four journals.

  • This study focused on the park as a space to support the behavior of urban citizens in modern society. Modern city parks are not spaces that play a specific role but are used by many people, so their function and meaning may change depending on the user's behavior. In addition, current online data may determine the selection of parks to visit or the usage of parks. Therefore, this study analyzed the change of behavior in Yeouido Park, Yeouido Hangang Park, and Yangjae Citizen's Forest from 2000 to 2018 by utilizing a time series analysis. The analysis method used Big Data techniques such as text mining and social network analysis. The summary of the study is as follows. The usage behavior of Yeouido Park has changed over time to "Ride" (Dynamic Behavior) for the first period (I), "Take" (Information Communication Service Behavior) for the second period (II), "See" (Communicative Behavior) for the third period (III), and "Eat" (Energy Source Behavior) for the fourth period (IV). In the case of Yangjae Citizens' Forest, the usage behavior has changed over time to "Walk" (Dynamic Behavior) for the first, second, and third periods (I), (II), (III) and "Play" (Dynamic Behavior) for the fourth period (IV). Looking at the factors affecting behavior, Yeouido Park was had various factors related to sports, leisure, culture, art, and spare time compared to Yangjae Citizens' Forest. The differences in Yangjae Citizens' Forest that affected its main usage behavior were various elements of natural resources. Second, the behavior of the target areas was found to be focused on certain main behaviors over time and played a role in selecting or limiting future behaviors. These results indicate that the space and facilities of the target areas had not been utilized evenly, as various behaviors have not occurred, however, a certain main behavior has appeared in the target areas. This study has great significance in that it analyzes the usage of urban parks using Big Data techniques, and determined that urban parks are transformed into play spaces where consumption progressed beyond the role of rest and walking. The behavior occurring in modern urban parks is changing in quantity and content. Therefore, through various types of discussions based on the results of the behavior collected through Big Data, we can better understand how citizens are using city parks. This study found that the behavior associated with static behavior in both parks had a great impact on other behaviors.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of library service users' information seeking behavior based on the grounded theory methodology. After interviewing twelve undergraduate students, the researcher coded the data based on the grounded theory methodology. As a result of the entire coding processes, this study constructed the library service users' information seeking behavior model. According to the model, the following ten factors are important when explaining library service users' information seeking behavior: the information users' environment, other people, users' experiences, recognition of information sources, information provided, memory, a need-creating environment, information gathering, information use, and satisfaction and/or dissatisfaction.

  • This study aims to investigate trends of internet searching behavior of users of NAVER, a major Korean search portal. In particular, this study analyzed trends of query submission behaviors, behaviors related to typos, multimedia searching behaviors, and click behaviors. In conducting this study, query logs and click logs of unified search service were analyzed. The results of this study show that there were little changes in the topic and length of queries, the pattern of typos, and multimedia seeking behavior over a year's period. However, click counts of documents have gradually increased over time. The results of this study can be implemented to increase the portal's effective development of internet contents and searching algorithms.

  • Humanities academia and scientific community have been fused together in 21st centurty and it creates new theories and models. Among them, the embodied cognition theory has received attention in several related fields. This study reviews the major metatheories in information user behavior with their limitations. Then, "Life paradigm information behavior model" is suggested as a new theory, which communsurates with new era's request, introducing the embodied cognition theory and the entropy concept. By overcoming the limitations of individual approach to the information retrieval and user behaviors, we expect the discourse of the new integrated information retrieval paradigm.

  • While numerous studies have empirically investigated user behavior in LIS research community, less research has attempted to examine such studies in methodological perspective. Reflecting this, relevant studies have suggested the need to develop methodological framework for such studies. This study conducted content analyses of user behavior studies recently published in JASIST and analyzed factors which affect the external validity of result of such researches. The findings revealed various types and cases related to the generalization of the study results. Based on these, a methodological framework for user behavior studies were suggested.

  • This study compared the everyday-life information behaviors of urban and rural adolescents to suggest ways that school library information services can better meet the information needs of each of these groups. It focused its comparison not only on the everyday-life information-seeking behaviors but also on kinds of information grounds and barriers forming information grounds. Two qualitative methods, written activity logs and semi-structured in-depth interviews, were used to examine everyday-life information behaviors of adolescents. It is expected that the proposed strategies will be used in planning actual school library information services for urban or rural youths.
