  • Since the publication of Foucault's Discipline and Punish, theatricality has become one of the key concepts in New Historicism. By defining theatricality as the most definitive feature of early modern society and culture, New Historicists have promoted the idea that theatrical practices in every day life were eventually replaced by textual practices as the western society started to undergo modernization with the advent of print culture and technologies. This paper questions this linear model of English literature, the shift of literary practices from theatricality to textuality in the event of modernization, by closely looking at the ways in which newsbooks and playlets during the English civil wars appealed to their target readers. The early print-based literary commodities during the English civil war (i.e. newsbooks and playlets) were able to win the attention of their audience not by breaking away from theatrical energy and creativity but instead by embracing and taking advantage of them through the use of dramatic conventions, dialogues, and many others. The newsbooks and the playlets during the time, however, did not simply replicate the dramatic forms and experiences of the previous generation. Instead, as the case study of Craftie Cromwell exemplifies, they went further to produce a different mode of theatricality by reshaping everyday lives into serialized drama, whose resolution is always already delayed and postponed into the ever-receding future. In conclusion, the study of the newsbook and playlets during the civil wars suggests that the textuality of modern times, materialized in print forms, have been co-evolved with the development of new theatricality, whose contents and forms are susceptible to the changes of everyday reality.

  • CAPTCHAs(Completely Automated Public Turing tests to tell Computer and Human Apart) have been widely used for preventing the automated attacks such as spam mails, DDoS attacks, etc.. In the early stages, the text-based CAPTCHAs that were made by distorting random characters were mainly used for frustrating automated-bots. Many researches, however, showed that the text-based CAPTCHAs were breakable via AI or image processing techniques. Due to the reason, the image-based CAPTCHAs, which employ images instead of texts, have been considered and suggested. In many image-based CAPTCHAs, however, the huge number of source images are required to guarantee a fair level of security. In 2008, Kang et al. suggested a new image-based CAPTCHA that uses test images made by composing multiple source images, to reduce the number of source images while it guarantees the security level. In their paper, the authors showed the convenience of their CAPTCHA in use through the use study, but they did not verify its security level. In this paper, we verify the security of the image-based CAPTCHA suggested by Kang et al. by performing several attacks in various scenarios and consider other possible attacks that can happen in the real world.

  • Investor mood from social media is gaining increasing attention for leading a price movement in stock market. Based on the behavioral finance theory, this study argues that sentiment extracted from social media using big data technique can predict a real-time (short-run) price momentum in Chinese stock market. Collecting Sina Weibo posts that related to COVID-19 using keyword method, a daily influential weighted sentiment factors is extracted from the sizable raw data of over 2 millions of posts. We examine one supervised and 4 unsupervised sentiment analysis model, and use the best performed word-frequency and BiLSTM mdoel. The test result shows a similar movement between stock price change and sentiment factor. It indicates that public mood extracted from social media can in some extent represent the investors' sentiment and make a difference in stock market fluctuation when people are concentrating on a special events that can cause effect on the stock market.

  • Web novels that are consumed on mobile devices are characterized by capturing one aspect of our society. The purpose of this study was to collect the keywords from web novels, to identify trends of web novels, and further to analyze the covert needs and characteristics of readers in connection with the existing researches. As a result of the analysis, novels with modern backgrounds and adult novels were popular in relation to easily readable and accessible mobile environment. Male characters tend to be ideally depicted in web novels. In contrast, characters with inner scars were popular among female characters. Although this study did not conduct an in-depth analysis of adult novels due to the limitation of web crawling, it is meaningful that this study analyzed modern people's inner needs and characteristics using the para-text like keywords in existing web novel studies that previously lacked quantitative analysis.

  • In this study, STEAM program on the subject of 'atmospheric circulation and surface current' was produced based on data and applied to 106 first-year high school students to analyze its effect and problem-solving processes. This program was organized to collect, refine, visualize, and analyze data and to allow communication processes to proceed based on these results. Using this, the concept of circulation in daily life was expanded from a global perspective to identify problems about circulation around the world. As a result of the application of the program, significant changes were identified in knowledge information processing competency. Also, significant changes were made in terms of convergence and creativity, which are sub categories among STEAM core competencies. It also sought to obtain suggestions for data-based STEAM education by analyzing students' responses in the form of a Text network.

  • This paper criticized that online classes during the Covid-19 period were centered on knowledge and information education, and sought ways to improve empathy as a way to improve students' sociality. The teaching-learning process was designed around the movie <(500) Days of Summer> which has the theme and story of parting and growth. On this paper the stage of empathy was divided into three stages, recognize-into, feeling-into, emotional-transaction stage. In particular, considering the process of transitioning from emotional empathy to behavioral empathy as the key to communication education, the class was designed in five stages, with an expression stage between the feeling-into stage and the emotional-transaction stage. This course is possible when learners sympathize with the work itself and reflect on their own narrative, so literary therapeutic was used, and students's response statements were collected to prove that this process is meaningful for improving empathy. In this article, the class was designed for the movie <(500) Days of Summer>, but this teaching-learning model can be applied to other contemporary film texts.

  • With the global pandemic of COVID-19, it is pointed out that exposure to false information to the public could cause serious problems. However, in pandemic situations, there is also an positive effect for the public to share private-led information rather than centralized unilateral delivery of information. This study analyzes the role of private-led information provision in infectious disease situations. To this end, topic modeling and sentiment analysis is carried out on online reviews of all COVID-19-related applications in Google Playstore provided by the Korean government and the private. The results showed that the user's evaluation of private apps, which were used from the early stage of COVID-19, was much higher than the apps provided by the government. In particular, users responded more positively to private apps than government apps in all aspects such as reliability of information, risk avoidance, timeliness, usefulness, and stability. Based on these results, a post-monitoring system is recommended rather than a pre-block of all private apps.

  • The film House of Hummingbird intersects Korean modern history and personal history through the eyes of a teenage girl, and closely explores how patriarchy and Korean capitalism leave traces and internal impressions on the growing up of the female subject. This film is a meaningful text in terms of showing what changes can occur when the subject is transformed from a boy to a girl in the narrative of growth and when a feminist point of view is entered. House of Hummingbird reveals the weakness of the patriarchal symbolic order through the gaze of a teenage girl in the episodic narrative composition, and also discovers the possibility of close relationships and bonds between women in the gaps. In particular, Yeong-ji, the main character girl Eun-hee's Chinese language school lecturer, is a new female character that has never been seen in Korean teenage films. As a result, in House of Hummingbird, we meet a new female subject who negotiates the pain of growth in a 'good enough' condition.
