The purpose of this research is to compare, according to tone variation of a red jacket, the preference of female college students from Korea and the U.S. for coloration in the traditional Korean dress. The results of the research can be summarized as follows: As to a vivid skirt according to tone variation of red jacket, students of both countries showed the different view in the preference for coloration of vivid red skirt and vivid. dark red jacket, and vivid orange skirt and dull red jacket, and vivid yellow skirt and light dull red jacket, and vivid violet skirt and dull red jacket. As to the light skirt according to tone variation of red jacket, student of both countries showed the different view in the preference for coloration of light red skirt and light red jacket, and light orange skirt and light red jacket. As to the dull skirt according to tone variation of red jacket, student of both countries showed the different view in the preference for coloration of dull red skirt and vivid light dull dark red jacket, and dull yellow skirt and light dull red jacket, and dull yellow skirt and light dull red jacket, and dull green skirt and dull red jacket, and dull violet skirt and vivid light dull dark red jacket. As to the dark skirt according to tone variation of red jacket, student of both countries showed the different view in the preference for coloration of dark red skirt and dull dark red jacket, and dark orange skirt and vivid light dull red jacket, and dark yellow skirt and dull red jacket. As to the neutral skirt according to tone variation of red jacket, student of both countries showed the different view in the preference for coloration of white skirt and vivid red jacket, and dark gray skirt and light red jacket.

The purpose of this research is to understand the harmony of chromatic and achromatic colors of the traditional Korean dress. The subjects were women＇s college students in Korea and America. Chromatic colon, red, yellow, and green color, were chosen for the color of the Korean jacket, and achromatic colors were chosen for the color of the skirt, and then the colors＇ chroma were controlled and value of color was changed. In addition, the three colors of the jacket were combined with four kinds of the colors＇ tone. Then, the students of both countries assessed about the harmony for 48 colorations which were variously incorporated with the tones of skirt and jacket. The results of research can be summarized as follows. When red jackets were combined with skirts of achromatic colors, students of both counties showed the different views in the range of harmony and disharmony for colorations of white(N9) skin and vivid jacket, and white(N9) skirt and dark jacket, and black(N2) skirt and light jacket, and black(N2) skirt and dull jacket. In the tone of yellow jackets and achromatic skirts, students of both counties showed similar responses in that a light yellow jacket was well matched with dark grey(N4) and black(N2) skirt. While Korean students generally evaluated that coloration was well harmonized when low value color was arranged below, American students thought, that the tones of a harmonized skirt were different, according to the jacket＇s tones. When green jackets were combined with stills of achromatic colors, colorations that showed their different views of both countries were a white(N9) skirt combined with vivid, light, dull jackets, and a light grey(N7) skirt and dull jacket, and a dark grey(N4) skirt and dark jacket. Among 48 stimuli of coloration on the chromatic and achromatic colors, Korean students evaluated 16sets and American students judged 28 sets as harmonized colors. Therefore, it came to the conclusion that Korean students had the sense of harmonious coloration of more narrow range than American students.

