The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of the school libraries from the teachers who work for the school libraries in rural area. Data were collected by survey and interview. The results shows that the role of school libraries is the place of reading instruction and leisure. Students can expand their experience for social life through using information media. Also, it is emphasized that the school libraries in the rural area should have the role of cultural place with local residents. Finally, the study provides several programs: flexible library scheduling, academic achievement programs, liberal art programs, and cultural place programs.

It Is time to spur on the activation of the school library based on 'The Master Plan for Promoting School Library : Making Good School Library' launched by the Korean Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development in 2002. This study is about the introduction of reading motivation and incentive programs in the school libraries in the USA. The schools in the USA have been developing activation methods of the school library through various reading motivation and incentive programs. As a matter of fact, these reading motivation and incentive programs have been expanded by the commercial assistance, computerized tests, state supports, and each school's programs based on the national reading promotions. Consequently, this research is trying to find ways of activation for the school libraries in Korea through the reading motivation and incentive programs of the school libraries in the USA.

The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends of school library reading programs. Articles on school library reading programs were searched in four major library and information science journals and two journals specialized in reading, which resulted in total 138 papers. First article was published as early as in 1978, and after a long lull period, researches began to mushroom in 2002 and proliferated between 2013 and 2015. To identify reading programs by type, research on curriculum-linked programs including library assisted instruction and information literacy instruction accounted for 44.9%, whereas programs for promoting library use and reading interest provoking came up with a small research volume. Interdisciplinary convergence involving Korean language education fields and library and information science fields, more concern for developing useful school library reading programs and curriculum-linked programs.

This study investigated librarians' perception and preference of cultural programs in the field of cooperation between school and public libraries. The findings are as follows: 1) Librarians and teacher librarians at school and public libraries perceive the importance of cultural programs in library service. 2) Online space was mostly preferred as a means of PR activities by librarians and teacher librarians at school and public libraries. 3) The preferred methods to cooperate projects between school libraries and public libraries were to implement programs through public librarians' field visiting, and to participate linkage program customized to individual school libraries. 4) Preferred types of cooperation were to sign MOU and to make a cooperative system between school libraries and public libraries.

The purpose of this research is to identify critical factors for facilitating school library reading programs and to develop guidelines for school library development. For this. relevant studies including several school library case studies were reviewed and analyzed. Also a survey was conducted for school library personnel. The survey findings showed that there was still lack of consensus on defining school library reading programs or school library use programs. Moreover, it is also found that in most cases school libraries neither have professional school librarians nor provide appropriate training to them. As a result it is recommended that for developing effective reading programs, school libraries need to fix the current problems and try to develop collection development plans for supporting reading programs, in cooperation with classroom teachers to develop library reading programs as a part of the curriculum. and ultimately with local public libraries.

In information society, enhancing information literacy is a common goal of the academic and school libraries. The purpose of this study is to research and determine a systematic operating method for analyzing vacation reading guidance programs in school library systems and, thereby, suggesting ways of operating a reading guidance program both effectively and efficiently. Analyses of questionnaires going out to hundred of school libraries in Gyeonggi Province will be performed for this purpose. Specifically, the study will analyze the following 1) the current operation status of each program, 2) their initial purposes and focus, 3) targeted children groups, 4) program instructors, and 5) the actual content design of the programs. As a result, the vast majority of the school libraries operation of vacation reading guidance program and purpose of inspire of reading interest. Finally this study suggests the 5 directions to support operation of vacation reading guidance program in School Libraries. The results of this study will likely suggest the need to re-align or shift current vacation reading guidance programs to be more inclusive for all participants.

This study has a purpose of understanding residents' and librarians' perception on the role of school library as local reading cultural center. For this purpose, we conducted survey on the residents' in schools located in Gyeonggi-do, Korea whose library is open to local community and conducted telephone interview with librarians in these school libraries. The study results can be summarized as follows. First, most of the residents' perceived that reading cultural programs of school library are necessary and showed positive satisfaction on the currently running reading cultural programs. Moreover, the residents' perceived that the reading cultural programs had positive impact on the activation of school library. Second, although librarians in charge of school library were aware of the importance of the role of school library as local cultural center, it was shown that school library was not providing diverse reading cultural programs due to budget insufficiency.

The study goals are establishing a library management plan for the school for the blind in Korea and also developing a structured library program, which reflected the patron's perception. We surveyed the students in three schools for the blind to identify their perception and usage statistics of the libraries. The analysis of the survey led to a school library program framework consisting of four types. To verify the applicability and effectiveness of the framework, we designed ten programs to meet the needs of the schools by consulting respective school's teachers. We administered the second survey after the classes, and we found that there were positive increases in the frequency of library use, a number of books read, perception about the libraries, amount of information used, and self-directed learning willingness.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the principles of school library media center program and to finds out present level and future outlook of the program implementation in primary and middle school. The fundamental objective of school is learning and school library functions as a link to support this objective. Therefore quality of education must always be linked to the library media programs. A questionaire which consists of 13 questions covering school library media center operation was designed to final out how learning-teaching media program is being practiced in Korea. Based on this study, it is concluded that there is significant difference between present practice level and desired future-oriented practice. It is hoped that this study will help planners in formulating school library policy to achieve educational goal of the school.
