Gas chromatographic profiles of rose essential oils: a round-robin test on oil of rose, Chinese Kushui type (Rosa sertata × Rosa rugosa) (장미 정유의 기체 크로마토그래피 분석표: 중국산 쿠스이형 장미유에 대한 재현정밀도 시험)

  • Analysis of the aroma constituents present in the rose essential oil of Chinese Kushui type (Rosa sertata ${\times}$ Rosa rugosa) by GC-FID and GC-MS was performed independently as an expert for the inter-laboratory round-robin test to verify reproducibility according to the decision of the preliminary meeting of ISO/TC-54 (Shanghai, Sep. 14-15, 2010). Total 179 peaks (using SPB-1 apolar column), 165 peaks (using DB-624 intermediate polar column), and 162 peaks (using Supelcowax-10 polar column) were separated by GC-FID, respectively. Major constituents (over 5%) by GC-FID were ${\beta}$-citronellol (41.6~46.7%), geraniol (9.7~11.0%), and nerol (3.4~4.5%). ${\beta}$-Citronellol peak was overlapped with nerol peak on SPB-1 and DB-624 columns, whereas the two peaks were separated each other on Supelcowax-10 column. Our results were generally consistent with Chinese data (ISO/DIS 25175); however, a peak of phenethyl alcohol separated by using PEG (Supelco wax) column was found at the quite different retention time. Comparative analysis was conducted using Bulgarian rose (Rosa damascena Miller) oil and perfume. Bulgarian rose oil showed rich amounts of characteristic aroma constituents than the essential oil of Chinese Kushui type.

Prediction of Retention Indices of Various Compounds in Gas-Liquid Chromatography (기체-액체 크로마토그래피에서 화합물의 머무름 지표의 예측에 관한 연구)

  • The retention indices of branched-chain alkane, benzene ring, alcohol, amine, ketone, aldehyde and cyclic compounds were measured at 150, 180 and $210^{\circ}C$ on OV-1701 and OV-1 capillary columns. The group retention factors (GRF) of the substituents and the st` ructure retention factors (SRF) of the molecular structure change are derived from the retention indices of reference compounds and series of homologues. The $GRF_f$ equation of `f'th substituent is $GRF_f\;=\;I_{obs}-(100Z + \sum\limits_{i{\neq}f}GRF_i$ + {\sum}$SRF_i$)and the SRFf equation of `f'th molecular structure group is $SRF_f\;=\;I_{obs}-(100Z + {\sum}GRFi + \sum\limits_{i{\neq}f}SRF_i$). The predicted retention indices for those compound were in agreement, within the error of $\pm2$ and $\pm3%$, with the observed values that were obtained using the OV-1701 and OV-1 capillary column, respectively. The $\Delta$ xi of the substituents and $\Delta$ yi of the molecular structure change according to temperature change are derived from the $\Delta'/^{\circ}C$ of reference compounds and series of homologues. The $\Delta$ xi equation of the `f'th substituent is ${\Delta}x_f = {$\Delta}'/^{\circ}C+ \sum\limits_{i{\neq}f}\Delta$ xi + {\sum}{\Delta}yi\;and\;{\Delta}yi$ equation of the `f'th molecular structure group is ${\Delta}y_f$ = {\Delta}'/^{\circ}C+{\sum}{\Delta}xi +\sum\limits_{i{\neq}f}{\Delta}yi$. The predicted $\Delta'/^{\circ}C$ for these compounds were in agreement, within the error of ${\pm}18%$ and 17%, with the observed values that were obtained using the OV-1701 and OV-1 capillary column, respectively.

Study on the Effect of the Lift Column Layout Design on Structural Strength of the Passenger Boarding Bridge (리프트 컬럼 배치설계가 탑승교 구조 강성에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구)

  • The passenger boarding bridge which provides a safe and comfort passenger pathway between an airplane and airport terminal gate is one of the apron equipment. This study investigates the effect of the lift column layout design on structural strength of the passenger boarding bridge by using finite element method, comparing deflection and stress. The overlapped zone of the tunnel frame A and B occurred at the maximum stress. The results of this research show that the lift column layout design is closely the value of the maximum stress.

A Study on the Separation and Determination of Organochlorine Pesticides by Capillary Column Gas-liquid Chromatography (모세관 컬럼 기체크로마토그래피에 의한 유기염소제 농약의 분리 정량에 관한 연구)

  • The separation of 19 organochlorine pesticides was studied by capillary column gas chromatography. The applicability of this method to the fresh rice was investigated. Comparison of the resolution of pesticides by OV-17 and SE-30 capillary columns revealed that OV-17 column (25m ${\times}$ 0.20mm, 0.27${\mu}$m thickness) showed better resolution. The relative standard deviations (RSD) for their retention times and peak areas obtained by splitless injection mode were within 0.16% and 8.2%, respectively. The recoveries of pesticides spiked in fresh rice were mostly over 85% and their RSDS did not exceed 11.4%.

