This study develops a day-to-day dynamics modeling framework, incorporating a consistent drivers' travel time perception behavior and traffic information provision. Descriptive traffic information is updated and provided to the subscribers making a final decision on route choice. Nonsubscribers(not equipped any information devices) are assumed to obtain daily traffic information from their experience or friends or other public agencies. Drivers' route choice behavior is modeled based on boundedly-rational behavior rules. A microscopic traffic simulation model is adopted to evaluate the network system performance. Numerical experiments on a real world network have demonstrated the convergent property of the proposed model and the effectiveness of the consistent perception model.

This study presents preferences factors analysis of Car-sharing in Suwon. Approximately, 60% of the citizens prefer car-sharing and consider using it. The results of analysis by factors show higher preferences in these groups of travelers: man, younger, a resident of detached house and efficiency apartment, user of public transportation who finds it uncomfortable, traveler without vehicles, and traveler using car 1 to 3 times a week. The potential demand for car-sharing was highest in the residential areas and around the stations. Travelers prefer to pay the fee by the hour, which the fair value was 7,967 won. For the trip purpose of business, shopping and leisures, car-sharing is more preferred than taxi and rental cars. Findings will contribute to determining the direction of policy for the car-sharing.
The expressway network includes a total of about 1,899 km in our country The only 1,016 km of that is being managed by the closed Toll Collection System(TCS) which is composed of 74 tollgates. We obtain inter-tollgate O-D matrices from that system everyday. But, they are not traffic-zonal O-D matrices. So they have not been used for the expressway traffic analysis and the traffic demand estimation despite of their accuracy. If we could estimate the traffic-zonal O-D matrices from TCS O-D ones, we could perform expressway traffic analysis more efficiently. Moreover we could obtain more precise expressway O-D matrices and traffic-zonal O/D ones by this approach than by the conventional ones. In this paper. we proposed the model estimating traffic-zonal O/D matrices from TCS O-D ones. The assigned volumes with the estimated traffic-zonal O-D matrices produced the only 17.9% error all over the TCS expressway section when compared to the real traffic volumes. So, the proposed model enables for us to estimate more accurate O/D matrics than any other existing methods.
Pedestrians and vehicle users should be treated with equal importance in urban street design. However, current street design suggests that the design criteria for sidewalks is based on the functional hierarchy of the vehicles, therefore it is necessary to develop sidewalk design standards that give more weight to pedestrians rather than vehicles. For this, this study suggests that the level of service of pedestrians should be considered in the process of designing sidewalks. Currently, level of service (LOS) criteria for pedestrians in the Korean Highway Capacity Manual are based on pedestrian volume, but the volume of pedestrians is seldomly estimated in practice. So, the current LOS criteria has limitations in terms of practical use. Also, the study assumes that the pedestrian flow rate is hardly the dominant factor that could affect the LOS of pedestrians at most urban sidewalks. In this context, the study considers a new LOS for sidewalk design based on the comfort of pedestrians while passing pedestrians coming from the opposite direction. Then the study attempts to link the new LOS criteria to the land use patterns using data of pedestrian traffic characteristics acquired from the field. In addition to this, the scope in which the suggested criteria can be applied is suggested.
This paper investigates the rail service patterns by train class. The emphasis in intercity rail planning is to more efficiently use of existing station facilities. Rail transit operations are affected by the system layout and ridership patterns and by work rules. Operations are also influenced by past practices and the institutional setting. Main factors to decide train service patterns are the location, socioeconomic characteristics, land use and travel demand of the station. In this context, the travel demand of intercity rail station is of crucial significance. Tests on a KTX case shows that train service frequency can be efficiently decreased in weekday to transport the same passenger demand. The work has shown many subjects that need further research including various factors influencing on train frequency. This study serves the railroad authorities in planning and determining business strategy in the increasingly competitive environment of regional rail transport.

This study analyzes the time-space variability for the weekly passenger flow of the Seoul Subway system based on the dynamic visualization methods. For the purpose, we utilize one-week T-card transaction databases. By applying data mining algorithms, we extract passenger data for edge flows, on/off passengers at each subway station per minute interval time. It is practically intractable to analyze such spatio-temporal passenger flows by general statistical techniques. We employ dynamic visualization methods to analyze intuitively and to grasp effectively characteristics of the diurnal passenger flows on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system during one week. As the result, we found that substantial differences exist on the spatio-temporal distribution patterns among days as well as between weekdays and weekend. We also investigates the time-space variability among eight major centers, and we found wide differences in their spatio-temporal distribution patterns.
The Korea high speed train was launched from Seoul to Busan of 1st construction phase at 1st April, 2004. This huge project will be lead to a great change in korean society such as existing mode choice behavior change and the concentrating on KTX station zone lifestyle pattern's change. With the result to opening high speed train railway was diminished train journey time between Seoul to Busan from 4 hours 10 minute to 2 hours 40 minutes, and has been change population movement, favorite location of corporation headquarters, existing metropolitan transportation pattern and so on. In the middle of this study, I choose to analyse Seoul-Cheonan/Asan stations, Seoul-Deajeon stations, Seoul-Deagu stations, Seoul-Pusan stations. This study have a information to analyse among as like movement of population, status of employee structure, usage of land, movement inland transportation mode. I sure that this study will lead to helpful prediction both 2nd phase of Kyoung-bu high-speed railway and Ho-nam high-speed railway in advance.

Recently, our local governments are conducting the introduction of tram system because it is recognized as an effective public transit that can solve a traffic jam in downtown, decreasing public transit share and environmental issues in world wide cities. We developed the Active Priority Control Strategy to efficiently operate a tram in our existing traffic signal system. This study organized the tram system for operating the Active Priority Signal Control, developed the algorithm that calculates a tram-stop dwell time in order to pass the downstream intersection without a stop. The dwell time is determined by arrival time at tram-stop, downstream signal time, and the location of a opposite tram, it can be reduced by choosing the optimal one among Signal Priority Controls. Using the VISSIM and VISVAP model, we conducted a simulation test for the city of Chang-won that it is expected to install a tram system. It showed that a developed signal control strategy is effective to prevent a tram's stop in intersections, to reduce a tram's travel time.

It is necessary to improve transfer impedance of express bus terminal users in order to increase the usage of public transportation. This study constructed a model for calculating transfer impedance based on bodily sensational transfer time in express bus terminal and calculated transfer impedance on major express bus terminals in Korea. The study results show that the addition of 100 meter exterior walking distance increases 3 minute travel time, 100 meter interior walking distance increases 5 minute travel time, 100 stairways increase 13 minute travel time, and escalators decreases 3 minute travel time. The calculated transfer impedance based on bodily sensational transfer time in this study can be utilized as objective criteria to compare transfer conditions of different bus terminals and to prioritize them for facility improvement. The calculated transfer impedance also can be used as facility guidelines for designing a new transit center.
