  • In this study, it was witnessed that a variety of tests are implemented in a type of convergence of multimedia such as photos, sounds, and videos as well as letters and drawings, components of existing traditional comics as comics are digitalized and are converted to various devices. Therefore, we studied the concept of multimedia comics as a basis of this study by judging that new barometer to comics lies in convergence with such multimedia. After recognizing components of multimedia comics which are currently emerging, we categorized them into three types depending on how to use these elements. First, convergence type webtoon has a very similar format with existing vertical scrolling webtoon and has characteristics that background & effects sounds are added to emphasize the features of webtoon, or photos or videos are inserted in part, and there is no function to control these elements; Second, motion comic, a medium format between comic and animation has a characteristic that sound, video, paging are auto-played like watching animation but it keeps the format of comics within one frame; Third, interactive comic has a characteristic that effects sound, motion, and story are made by active participation of viewers. As a result of analyzing comics which having above multimedia characteristics, its implications are as followings: First, multimedia elements should be used depending on genre, age, and media; Second, high level of control technology considering the features of comic-viewers is needed. In other words, in continuously evolving media environments, comic contents being proper to targets and use purposes of viewers should be developed. For this, multimedia elements of comics should be used in order that comic-viewers can have active & interactive communication with contents.

  • The development of the Internet in the 21st century had made a variety of cross-cultural environment so that animations also have evolved with new features to Web-Animation. In Korea, the web-based flash animation leap forward to the animation Utopia in the early 2000's, but did not last long. The web-based animations should attract audience's attention not only with it's minimum streaming capacity but also with showing it's best qualities as well, Therefore, the stimulating narrative strategies were mandatories for web-animation in 2000's. The absence of in-depth research on media, poor revenue structure, and the emergence of mobile games and e-learning industries made the web-animation become just a one-time/one-consumable content. There were no subsequent generation of korean web-animation ever since. In this study, I want to introduce and analyze the american web animation series, (2005) as a new type of web-animation in current digital culture, In particular, I want to discuss how this web animation appeal to the audience with its narrative strategies through using some aspect of the internet culture which's differentiated from traditional media based cultures. This research could suggest diverse narrative strategies for the future web-animation with new vision. Moreover, This also allows to look at latest web-animation trends and its new experiments.

The work let the audiences highly evoke interest and curiosity through offering magnificent sceneries, weird and funny creatures and stimulating imagination, before having no idea about the work producted by Miyajaki Hayao, one of the greatest directors. Well-concentrated his works seem to be easy to understand but have a variety of meanings in very different ways. Expending the range of analysis of his works, for example, from its technical to cultural and philosophical etc. has an enormous amount of value of diversity such as a ray of light passing through a prism. For this reason, has been studied in many different views. This paper will analyse this animation in respect of ideas of eastern as well as western to show differences from former papers. The ideas of eastern and western seem to be not in a line, but this study will suggest that the two different ideas are not different, actually. Through plural analysis of , ask questions about what life is and what the direction is.

  • Contrary to the fact that the old films contain artistic and include contemporary literature, religion, and philosophy, latest films are produced with focusing on external interesting composition and sensational scene. A good movie emotionally express the directors' topic message exuding from an interesting story, and empathize with the social agenda which shows a sharp look of the directors' on contemporary social aspect. In the movies of the Coen brothers, it seems like an entertainment movie as typical black comedy genre through irony and happening, but in fact, it inserts a lot of social problems in the film to show that they cynically express their social agenda from a contemplative view. In their movie "The Big Lebowski (1998)", it seems like they are creating comical content through the main characters' unaffected attitude. However, it is director's excellent director of the sub-text that expresses American social issues such as Vietnam war, post-modernism and an obscurantist policy and au fond the comedy about the historical facts of mass production of social maladjustment into black comedy. We expect to contribute to make a step forward in the Korea film industry by analyzing such movies that has the cultural power of influence.

  • This study aims to understand the using characteristics of TV animation and web-based animation of children and investigate the effects of change in viewing process on the purchase of character goods. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted for parents who have children as animation viewers. The results show that there was no difference by age or gender in using both TV and web animation. When parents get animation information on TV, they had their children watch animation through the same TV channel, but the web has no significant relationship between information acquisition path and main service they use. In addition, it is found that parent' perception of TV animation superiority is influenced by respondents' income and children's watching time of animation has no effect on it. Finally, monthly income of households, payment amount of web animation, watching time of TV animation, and perception of quality of TV animation have a significant effect on parents' active purchase of character goods. On the other hand, the purchase intention of the recommended goods is influenced by children's age, the parent's perception about the web animation quality, and the payments of the web animation.

  • Cartoons and Animation are convergent arts created with a composite application of language arts described in the form of literary texts and sounds, plastic arts visualized in the form of artistic paintings, and film arts produced in the form of moving pictures. An academic university major in cartoons and animation studies established in late 20th century however, did not satisfactorily meet the needs in academic research and development and the free expression of artistic creation was limited. In order to systematize the major in cartoons and animation studies, an convergent approach to establish and clarify following are in demand : the terms and definitions, the historical developments, the research areas and methods, the major education and related jobs and start-ups. Above all, cartoons and animation are inseparably related to each other that even if one uses the term separately and independently, the meaning may not be complete. Second, the Research Areas of Animatoon reviewed the theories, genres, artworks, and artists and the Research Methods of Animatoon presented the curriculum that integrated the courses in humanities, science technologies, culture and arts, and etc. Third, the Major Education considered Animatoon education in children, young adults, students of the major and the Related Jobs and Start-Ups explored various jobs relating to personal creation of artwork and collective production of business-oriented artwork. In the Conclusion, the current challenges of Animatoon considered personalization of the artists, specialization of the contents, diversification of the types, and liberalization of the art creation. And the direction of improvement advocated Animatoon to be an academic field of study, to be an art, to be a culture, and to be an industry. The importance of cartoons and animation along with videos and games rose in the 21st century.
