  • This paper presents a novel linearization scheme for a nonlinear RF amplifier It is based on the amplitude modulation with envelope signal. The 3rd order distortion generator is composed of two FETs and it adopts a balanced structure for the purpose of main carrier cancellation. The amplitude and phase of the IM3 component can be controlled at RF band. This predistorter is implemented and tested at the KOREA PCS Tx. band (1840∼1870MHz). Experimental results of two-tone test show that the IM3 cancellation is achieved about 30-40 ㏈ for the wide dynamic range. The adjacent channel power ratio is improved by over 10 ㏈ at the broad-band CDMA signal with a peak to average power ratio of l0㏈, and this improvement is maintained through a wide range of output power levels.

  • This paper describes the design of a wideband cascode amplifier using a feedback network and microwave small-signal transistors. The adopted cascode structure enables the miller effect to be lessened, cutoff frequency to increase, and reduction of gain in the mid-band to be mitigated. In addition, a feedback network is added to the cascode structure to improve the input matching and ripple performances over the wide operating band. The designed cascode amplifier contains a feedback network for small size and broadband amplification, whereas balanced amplifiers and distributed amplifiers have been used widely. The measurement shows $8.5dB{\pm}1.5dB$ of gain over 1000-2000MHz. The fabricated cascode amplifier has more than 8dB of gain over a 1000MHz bandwidth with a good flatness. The measured performances agree with the predicted ones even a minor shift in operating frequency is observed.

  • This paper presents the Doherty power amplifier with a digitally controlled analog predistorter circuit of Scintera Corp. to produce high power efficiency and high linearity performance. The analog predistorter improves the linearity performance because of controlling amplitude and phase values of input signal in order to improve intermodulation performance of power amplifier. Also, the power amplifier is designed by the Doherty technology to obtain the high efficiency performance. To validate the Scintera's analog predistorter, we are implemented the power amplifier with Doherty method at center frequency 2150 MHz. Compared with the balanced amplifier, the power amplifier is improved above 11% enhanced efficiency and more than 15 dB ACPR improvement.

  • The load-insensitivity of the balanced power amplifier(PA) for W-CDMA handset applications is analyzed. The load impedances of the two parallel amplifiers in the balanced PA depending on the output load mismatch are mathematically calculated and with the result, the phase of reflection coefficient at which the linear output power is severely degraded is investigated. From the analysis, we proposed that the linearity of the balanced PA at the phase can be improved by properly increasing the transistor size and thus, multiple balanced PA's with different transistor size are designed and simulated. The simulation result showed that the balanced PA with larger transistor size has improved linear output power under VSWR=4:1.

  • A linear power amplifier is particular emphasized on the CDMA system using a linear modulation scheme, because intermodulation distortion which cause adjacent channel interference and co channel interference is mostly generated in a nonlinear power amplifier. In this paper, a new type of linearization technique proposed. It is presented that balanced MESFET predistortion linearizer added. Experimental result are present for Korea PCS(Personal Communication Service) frequency band. The implemented linearizer is applied to a 30dBm class A power amplifier for simulation Performance. The predistortion linearizer improves the 1dB compression point of the HPA about 2dBm, and intermoudulation distortion about 12.5dBc.

  • The low noise and balanced amlifier has been designed by using PBG. Usually balanced LNAis used to matching the input and output mismatching that caused by matching the low noise matching point. And the PBG supresses the harmoincs. This paper proposed balanced LNA by using PBG. And this configuration improve the performance - noise figure, VSWR.

  • This paper describes a design of dual band balanced amplifier using a lefted handed meta-material transmission line structure for high frequency application. Meta-material transmission lines have been known to have dual band frequency responses. A dual band branch line hybrid coupler is designed using the meta-material transmission lines, and measured at first. Two identical dual band amplifiers are also designed, built and tested using the same meta-material transmission structure. The proposed dual band balanced amplifier is composed of those dual band branch line hybrid coupler and amplifiers. In order to suggest an design example, a prototype of dual band balanced amplifier is built and measured at the dual frequencies, 1800MHz($f_1$) and 2300MHz($f_2$). The simulation and measurement show that the fabricated balanced amplifier operates well at the desired dual frequencies bands with the gain of 11.12dB and 17.67dB at $f_1$ and $f_2$, respectively, with a good agreement with the simulation results.

  • The balanced amplifier is a practical amplifier to, implement a broadband amplifier that has flat gain and good input and output VSWR. Three-stage amplifier design procedure usually divided into three partition satisfying the following requirements : low noise figure, high gain and high power output. FHX35LG HEMT device is used in the design can be obtained low noise figure at the first-stage, MGA82563 MMIC device is used in the design can be maintained high gain at the second-stage, and AHI MMIC device is used in the design can be required high power output at the third-stage. The results of three-stage balanced amplifier show that power gain is about 40㏈, noise figure is less than 1.2㏈ at operating frequency.

  • This paper presents a very simple coupled line structure for MMIC which uses stacked microstrip line and does not employ any dielectric process step. For the analysis and optimization of these coupled line structure, HP-Momentum was used. The measured performance of 3 dB coupler shows 23 to 45 GHz broadband characteristics. Additionally, a balanced 2-stage Ka-Band power amplifier which uses the proposed 3 dB coupler, was also fabricated.

  • For the accuracy correction of the micro-positioning industrial robot, micro-manipulator has been devised. The compliant mechanisms using piezoelectric actuators is necessary geometrically and structurally to be developed by the optimization approaches. The overall geometric advantage as the mechanical efficiencies of the mechanism are considered as objective functions, which respectively art the ratio of output displacement to input force, and their constraints are the vertical notion of supporting leg and the structural strength of manipulation. In optimizing the compliant mechanical amplifier, the sequential linear programming and an optimality criteria method are used for the geometrical dimensions of compliant bridges and flexure hinges. This paper presents the integrated design process which not only can maximize the mechanism feasibilities but also can ensure the positioning accuracy and sufficient workspace. Experiment and simulation are presented for validating the design process through the comparisons of the kinematical and structural performances.
