  • This study aims to examine the effect of the combined application of green roof and PV system on the PV efficiency by measuring the temperature and performance of PV module in order to reduce the temperature on the roof using roof planting system and determine the potential of efficient increase in solar-light power generation. In the experimental methodology, either monocrystalline or polycrystalline PV module was installed in green roof or non-green roof, and then the surface temperature of PV was measured by TR-71U thermometer and again the performance, module body temperature, and conversion efficiency were measured by MP-160, TC selector MI-540, and PV selector MI-520, respectively. As a result, the average body temperature of monocrystalline module was lower by $6.5^{\circ}C$ in green roof than in non-green roof; that of polycrystalline module was lower by $8.8^{\circ}C$ in green roof than in non-green roof. In the difference of generation, the electricity generation of monocrystalline module in green roof was 46.13W, but that of polycrystalline module was 68.82 W, which indicated that the latter produced 22.69W more than the former.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the elements of measurement uncertainty on electrical performance test which are the most important things in photovoltaic module performance test. Repeating the performance test by 6 men, the measurement uncertainty could be calculated. In this experiment, Solar Simulator (A-Class pulse type) used for domestic certificate test of PV module is Pasan IIIb (Balval, Switzerland). The possible elements of the measurement uncertain that could effect electrical performance test of PV module are reference cell, spectrum correction, error from measurement repetition, test condition, stability and uniformity of artificial solar simulator. To find the measurement uncertainty, 6 men repeated the test by 10 times. And the results were that numerical average value was 124.44W and measurement uncertainty was $124.44W{\pm}0.36W$ with 95% confidence level for 125W PV module(KD-5125).

  • Recently, the installation of photovoltaic(PV) systems has been increasing due to the worldwide interest in eco-friendly and abundant solar energy. On the other hand, a PV system has approximately 25% power loss while the energy generated from solar cells is transformed to the power coupling point through a power conversion system (DC/AC). If the output voltage of a string in the PV system is lower than the operating range of the inverter when a part of module in the string has a shadow due to weather conditions, the string is not synchronized and the whole efficiency of output power in a PV system may be reduced significantly. Therefore, to overcome this problem, this paper proposes a novel control method to compensate for the lower voltage by introducing a DC/DC voltage regulator for each string in a PV system, which adopts a concept for MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) control function using the P&O algorithm and adopts constant voltage control method used in an existing inverter. This paper also implements a 2kW DC/DC voltage regulator based on the proposed algorithm and performs a variety of scenario-based experiments. From the simulation result, it was confirmed that the operation efficiency in the proposed method is improved compared to the existing method.

  • Crystalline silicon photovoltaic module certification began in 2007. "Renewable Energy Equipment Certification Scheme" was implemented until July 28, 2015. Then, the scheme was changed to "KS Certification Scheme" since July 29, 2015. A total of 2,331 models have been certified by 2016. The proportion of multi crystalline modules in certified products is higher than that of mono crystalline modules, and Korean modules account for 78% of the total certification modules. Chinese solar cells account for the highest percentage of 40% of the total modules and 62.4% of modules certified in 2016 use Chinese solar cells. With the development of technology, module power is continuously increasing, and efficiency is also rising. The average efficiency of mono crystalline module is 0.74% higher than the average of multi crystalline module. As a result of comparing domestic module with Chinese module, the highest efficiency of mono crystalline module and multi crystalline module and the average efficiency of mono crystalline module are higher than those of Chinese module, but the average efficiency of multi crystalline module is similar to that of Chinese module.

  • In this paper, we introduce the status of concentration photovoltaic system. Currently, crystalline silicon solar has 90% of total solar market. But in a few years, the concentration solar system is expected to be main one because cost increasement of silicon material is not stabilized unit now. At 2012, it will take 5% of the whole solar market. Less expensive, material requirement and high system efficiency give high driving force for intensive research on concentration system. It is time for us to initiate the basic study and evaluate the long term stability compared to crystalline silicon system. The detail discussion will be shown in the following paper.

  • Global warming is a very important problem as it causes rapid climate change and natural disasters. Therefore, researches related to renewable energy are being actively conducted while promoting policies such as reducing carbon dioxide emission and increasing the proportion of renewable energy. Solar power generation is being applied in urban areas like BIPV as well as existing idle areas outside the city. Therefore, in this study, precast concrete blocks developed for paving roadways capable of solar power generation were designed and constructed. For the evaluation of field applicability for 6 months, skid resistance and block settlement were measured. As a result of the experiment, it was found that skid resistance satisfies the standard of general roadway in Korea, but not the standard of highway. The skid resistance tended to decrease as time passed. In addition, the settlement of the block gradually increased slightly, but it is much smaller than the allowable settlement of the roadway. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a maintenance period and method based on the periodic measurement results in the future.

  • In order to perform photovoltaic (PV) operation and management (O&M) efficiently, individual PV module monitoring is becoming more important. In this research, we developed wireless IoT sensor which can monitor individual photovoltaic modules. This IoT sensor can detect the output voltage, current and module temperature of individual modules and provide monitored data by wireless communication. Measured voltage error was 1.23%, and it shows 16.6 dBM, 0.42sec and 7.1 mA for voltage, transmittance output, response time and mean power consumption, respectively. IoT sensors were demonstrated in the test field with real climate environment condition and each of 5 sensors showed precise results of voltage, current and temperature. Also, sensors were compared with commercial power-optimizers and showed result difference within 5%.

  • The economic feasibility of a photovoltaic (PV) system is greatly influenced by the initial investment cost for system installation. Also, electricity generation by PV system is highly important. The profits competitiveness of PV system will be maximized through intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M). Here, we developed a microconverter which can maximize electricity generation from PV modules by tracking the maximum power point of PV modules, and help efficient O&M. Also, the microconverter mitigates current mismatch caused by shading, hence maximize power generation. The microconverters were installed PV modules and demonstrated through the field tests. Power outputs such as voltage, string current were measured with variuos weather environments and partial shadings. We found that PV modules with the microconvertors shows 12.05% higher power generation compared to the reference PV modules.

  • This paper analyses the economics of 50kW PV system installed in Tibet and using domestic technology. We show that this system can be expanded to very large-scale photovoltaic power generation [VLS-PV] system successfully. Based on this result, we conduct the economic analysis of 100MW VLS-PV system designed assuming that it will be installed from 2008 to 2017 in Tibet. In this analysis, future price of PV module and system are estimated based on the methodology of experience curve. In 50kW PV system, the generation cost is calculated at 567.2 won/kWh and this is lower than the one of domestic PV system. In future 100MW VLS-PV system. the generation cost is calculated at 305.4 won/kWh by declining system price. If the lifetime and efficiency of the system goes up, due to future technological improvements, the generation cost can be lowered. Moreover, under the environmental and political effect, VLS-PV system can be as competitive as the conventional energy within 20 years.
