The Impact of the Work-Life Balance (WLB) of Flight Attendants on Organizational Commitment, Subjective Career Success, and Turnover Intention (항공사 객실승무원의 일-삶 균형(WLB)이 조직몰입, 주관적 경력성공, 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the study is to identify the structural equation modeling among work-life balance(WLB), organizational commitment, subjective career success, and turnover intentions. The study data came from 199 respondents, as flight attendants working for large domestic airlines. The research tested structural equation modeling by utilizing the SPSS20.0 and AMOS20.0 statistical program. As the results, the study found that WLB would have a negative impact on organizational immersion, and secondly, the hypothesis that WLB has a positive impact on the subjective career success of the flight attendants. Third, the hypothesis that the organization immersion of the flight attendants would have a positive impact on subjective career success, and fourth, the hypothesis that organizational immersion has a negative impact on the turnover. However, fifth, the hypothesis that subjective career success would have a negative impact on turnover was dismissed. Finally, the hypothesis that WLB would have a positive impact on turnover was adopted. Based on the results of this analysis, the research presents highly significant theoretical and practical implications.

Effects of Authentic Leadership on Positive Psychological Capital and Change-Oriented Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Flight Attendants -Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Positive Psychological Capital- (항공사 승무원의 진정성리더십이 긍정심리자본 및 변화지향 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향 -긍정심리자본의 매개효과를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether authentic leadership influenced positive psychological capital and change-oriented organizational citizenship behavior(CO-OCB) in airline service context. Moreover, this study was designed to test the mediating effect of positive psychological capital between authentic leadership and CO-OCB to provide fundamental and practical information for airline industry. A convenience sample of 390 flight attendants was surveyed and a total of 377 usable questionnaires were analyzed. Then hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling(SEM). The results were as follows. Firstly, authentic leadership was divided into 'self-awarenese', 'relational transparency', internalized moral perspective' and 'balanced process'. Secondly, 'self-awarenese' and 'internalized moral perspective' influenced positive psychological capital. Thirdly, positive psychological capital influenced CO-OCB. Fourtjly, positive psychological capital had mediating effects partially between authentic leadership and CO-OCB.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore ways of service recovery and procedures through the service failure cases depending on the employee capacity that leads to improving quality of the airline cabin service. This study was tested using the failure case of airline in korea. Since interrupting and discontinuing of customer service affect customer defections, customer satisfaction must quickly respond to the service's error situation. The service of the cabin crew is closely related to the customer's evaluation, the direct connection. Customer's objectives are to meet employee needs for service recovery and to recognize and analyze customer perceptions of human resources services, restore customer expectations and maintain contracts with customers. Therefore, this study proposes a set of strategies for effectively preventing and responding to customer related service failure in the airline cabin service.

  • 교통수단으로서의 항공기 이용 고객의 증가로 인해 객실 내에서 제공되는 기내 서비스는 항공사의 경쟁력을 결정하는 중요한 요소 중 하나이다. 그러나 현재와 같이 승무원이 비행 중 기내식 등의 서비스 제공을 위해 카트를 직접적으로 이동시키며 제공하는 서비스는 여러 불편한 요소로 인해 서비스의 질을 감소시킬 수 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 카메라 센서와 초음파 센서를 이용하여 기내에서 활용 가능한 서비스용 스마트 카트를 설계한다. 설계하는 스마트 카트는 승무원의 이동에 따라 대체 거리를 측정해 사용자와의 일정 거리를 유지하는 동시에 승객의 호출 신호에 따라 승객의 자리로 자동 이동하여 서비스 제공이 가능하게 하는 것을 목표로 한다. 기내 서비스용 스마트 카트는 승무원의 노동 강도 감소와 더불어 항공기 객실 서비스의 질적 향상에 기여할 뿐만 아니라 저가 항공사의 경비 절감에도 기여할 수 있다.

Differences in Leisure Type of Temporary stay -in overseas Lay over by Segmentation of Flight Attendant's Life Style (항공사 객실승무원의 라이프스타일과 일시적 해외 체제 시 여가 유형)

  • This research aims to investigate the life-style and types of leisure experienced among airline flight attendants during temporary stays abroad. In this study 2 hypotheses based on literature reviews were employed. Questionnaires were also developed based on data collected from previous studies. Subjects of the study were focused on flight attendants in Legacy Airlines. Factor analysis and reliability coefficients were used to examine the internal consistency among variables. Seven dimensions of leisure, which are cultural experience, pursuit of success, social orientation, humanity, pursuit of fashion, shopping preferences and health-orientation were identified from factor analysis. Three dimensions of leisure, which include type of rest, type of sports, and activity of tourists, were identified from factor analysis accordingly. Lifestyle factors were extracted from a result of cluster analysis, cluster 1- Passive lifestyle, Active lifestyle community type 2, and Cluster 3 analyzed Self-satisfied lifestyle types. Airline cabin crew workers involved in the life style analysis can make good use of leisure time.

