  • An academic performance can advance the expectations that lead to academic success. The purpose of this study was to research the relationship of the variables; past performance, the ability to use information technology, outcome expectations, grade goal of studies, and study performance in an information technology course. Participants completed a background questionnaire, the Information Technology Proficiency Exam, the scale of the ability using computer, and the Technology Outcome scale. Based on path model results, the findings suggest that students' academic performance is related to past performance. Consistent with theory, the findings suggest that the studies performance is influenced by ability using information technology via the establishment of the grade goal of studies. In the present study, the past performance variable failed to predict an academic studies performance when impacted by outcome expectations.

A hypothetical model proposed openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism as independent variables, and self-regulation learning and achievement with gifted education as dependent variables. Stepwise regression analysis indicated that openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness significantly predicted self-regulation learning. Also, neuroticism, selfregulation learning, and extraversion significantly impacted achievement with gifted education. openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness showed that complete mediating effects through self-regulation learning to achievement. A foundation for improving learning strategies in a successful gifted education program can be constructed on the basis of the results of this study.

  • This study examined the role of trait anxiety in the relationships among academic contingencies of self-worth, self-esteem, academic help-seeking, and academic concealment. The participants were 254 male and female undergraduate students, and the analyses were conducted using PASW 18.0. The results were as follows. Anxiety was confirmed to be a mediating variable between the academic contingencies of self-worth, self-esteem, and academic concealment. That is, the academic contingencies of self-worth and self-esteem had an effect on academic concealment through anxiety. On the other hand, the academic contingencies of self-worth had a positive effect on anxiety. On the other hand, self-esteem had a negative effect on anxiety. The need to develop education and counseling approaches as a special intervention is discussed. The approaches are meant to reduce the academic self-worth and anxiety. In addition, it is important to promote self-esteem in education and counseling. The limitations and implication for further study are suggested.

  • This paper examines a spatial pattern and processes of academic achievement in deprived area, considering relationship between academic achievement and social deprivation as social context. It links academic achievement data with neighborhood data from the 2001 UK Census(by ward) in South East England and uses multiple regression modeling to estimate the contribution of social deprivation to academic achievement of primary schools. The findings suggest that there is a significant positive relationship between deprivation in the local residential environment and academic achievement in primary schools. It also argues that more deprived area in South East England would tend to promote greater inequality of academic achievement in the spatial aspects, relating to Key Stage 2 score.
