  • The purpose of this paper was to understand the mediating effect of academic achievement on the relationship between youth activity participation and career decision-making in middle school students. To this end, data from the KCYPS2018 (Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018) were used, and this research proceeded with 2,471 middle school 1st grade students. This analysis method was a regression analysis to examine any mediating effect. And the findings are as follows. Middle school students' youth activities participation had a significant effect on career decision-making and academic achievement, and the effect of youth activities participation on career decision-making was mediated in part by academic achievement. Thus, a variety of youth activity programs should be developed and provided to middle school students to increase their motivation and academic achievement. Education and training for youth leaders and teachers should be provided to help middle school students make career decisions by operating youth activity programs in conjunction with the free semester system.

  • This paper investigates the effects of public R&D support on medium-sized firms' R&D investment. The paper collects a panel dataset of Korean manufacturing firms' R&D investment and public support, and employs the DID (difference-in-differences) regression for the test of stimulating or crowding-out effect. Empirical analysis examines how the effect of public R&D support differs between small and medium-sized firms and whether firm size and technological capability moderate the effect in the sample of medium-sized firms. Empirical results show that public R&D support tends to generally stimulate private pure R&D investment for both small and medium-sized firms. Comparing the results for small and medium-sized firms, this paper finds that the stimulating effect is relatively larger and more significant for medium-sized firms, while the effect is not significant for small ones. Furthermore, the paper shows that the stimulating effect of public R&D subsidy on private R&D investment is relatively stronger for medium-sized firms with superior technological competence and the effect of tax support is greater for incompetent firms. These results suggest that public R&D policies and R&D programs, differentiated from those for existing small firms, are necessary for medium-sized firms to stimulate private R&D continuously and formulated carefully by considering firm size, technological capability and growth potential.

  • The purpose of this study was to use the Korea Health Panel to determine how the mother's characteristic and household characteristic variables were associated with dental clinic use of children in childhood and adolescence. The logistic regression analysis found that mother's education level was statistically significantly positively correlated with underage child's dental clinic use and children in single-parent family were less likely to use a dental clinic than those in two-parent family. As for dental clinic use by diseases, the higher level of mother's education, the more likely to use a dental clinic due to dental caries and children in single-parent family were less likely to use a dental clinic due to dental caries than those in two-parent family. No difference in dental clinic use due to tooth extraction was found by any of mother's characteristics or household characteristics, probably because age has an absolute impact during the period between milk teeth and permanent teeth. Lastly, mother's education level and household income were significantly positively correlated with dental clinic use due to orthodontics. On the basis of these results, it is necessary to develop a customized strategy reflecting children's growth stages and household characteristics in making a plan for promoting oral health of children and adolescents.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of work-family conflict factors on depression in Korean married women. For the analysis of the research, we were used in the 5th year data of Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families. The subjects of this study were married women who were living with their husbands and wage workers, and the final analysis was 1,299. As a hierarchical regression analysis result, the work-family conflict of the working married women had a significant effect on depression. Especially, conflict from family to work has the highest effect on depression(${\beta}=.150$, p<0.01). This study suggests that traditional gender role pressures can have a negative impact on the mental health of working women. Therefore, it is necessary to take appropriate social policy measures to alleviate work-family conflicts of married working women.

The study sample was 2,609 persons (1,886 workers, 723 retirees) aged 45 or older who participated in the 1-2 waves of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA), and the retirees were classified into continuously dissatisfied retirees and satisfied retirees during wave 1 and 2. Using SPSS 21.0, the multiple regression models were examined, and in order to clarify the gender difference, the multi-group analysis and the wald-test were conducted to test the difference of the regression coefficients according to gender using Mplus 7.3. According to the results, the life satisfaction of dissatisfied retirees was lower than that of the employed, but when satisfied with retirement, the life satisfaction was higher than that of the employed. In addition, the dissatisfied retirees in both gender were less satisfied with life than the employed, and this effect was greater in female group. However, the life satisfaction of female satisfied with retirement was higher than that of the employed, whereas the evidence of the male influence was not found to be significant. Based on the results of this study, discussion about heterogeneity of retirees and gender differences in life span were presented.