Emotional Organizational Commitment, Surface Acting, and Personal Accomplishment among Flight Attendants (항공사 객실 승무원의 정서적 조직몰입, 표면행동, 그리고 성취감의 관계)

  • This study testifies the proposition that in the case of high emotional organizational commitment, through employees perform surface acting, they feel high personal accomplishment. Data was collected from 158 flight attendants of two airlines in Korea. From the hierarchical regression analysis, we could conclude such as follows. First, emotional organizational commitment has a positive effect on surface acting. It means that because employees with high emotional organizational commitment accept organizational goals as theirs, they are willing to perform surface acting. Second, surface acting has a positive effect on personal accomplishment. It means that surface acting has a "positive" side as well as negative one. Third, according to above results, organizations should try to take measures to increase the emotional organizational commitment of flight attendants.

  • The object of this study is to verify the effects of job stress on burnout and job satisfaction of flight attendants and to confirm the difference in the effect on the consciousness of full service carrier and low cost carriers' flight attendants. In order to confirm, the study examines the relationship between job stress, burnout, and job satisfaction of airline cabin attendant. A survey was done for 55days from January 5th 2014 on flight attendants and total 200 valid samples were analysed. The results of the study demonstrated significant relationship and difference in job stress, burnout and job satisfaction of flight attendants between full service carrier and low cost carrier. As a result, the study is significant as it satisfaction between divergent airline work environment.

  • 본 논문의 주목적은 경쟁이 치열한 항공 산업의 주체인 국적 항공사들의 효과적인 기내식서비스 품질 경영을 위한 항공사 서비스품질 차원의 규명을 위함이다. 항공사 서비스에서 객실 서비스가 차지하는 비중이 상당하며, 그 중 기내식 서비스 시 승무원과 고객 간에 많은 상호작용이 장시간 유지된다. 특히 좌석등급에 따라 고객들의 인구통계학적 특성도 다른 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 좌석 등급에 따라 기내식 서비스 품질 차원들이 어떻게 다르게 나타나고 그 구성요인들이 무엇인가를 밝힌다. 본 논문의 결론은 항공사의 기내식 서비스 품질 차원들은 좌석 등급에 따라 큰 차이를 보이고 있어 고객의 만족도와 충성도 또한 다르게 나타날 것이라는 예측을 가능하게 한다. 그러므로 앞으로 기내식 서비스 품질만이 아니라 항공사 서비스 품질 평가 시 좌석 등급에 따른 서비스 평가가 필수적임을 본 연구 결과는 시사하고 있다.

  • 기술의 발전 및 증가하는 항공수요를 바탕으로 항공산업은 신규항공기의 개발, 노선의 확충, 항공사의 신설 등 지속적인 성장을 거듭하고 있다. 이처럼 항공산업의 발전에도 불구하고 항공기 사고의 발생은 일정한 수준을 유지하고 있으며 단한건의 사고로 막대한 사회적 손실을 야기할 수 있다. 현재 국내 외에서 발생하는 항공사고는 대부분 인적요인에 의해서 발생되며 그중 피로관리 미흡으로 인한 사고가 높은 비중을 차지하고 있다. 이에 따라 국가기관 및 국제사회는 운항승무원, 객실승무원에 대한 피로관리 시스템의 연구 및 개발을 통하여 피로관리시스템을 운영하고 있다. 그러나 직접적인 항공안전, 유지, 보수를 책임지는 항공정비사들의 경우 주 야간근무, 3교대근무 등에 의한 비 규칙적인 근무환경에 노출되어 있다. 또한 항공정비사의 피로관리시스템의 연구는 상대적으로 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 선행연구 및 인적관리 연구를 바탕으로 체계적인 항공정비사 피로관리시스템의 도입 필요성에 관하여 고찰하고자 한다.

The Effect of Personality Traits on Emotional Exhaustion among Flight Attendants (성격 특성이 항공사 객실 승무원의 정서적 고갈에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines hypotheses that four personality traits(extroversion, emotional stability, openness to experience, and agreeableness) have effect on emotional exhaustion among flight attendants. Questionnaires were collected from 344 flight attendants working for two airlines in Korea. From the hierarchical regression analysis, this research could find out some results such as follows. First, extroversion, emotional stability, and agreeableness, with the exception of openness to experience, decrease the level of emotional exhaustion. Second, according to the results of these analyses organizations should consider employee's personality fitting to job in selection process.