The purpose of this study is to comprehend the color and the coloration of Han-bok on the oil-painting of modern Korea. Generally, the modern Korean art is from late 19th to early 1980s' for the lowest year. Through the introduction of oil painting and the painter's work which had been reflected painter's realism at these times, we might know that the phases of the times and we could see a Korean costume and color combination. In this study, Han-bok is divided to upper clothes, lower clothes and the other parts which was distinguished by the color. The color of Han-bok which is watched on the modern art oil-painting is mainly white. The primary color including red, yellow, blue and middle tone colors is in harmony. It means that the five colors of Yin-Yang Wu-hsing were preferred until the modern times. The coloration of Han-bok is classified to a one-colored arrangement, two-colored arrangement and three-colored arrangement. The one-colored arrangement by white and black is a peculiar coloration to the modern times. The two-colored arrangement is a traditional coloration of Han-bok. The color which is high value and chroma is arranged on jacket, Jeogori. A dimension rate that is related with the difference of value and chroma made a visual harmony. In many cases of the two-colored arrangement of neutral colors is not much different in Jeogori and Chima. So Han-bok which is two-colored arrangement of neutral colors is colored in a breast- tie, pigtail ribbon, cuff and waist band for getting visual focus. The represented three-colored arrangement is white Jeogori and navy blue Chima with red breast-tie. It is a perfect visual color combination. The color of Han-bok was inherited a traditional color and the combination of neutral color was balanced. It was a refinable coloration system according to a difference of value and chroma. It means that a color sensation and arrangement of Korean have been developed by our unique climate, nations and the culture which has been formed for a long times.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the harmony of contrast coloration of the traditional Korean dress as the subject of the study for women's college students in Korea and America. The sense of harmonious coloration for 64 colorations was evaluated based on a yellow and a green Korean jackets, to be contrast colorization, by combining four different tones, vivid, light, dull, and dark tones in a purple and a blue skirt with a yellow jacket, a red and a purple skirt with a green jacket. We tried to make sure of the cultural difference by the distinction in the perception of women's college students. in Korea and America. The result of the study is as follows. In the contrast coloration of a yellow jacket with a purple and a blue skirt, Korean women students, generally, perceived that the coloration that skirt is more dark than jacket, dull and dark tone is harmonious. On the other hand, American women students perceived harmonious skirt tone is various depending on the jacket tones. In the coloration of a green jacket and a red skirt, the women students of two countries are in common that the coloration of a vivid skirt with a vivid, a dull, and a dark jacket are harmonious. However, Korean women students indicated that a light jacket with a dark tone skirt as a harmonious coloration. American women students evaluated that various tones of coloration as a harmonious coloration. In the coloration of a green jacket and a purple skirt, Korean women students perceived that the coloration is incompatible coloration. American women students perceived the coloration is congruous in the coloration of a dull and a dark tone jacket and skirt. In the response of the perception for 64 contrast coloration, Korean students evaluated 14 sets and American students judged 28 sets as harmonized colors. Therefore, it drew the conclusion that Korean students had the sense of harmonious coloration of more narrow range than American students. There was a difference between two cultures in the standard far contrast coloration.

In this research, in order to find out the effect of the area ratio in the harmonic sense assessment of the coloration of Korean clothes, the coloration of a Korean jacket and a skirt was compounded with a similar coloration and a contrast coloration. The respondents were asked to evaluate 16 stimuli of the traditional Korean skirt and jacket with the coloration of the Korean jacket/ skirt, the skirt/ Korean jacket was separately compounded to be 4 tones such as vivid, light, dull, dark. The subjects were 44 female undergraduate students. The results of each can be summerized as follows. As to similar coloration, the korean yellow jacket and red skirt, Korean students feel vivid and dull tone was harmonious, and American students feel vivid, light, and dark tone were harmonious coloration. In inversed case, red korean jacket and yellow skirt, both countries' students recognized that the vivid tone was harmonious. Korean students gave higher points to korean traditional dress in similar coloration such as yellow korean jacket which was small area and red skirt which was large area coloration than inversed color area ratio which red korean jacket and yellow skirt. As to contrast coloration, the korean green jacket and red skirt, Korean students feel vivid tone was harmonious, and American students feel vivid, dark tone were harmonious coloration. In inversed case, red korean jacket and green skirt were recognized that any tone was not harmonious for both countries' students. Both countries of student showed the culture gap. Compared with American students, Korean students were familiar with korean dress's traditional coloration, as a result familiar coloration was recognized harmonious coloration.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of tone-on-tone coloration on the visual images of traditional Korean dress. The materials in the experiment developed for this study were made up of various stimuli and the response scales for each stimulus. The stimuli were 48 color pictures with various combination of colors, in which the tones of jackets and skirts were manipulated by computer drawing. 24 bi-polar adjectives, each of which was graded into seven in its degree, were used to evaluate each image. The subjects were 576 female students in Jinju City. This experiment was based on the $3{\times}4{\times}4$ factorial designs: color (red, yellow and green), jacket tone (vivid, light, dull and dark) and skirt tone (vivid, light, dull and dark). The results of the study can be summarized as follows; Impression factor of the stimuli consisted of the 5 different dimensions - youthfullness and activity, attractiveness, gracefullness, visibility, and tenderness. The colors and the tone of jackets and skirts used in this experiment influenced 5 impression dimension by interaction of two valuables or working independently. Yellow and green with vivid or light tone had an effect on the formation of youth and activity image, and dark-light combination had an effect on the formation of attractiveness image. In case of green color, light tone of a jacket and vivid or dull tone of a skirt affected gracefulness, while yellow has no impact on visibility image regardless of skirt tone. Red and yellow with vivid or light tone were a factor to decide tenderness.