Although household income types and sources are supposed to be important to the mental health of the old aged as well as income level, there have been little policy interests to them. This study analyze the relationship between the household income types & sources and the mental health of the old aged, using the 8th data from the Korean Welfare Panel Study. Major findings are as follows. First, we find that there are considerable variations in the household income sources composition among the old aged, and that types of household income are related to the individual and family features of the old aged. Second, the results of regression analyses show that the household income types are associated with the depression and self-respect of the old aged. And, we find that some income sources affects the mental health of the old aged. The results of this study suggest that there should be policy attentions to the mental health effects of the household income sources so as to increase the adequacy of the income security system for the aged in Korea.

  • If a company's actions to save or avoid taxes are judged to be tax evasion rather than legal tax action by the tax authorities, the company will not only pay tax but also non-tax costs such as damage to corporate image and stock price decline due to a series of tax evasion-related news articles. Therefore, this study measures the frequency of occurrence of tax evasion controversial keywords in internet news portal as a factor to measure the severity of the case, and analyzes the effect of the frequency of occurrence on corporate value. In the Korean stock market, we crawl related articles from internet news portal by using keywords that are controversial for tax evasion targeting top companies based on market capitalization, and generate a time series of the frequency of occurrence of keywords about tax evasion by company and analyze the effect of frequency of appearance on book value versus market capitalization. Through panel regression and impulse response analysis, it is analyzed that the frequency of appearance has a negative effect on the market capitalization and the effect gradually decreases until 12 months. This study examines whether the tax evasion issue affects the corporate value of Korean companies and suggests that it is necessary to take these influences into account when entrepreneurs set up tax-planning schemes.

  • In knowledge-based economy where the human capital has an strong compatibilities, the life cycle of technologies and skills get shorter, and the mobility of labor get greater, the role of the signal system of qualifications have greater importance. This article used the KLIPS(Korean Labor Institute Panel Study) data, and analysed the factors of the acquisition of qualifications and the employment and wage effects of the acquisition of qualifications by fixed effects logit model and random effects model. The lower school stratification acquired the more qualifications, and in the case of men the unemployed one acquired the more qualifications. The employment effects of the acquisition of qualifications are significant at first year and second year in women, but the men's of the employment effects of acquisition of qualifications are not significant. The wage effects of the acquisition of qualifications are not significant. The results of the regression suggest that in Korea the signal system of qualifications do not working, and that the qualifications in Korea need to reform.

For this, this study categorized child care type into types including home nurturing, child care center, and subtypes of each category. The findings of multiple regression analysis using the first-third wave data of Panel Study of Korean Children(PSKC) are as follows. First, the child care center experience had rather positive effect on the development of all abilities in the infants comparing to home nurturing. Second, the time of attending child care center was differently related to the development of motor, communication, and personal-social skill in infanthood. Finally, the accreditation of child care showed a difference only in terms of social development of infants. In conclusion, even if the experience of using child care center has positive impact on infant's developmental level, it is still in need of improving service quality such as reinforcing accreditation system.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the individual, emotional, parent, and social environmental factors on career decision-making in multicultural youth. To this end, 1,146 multicultural adolescents who were enrolled in high school and whose fathers were Korean were selected as subjects of analysis as data for the 7th year of the Multicultural Youth Panel (MCAPS). As a result, first, it was found that self-esteem, which was an individual factor, and adaptation to school life and multicultural acceptance, which are social and environmental factors, positive effect career decision-making. Second, it was found that depression as an emotional factor and neglect as a parent factor had a negative effect on career decision-making. However, it was confirmed that stress as an individual factor, and parent-child communication as a parent factor did not affect career decision-making. These results are meaningful in that they provided basic data on how to deal with each factor and prevent multicultural youths from wandering in advance without deciding their career paths.
