  • In our information society, ICT education is becoming basic and fundamental task that many countries are putting emphasis on it, considering it as "the most important step in reformation of education." ICT education have many differences in many countries. Currently, we are considering the suggestions for ICT education in Korea, and through comparative analysis of ICT education in Turkey, a country which has similar economic and cultural conditions, we will provide helpful solutions on ICT education policy for mutual countries. For an objective comparative analysis. we used the PISA 2009 and PISA 2012 data. The results show that Korea is has a better and easy access to computer at home only. Accessability to information devices in school, computer use in schools, and the students aptitudes on using the devices were excelled by Turkey. General attitudes about computers was similar, but Turkey proved to be better at utilizing computers in schools settings. With these findings, Korea must redefine current ICT education policies and establish policies for activating the ICT education nationwide.

  • In the 21st century knowledge and information society, students' ICT skills is a necessary tool. So, the OECD PISA survey and compares students' ICT skills across OECD countries by every three years. As a result, we are looking forward to reflecting on education. In this study, I analyzed the 2009 and 2012 PISA ICT statistics. Analysis items are as follows. Is any of these devices available for students to use at home or at school? How often do students use a computer for following activities at school? Analysis tools adopted a method to compare the ratios of the average. The results are as follows. In 2008, five items of availability of ICT at schools were evenly by five groups In 2012, all five items is very low group. Except for one of the eight items of use of ICT at school, and all items are the lowest group. In 2012, all eight items are the lowest group. Korea ICT indicators have been very down in 2012 than in 2009.

  • This study was performed to evaluate tannin exposure by wooddusts for workers in furniture factories and to investigate the relationship between tannin exposure and sino-nasal cancer risk. In order to explore possible cytological changes leading to nasal cancer, we have examined 50 male furniture workers and 50 matched controls using brush cytology. The results we have obtained in this study were as follows: 1. The tannin contents of woods used in woodworking factories have been measured and varied from 0.43 to 8.72 mg tannic acid equivalent per gram wood, for reconstituted softwood and turpentine (Syncarpia glomuliferia) respectively. 2. Airborne tannins in wooddusts were also determined by area and personal exposure. The values of mean exposures for both methods are ranged from 3.1 to $5.0{\mu}g/m^3$ and from 4.6 to $14.5{\mu}g/m^3$ in furniture manufactures. 3. Over nasal cytology scores 2, the scores of study group were slightly more than control group and this kind of metaplasias seemed to be occurred over $2mg/m^3$ wooddust and $6{\mu}g/m^3$ tannin exposure. Keratinising squamous metaplasia was investigated at nasal cytology score 3 and $10{\mu}g/m^3$ tannin exposure. The nasal cytology score 4 was seemed to be atypical squamous metaplasia. 4. To find out contributing factors to nasal cytology change, odds ratio that is one of fundmental biostatistics was applied. Actually the relationship between wooddust, tannin concentration and metaplasia were not meaningful, but the relationship between working experence more than 15 years and metaplasia was calculated as 1.83. This reveals that significant clinical abnormalities could be influenced from the years of woodworking experiences. However further research is required to evaluate the significance of the data, for the purposes of sino-nasal risk assessment, standard setting to prevent nasal cancer occurrences and possibility of changing workplace.

  • Occupational asthma is commonly known to be induced by isocyanate exposure. Spray painters generally use isocyanates for 2-pack spray painting to coat wooden panel surfaces in the furniture industry in South Australia. Due to a lack of actual exposure data, this study conducted environmental and dermal/ocular monitoring from a company in the furniture industry. According to this study, there was no significant airborne contamination, due to the use of high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray guns, low concentration of hardener in paint solutions and appropriate respirator like full face-air line respirator. There was no significant HDI detection in the general work area around the spray booths. Owing to the use of disposable nitrile gloves during the spray painting, no significant dermal exposure was found. According to color monitoring, there was a possible dermal exposure from surfaces in the workplace, unless either protective gloves were worn or appropriate working practices like clean-up process and storage in a secure places. No eye contamination was detected from the spray painters. No significant exposure levels from inhalational, dermal, ocular were found. The area of most concern was work practices.