The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of a chromatic Korean jacket and an achromatic Korean skirt on the visual image of a traditional Korean dress wearer. This experiment was designed to the 3 factors which were composed of 3 colors(red, yellow, green), 4 jacket tones(vivid, light, dull, dark), and 4 skirt colors(N9, N7, N4, N2). The 288 students in Gyeongsang National University assessed the 48 stimuli which wear variously incorporated with colors and tones by a semantic differential scale of 7-point: The results of the study were as follows. Image factors of stimuli are youth and activity, gracefulness, visibility, and tenderness. Among these, youth and activity factors, and gracefulness factors proved to be important. The colors and tones of a jacket and a skirt used in this experiment showed that the colors and tone had an effect on dimension of 4 images by interacting of two valuables or working independently. While a yellow jacket with vivid and a white(N9) skirt had a significant effect on youth and activity factors, a red jacket and a dark- gray(N4), -black(N2) skirt were evaluated as a graceful image. In the red jacket case, a visible factor was considerably different according to skirt tones. Only jacket tones worked as a striking clue in a tenderness factor.

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of three clothing cues(jacket color, skirt color, and tone of Korean dress) on the image of Korean dress wearer using tone-in-tone coloration. The experimental materials developed for this study are a set of stimuli and response scales. The stimuli are 16 color pictures manipulated with three clothing cues by drawing. The 7-point scale designed for visual evaluation of female impression formation includes 24 bipolar adjectives. The subjects were 192 undergraduate female students in Chinju city. The results of this study are as follow: As analyzing the image of female figure by the jacket color, skirt color, and tone, three factors including youth activity, attractiveness, and visibility were identified. Among these factors, youth activity and attractiveness were proved to be more important. Each dimensional image was affected by color coordination of jacket color, skirt color and tone of korean dress. Therefore, the image of Korean dress wearer could be varied by color coordination of jacket color, skirt color and tone of Korean dress.

Modern Hanbok tends to use new colors based on traditional colors and their symbolic meanings. In addition to the traditional colors, various expressions have been increased, it is necessary to consider the color and color trend used in modern clothing. This study focused on the period 2011 - 2020 and analyzed the main color and coloring method of top and skirt by year with 450 data from a total of 81 wedding magazines. The results of examining the characteristics of traditional colors during the target period are as follows. First, the main color of the Jeogori showed a distribution of various colors in the first half, but the main color of the skirt concentrated on black, white and light pink in the second half. Second, while the use of blue and green systems decreased, Dang-ui color changed to warm yellow, green, and red systems. The Baeja used plain dark white in the first half; however in the latter half, they changed to white or accented colors. The one-piece used various colors in the first half, but only black and white appeared in the second half. Third, in the upper and lower colors of Hanbok, the blue-red color, the traditional contrast color of the first half, decreased significantly in the second half. The appearance rate of proximity for the complementary color harmony of white-red color and the adjacent color harmony of white-blue increased.

This study aims to identify how Korean women's traditional costume, Hanbok, has changed according to the times in terms of color coordination of Jeogori and Chima. Photos had been taken at wedding places and streets at 5 major cities(Seoul, Pusan, Kwangju, Daejon, Jeju) at two weekends of each season in 1999, 2001, and 2003. Total 1617 photos were used as final data. Data were analyzed by hue coordination and value level. Hue coordination exist in one-color and two-color coordination. In one-color coordination, red color(R & RP) was the most frequently used and blue green(BG) was the next, and the least was blue purple(BP) for each year. In value scale, high level was the most frequent and followed by middle level and low level. Pink was the most preferred color for one-color coordination. In two-color coordination, white and blue were widely used for Jeogori and red and blue far chima for each year, which seemed to be the basic color coordination for Jeogori and Chima. While there was a certain basic color coordination types across year, but a few new color coordination appeared each year and maintained as popular color coordination for one or two year.
