  • The purpose of this study, looking to which the recycled fine aggregates from waste concrete have a lot of problems as a material for structure purpose, is applying the recycled fine aggregate to Self-Compacting Concrete(In the reminder of this paper, it often referred to as SCC) by using the characteristic which the powder containing the recycled fine aggregates can increase strength and liquidity. In this study, that is, the recycled fine aggregate powder is appropriate for developing high strength(over 40 MPa) and liquidity(JSCE 2 grade), the characteristic of the SCC and it was increased the ratio of mixing the recycled fine aggregates emerging from waste concrete and the normal fine aggregates by 25%, making differential in total 5 levels and applied to SCC. After all, this study was reviewed the physical properties of the fresh concrete, analyzed the mechanical properties and durability of the hardening concrete and tried to ensure the possibility of utilizing the recycled fine aggregates as a material for SCC. As a result, this study reached a conclusion that among the 5-level replacement ratios of the physical, mechanical analysis and the durability characteristics, the normal fine aggregates could be applied up to a replacement ratio of 50% more than the recycled fine aggregates and resulted in a deterioration in performance the replacement ratio larger than 50%. It is judged that the applicability of the real structures should be followed up in order to check the possibility of applying the recycled fine aggregates to real life.

  • In this study, recently it is urgently required that demolition waste concrete has to be recycled on the construction because urban development is accelerated and redevelopment project is rapidly expanded, production quantity of construction and demolition waste concrete is being increased. As a results of drying shrinkage test under restrained and unrestrained condition, although workability and mechanical properites of concrete using HQRS were similar to that of concrete using natural sand, there were a great difference in deformation characteristic of dry shrinkage according to replacement ratio of HQRS. And, it makes sure that use of HQRS instead of partial nature sand was effective because drying shrinkage of concrete using 30 volume percentage of HQRS was smaller than that using only natural sand. Therefore, it is the objective of this study to provide the fundamental data about the re-application as an analysis of the drying shrinkage characteristics of concrete using HQRS and it is able to creta a high value-added by using HQRS.

  • Along with the increased social infrastructures and reconstruction, the demand for aggregate, which is used in concrete, has rapidly increased. However, there are problems due to the exhaustion of natural aggregate resources, and strict restrictions. In this study, the possibility of using rapid chilled steel slag as a substitutive material of fine aggregate is determined from the property test and mechanical test for the concrete that is made with rapid chilled steel slag, which highly decreases the free CaO, the main problem of the steel slag.

  • In this study, in order to evaluate the characteristics of mortar and concrete using wood chip cogeneration plant flooring as fine aggregate, mortar characteristics according to wood chip aggregate replacement rate and water-cement ratio as a substitute for crushed sand, and concrete characteristics according to wood chip aggregate replacement rate were compared and evaluated. The cement mortar flow according to the wood chip aggregate replacement rate showed a tendency to increase as the wood chip aggregate replacement rate increased, and the compressive strength and flexural strength increased as the wood chip aggregate replacement rate increased. The slump and air content of concrete increased as the aggregate replacement rate increased, and the compressive strength and tensile splitting strength of concrete tended to increase as the wood chip aggregate replacement rate increased. Accordingly, the possibility of using the flooring by the cogeneration plant as a fine aggregate for concrete was confirmed.

  • Plastic wastes generated from household waste are separated by mixed discharge with foreign substances, and recycling is relatively low. In this study, the effect of the ratio and content of mixed plastic waste coarse aggregate(MPWCA)s and mixed plastic waste fine aggregate(MPWFA)s filled with blast furnace slag fine powder on the slump and compressive strength of concrete was evaluated experimentally. The MPWCAs were found to have a similar fineness modulus, but have a single particle size distribution with a smaller particle size compared to coarse aggregates. However, the MPWFAs were found to have a single particle size distribution with a larger fineness modulus and particle size compared to fine aggregates. Meanwhile, the effect of improving the density and filling pores by the blast furnace slag fine power was found to be greater in the MPWFA compared to the MPWCA. As the amount of the mixed plastic waste aggregate(MPWA)s increased, the slump and compressive strength of concrete decreased. In particular, the lower the slump and compressive strength of concrete was found to decrease the greater the amount of MPWFA than MPWCA when the amount of MPWA was the same. This is because of the entrapped air and voids formed under the angular- and ROD-shaped aggregates among the MPWFAs. On the other hand, the addition of the admixture and the increase in the unit amount of cement were found to be effective in improving the compressive strength of the concrete with MPWAs.