  • It is in the vortex of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in all areas of our society. Education is no exception. We all know that software is at the center of the education in the 4th industry revolution. It is very important for students to survey the ICT background in order to be good at software education. The OECD PISA has surveyed ICT background of students in a three-year cycle from 2003. This study analyzes PISA ICT statistical data based on the data released in April 2017. We compare and analyze the availability and usability items among the 81 items of the ICT background of the students. The results of linear regression analysis showed that Korea was the lowest among OECD countries. ICT availability is ranked 28 out of 30 countries and ICT usability is ranked 31 out of 31 countries. This reflects the fact that ICT education is not implemented in the country since 2008. For the students who will be the leaders of the future society, ICT education that had implemented in 2000 should be carried out quickly.

  • Software education will be implemented in elementary schools in Korea since 2019. Although 17 hours of software education is provided, it is necessary for preliminary teachers to have basic ICT skills in training software education. Therefore, it is necessary to objectively compare the basic ICT literacy of preliminary teachers in Korea. This study examines the ICT of preliminary teachers based on the OECD PISA 2015 questionnaires. The contents of the survey compares and analyzes ICT availability and usability items of students. Comparisons are made with students from OECD countries. ICT usability at school was the highest at 2.56, followed by ICT availability at school at 2.4. The third was high at 2.38 for using school works outside the school. Availability outside the school was low at 2.33, and the lowest at school was very low at 1.79. It is necessary for the preliminary teachers to have the ICT ability for the students who will be the protagonists of the future society and the ICT education which can be utilized in each subject in addition to the ICT education in the curriculum of the education college in order to raise the ability.

  • Extended Depth of Focus (EDF) algorithms for extracting three-dimensional (3D) information from a set of optical image slices are studied by many researches recently. Due to the limited depth of focus of the microscope, only a small portion of the image slices are in focus. Most of the EDF algorithms try to find the in-focus area to generate a single focused image and a 3D depth image. Inherent to most image processing algorithms, the EDF algorithms need parameters to be properly initialized to perform successfully. In this paper, we select three popular transform-based EDF algorithms which are each based on pyramid, wavelet transform, and complex wavelet transform, and study the performance of the algorithms according to the initialization of its parameters. The parameters we considered consist of the number of levels used in the transform, the selection of the lowest level image, the window size used in high frequency filter, the noise reduction method, etc. Through extended simulation, we find a good relationship between the initialization of the parameters and the properties of both the texture and 3D ground truth images. Typically, we find that a proper initialization of the parameters improve the algorithm performance 3dB ~ 19dB over a default initialization in recovering the 3D information.

  • Exposure to HDI(hexamethylene di-isocyanate) commonly used in vehicle crash repair workshops remains a leading cause of occupational asthma. Although skin and eye contamination are considered as absorption routes, there are no occupational exposure standards for skin and ocular exposure. This is the reason why there are more empirical data should be provided. Therefore this study was to determine contamination levels of HDI on the skin, eyes, work surfaces, respirators and eye protectors. There was evidence of contamination on a variety of work surfaces, for example, door handles, bench top and spray gun, etc. A high proportion(47~80%) of skin wipe samples from neck, forehead, back hand, palm and wrist was positive for HDI contamination, even though spray time was relatively brief. The contamination levels from spraying inside spray booth were generally higher than outside booth due to poor work practices and inappropriate personal protective use like safety gloves. Apprentices had higher exposure levels than the qualified painters, likely due to lack of the recognition of safety and hygiene. The extent of contamination inside the PPE might provide an indication of the potential for respiratory & skin exposure and ocular exposure. Eye fluid samples from 4 out of 14 workers had the positive detection of HDI contamination, due to poor work practices like no or inappropriate eye protection. Considering the potential for dermal & ocular exposure to contribute to possible health symptoms including respiratory sensitization, the empirical data point to a need for improving work practices and appropriate PPE selection, use and maintenance.
