  • On this study, durability decreasing element caused by salt damage was analyzed elementally and studied with the data of the inside and outside in the country. The design strength and water-cement ratio according to diffusion coefficients of chloride were applied to Fick's diffusion equation. The required over depended on environmental conditions is estimated with endurance period, and the influences on cover according to the transformation of the each parameter were investigated. In consequence, if water-cement ratio decreases and design strength increases, it shows that slowing infiltration velocity of chloride ion can decrease required cover. Especially, it is more effective to use Portland blast-furnace slag cement into high strength concrete in the splash zone environmental conditions in blocking the diffusion of chloride ion. As the result, in the case of the offshore concrete structure needed high durability, it is needed to increase cover($3cm{\sim}8cm$) than minimum standard cover(8cm) according to environmental conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to find experimentally bond properties of deformed bars in high strength concwtc. Bond properties of deformed bars in high strength concrete are tested i n tensile stress state. Eighty beam-end specimens are used for this experiment. Concrete compressive strength is used as main experimental variable, in addition a few variables affecting bond properties are used : bond length, cover thickness and bar diameter. The principal results obtained from this study are as follows ; - Bond strength is not proportionate to bond length in high strength concrete. The rate of bond strength increase followed by bond length rapidly diminish according to concrete strength increase. The reason is analyzed in FEM analysis that bond stress is not uniformly distributed in high strength concrete and concentrate on loading area. - Bond strength is linearly proportionate to cover thickness without regard to concrete strength. Especially the rate of strength increase is gradually increased by concrete strength.

  • In 1980's, the concrete bridge decks were constructed with 4cm wearing surface layer instead of asphalt concrete overlays. After about 15 year service periods, deteriorations were appeared on the surfaces of highway bridge decks. Various field NDTs and lab tests were done to analysis the cause of the deterioration on the concrete deck surface. The main cause was the corrosion of rebars with thinner concrete top cover than the design value. The rebars with thinner concrete top cover was earlier corroded by penetrated chloride ions. If the appropriate top cover could be achieved, the bare concrete bridge decks can be used without earlier deteriorations.

  • In this study, hydraulic model tests were performed to investigate the stability of armor units at harbor side slope for rubble mound structures. The armor units on the rear slope were rocks. The Korean design standard for harbor and fishery port suggested the design figures that showed the ratio of the armor weight for each location of rubble mound structures and it could be known that the same weight ratio was needed to the sea side and rear side slope of rubble mound structures. The crest elements were commonly applied to the design process of rubble mound structures in Korea and the investigation of the effects of super structures would be needed. The damage rate (S =2) was applied and the stable wave height was measured for each test condition. The results were suggested as the armor weight ratio of the rear side slope(armor rock) to the sea side slope (tetrapod) in relation to the relative crest height.

  • Probing inside of concrete structures is one of the important steps in assessing condition of the structure. For the assessment, electromagnetic induction method and electromagnetic wave method are currently applied to the measurement of cover depth, and the detection of reinforcement embedded in concrete. To determine detection capability of locating reinforcement embedded in concrete, commercially available nondestructive testing (NDT) equipments have been tested. The equipments include electromagnetic wave system and electromagnetic induction system. In the tests, nine concrete specimens which have the dimensions of 1,000mm(length))${\times}$300mm(width) with thickness varying from 125mm to 150mm are used. The reinforcement are located at 45, 60, 100mm depth from the concrete surface. Horizontal reinforcement spacing has been set over 100mm. From the outcome, it is shown that error is increased as the diameter of reinforcement enlarge in case of using electromagnetic induction method. In case of using electromagnetic wave method, the detection of reinforcement embedded in deep is good in the view of reliability because of using the relative permittivity on the real cover depth.

  • This paper presents the tension stiffening behavior from experimental results of each 6 amorphous steel fibers and normal steel fibers reinforced direct tensile specimens with the main variables such as cover thickness to bar diameter ratio. A tension stiffening effect for steel fiber reinforced RC tension members improve on the increase in cover thickness, and also amorphous steel fiber is usually superior to normal steel fiber. The reinforcement of steel fibers controlled the splitting cracks and led to significant increase in the tension stiffening effect. In particular, if cover thickness is more than twice the bar diameter, the amorphous steel fiber reinforced specimen is controlled the splitting crack and increased the tension stiffening effect. And, the tension stiffening effect of amorphous steel fiber reinforced concrete tension members is different to current structural design code provision.

  • In this study, lap spliced ultra-high strength reinforced concrete beams were tested and the code criteria for calculating the lap splice length which was affected by the transverse reinforcement and concrete covering performance were reviewed. The main variables for test were set as fiber volume fraction and transverse reinforcing bar arrangement to improve the confining performance of the concrete cover. The change of the confining performance of concrete cover according to the increase in the fiber mixing amount at 1% and 2% volume ratio was examined, and D10 stirrups with a spacing of 100 mm were placed in the lap spliced region. As a result of the test, the specimens confined by the stirrups showed a sudden drop of load bearing capacity with horizontal cracking at the position of tensile longitudinal reinforcement. However, horizontal cracks were not appeared at the location of longitudinal reinforcement for the specimens with steel fiber. And these specimens showed gradual decrease of load bearing capacity after experiencing peak load. In particular, it was found that the strain at the position of the tensile longitudinal reinforcements of the specimens to which the mixing ratio of 2% was applied exceeds the yield strain. As a result of measuring the strain on the concrete surface, it was found that the fiber was more effective in preventing damage to the concrete surface than the stirrups for short lap spliced region.

  • Two-dimensional hydraulic model experiments on rubble mound structure armoring with the tetrapods and the superstructure were conducted to investigate wave transmission characteristics under irregular wave conditions. The previous studies about the wave transmission coefficients dealt with the low crested structures, therefore the rock was the main armor units and the superstructure was not constructed. In this study, the new empirical design formula for the wave transmission coefficient about rubble mound structure with the tetrapods and the superstructure was suggested and the effects of wave steepness and the row of the tetrapods in front of the superstructure could be considered.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mechanical performance and fire resistance of wet-mixed high strength sprayed polymer-modified mortar in order to protect tunnel lining system which are in the event of fire disaster. Since the current commercial fire-resistant materials reproduce the low strength issue of mortar, this study aims to provide an enhanced fire-resistant mortar with a proper strength. Normally, a large temperature gradient phenomenon arise in the vicinity of free surfaces which are fully exposed in the event of persistent flame. Thereby, the determination of optimal cover depth of wet-mixed high strength sprayed polymer-mortar(WHSPM) is important for fire-resistance of tunnel lining system. With comparison of current commercial fire-resistance materials and WHSPM, the experimental result of WHSPM shows the better fire-resistant performance than the others. In addition, the cover limitation should be controlled by minimum 4cm depth in order to avoid fire-induced damage.