  • Though the wet bottom ash has been used as a type of lightweight aggregate, dry bottom ash, new type bottom ash from coal combustion power plant, has scarcely researched. It is excellent lightweight aggregate in the view point of construction material. This study is performed to check the applicability of dry bottom ash as a fine aggregate in lightweight aggregate concrete, by analyzing various properties of fresh and hardened concrete. We get results that the slump of concrete is within the target range at less than 75% replacement rate of dry bottom ash, the air content is not affected by the replacement rate of dry bottom ash, the bleeding capacity is less than $0.025cm^3/cm^2$ at 75% under of the replacement rate of dry bottom ash, and the compressive strength of concrete show 90% or more comparing the base mix while initial strength development is a little low. Oven dry unit weight of concrete is reduced by 8.9% when replaced 100% dry bottom ash, and dry shrinkage tends to decrease depending on increase of replacement rate of dry bottom ash. Modulus of elasticity of concrete shows no decease at 50% over of the replacement rate of dry bottom ash, while modulus of elasticity of concrete decreases when the replacement rate increases further. The dry bottom ash, when used as a fine aggregate in lightweight concrete, can be used effectively without any deterioration in quality.

  • This study is analysis of the utilization as a concrete fine aggregate on CGS, a by-product of Integrated coal gasification combined cycle(IGCC). That is, in KS F 2527 "Concrete aggregate," properties of 1~12times to CGS were evaluated, focusing on quality items corresponding to natural aggregate sand(NS) and melted slag aggregate sand(MS). As a result, the distribution of grain shape, safety and expansion were all satisfied with KS standards by physical properties, but the quality was unstable at 7~12times of water absorption ratio and absolute dry density. The particle size distribution was unstable due to asymmetry distribution of coarse particles, and particles were too thick for 7~12times. The passing ratio of 0.08mm sieve was also out of the KS standard at part factor of 7~12times, but chloride content, clay contents, coal and lignite were all satisfactory. Meanwhile, chemical composition was satisfactory except for $SO_3$ in 1~6times, and content and amount of harmful substances were all within the specified value except for F in 7~12times. As a result of SEM analysis, the surface quality and porosity were 7~12times more than 1~6times, and it was the quality was degraded. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the quality deviation by using separate measures in order to utilize it as concrete aggregate in the future, and if it is premixed with fine quality aggregate, it will contribute positively to solve aggregate supply shortage and utilize circulation resources.

  • Recently, more focus is shift to imbalances in aggregate market supply and demand and an exhaustion of natural resources. In this situation, Electric arc furnace oxidizing slag (EAF slag) has high application possibility as aggregate for concrete due to similar property with general aggregate. However, it is inherent the problem which causes pop-out by free-CaO contained in slag In this study, we've got the plan to assure the chemical stability of EAF slag, and then experimentally tested the mechanical performance and durability for the fine aggregate used EAF slag. On this test result, we suggest the application plan. At the result of this study, it shows that EAF slag would reduce the surface defect such as pop-out due to natural aging for the fixed hour and adjustment the grain size of EAF slag. And mechanical performance and durability according to the replacement rate of concrete service, were revealed more than equal or equal compare to general aggregate. Hereafter, quality control must precede not to impede the beauty of concrete surface as assure the safety for aging and processing. And, to establish the environmental resource recycling system for by-products of steel, it should be made development of various application and guideline of quality control for the EAF slag aggregate. Moreover, it must be constantly studied all kind of engineering performance and durability for related to this study.