질산화 토양컬럼에서 NH4-N 농도의 영향

  • 실험실 규모의 토양컬럼을 사용하여 고농도의 암모니아성 질소의 질산화 영향을 실험한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1) 유입수 NH$_{4}$-N의 농도 50 mg/L와 100 mg/L인 경 우 HRT 48시간에서도 NH$_{4}$-N가 99%정도 제거되었으며 유출수 평균 NO$_{3}$-N의 농도는 각각 46.3 mg/L와 98.3 mgh로 유입수 NH$_{4}$-N는 대부분 NO$_{3}$-N로 전환되었다. 2) 유입수 NH$_{4}$-N의 농도 200 mg/L인 경우 HRT 48시간에서 NH$_{4}$-N의 평균제거율이74.8%에 머물렀으나 토양컬럼 내부에 폭기장치를 설치한 결과 NH$_{4}$-N의 평균제거율은 94.7%로 개선되는 효과를 나타냈으며, 유입수 NH$_{4}$-N의 농도 400 mg/L인 경우에는 HRT 72시 간에서도 질산화가 불안정하였으나 마찬가지로 강제 폭기를 실시 한 결과 질산화가 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 4) 실험종료 후 토양컬럼 내부의 암모니아 및 아질산 산화세균을 조사한 결과 각각 1.4${\times}$10$^{5}$과 2.3${\times}$ 10$^{6}$ MPN/g${\cdot}$soil까지 증가하였다.

A Rapid Method of Ginsenoside Analysis in HPLC by Pretreatment through the reverse-phase minicolumn (역상소형컬럼 전처리를 이용한 Ginsenoside의 신속정량법)

  • The solvent separation step in the conventional method for quantitative analysis of ginsenosides was substituted by purification through a small reverse-phase $C_18$-column resulting in the decrease of analysis time by one fourth. New method showed high recovery of total ginsenosides but low recovery in protopanaxatriol-ginsenosides. Sugars did not affect the recovery by the amount in usual root sample. Coefficient of variation in recovery of ginsenosides was lower in the rapid minicolumn method. Optimum load of ginsenosides to minicolumn was 10 to 15 mg. The rapid minicolumn method showed highly significant correlation with the solvent separation method for dried root and red ginseng. For the rapid minicolumn method a small acryl device was used for the simultaneous extraction of 8 samples. This method appeared to be beneficial in cost and for the health of analyst.

HPLC Study for Egg White Analysis (달걀 단백질 분석을 위한 HPLC 연구)

  • Since egg white contains various protein, it is important to research the protein distribution of egg white. Specially, lysozyme and ovalbumin important proteins, are used in medicine and food industry. Reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography has been used for separation of egg white, and column of RP-HPLC is available in variety. We have used C4, C8 and C18 columns to obtain chromatograms by varying carbon chain length of stationary phase. Long carbon chain length of stationary phase has good separation of egg white. Also, we have changed the composition of mobile phase (acetonitrile, water, and trifluoroacetic acid) to find optimum chromatograms. Acetonitrile and water composition of 50 : 50 show many peaks from egg white. Isocartic and gradient elution in RP-HPLC were used to compare the chromatography of egg white.

  • There exists a limit in efficient processing of mixed workloads that database markets requires in recent years since existing database systems utilize a static page storage model. In this paper we propose a dynamic page storage model that can reflect the characteristics of mixed workloads. We also describe how to extract optimized column groups from given mixed workloads and how to construct pages dynamically. Finally, we show in our experiments that the proposed model is more efficient than the existing model in processing given mixed workloads.

  • A new sampling and size exclusion chromatography (SEC) method for the analysis of underivatized cellulose are established. In this method, cellulose materials are first dissolved in N-methylmorpholine N-oxide (NMMO) and diluted by adding dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to make the sample solutions of about 0.1% in 50/50 NMMO/DMSO (w/w). Sample solutions are analyzed using a glucose-treated divinylbenzene (DVB) SEC column and DMSO containing 0.05M LiBr and 2.5 blank as the eluant. The flow rate was constant at 1 mL/min and the whole SEC system including the column was heated at $80^{\circ}C$ to reduce the viscosity of DMSO. Addition of 0.05 M LiBr eliminated SEC baseline drifting, and addition of 2.5 blank seems to reduce the interaction between the sample and the column packing. SEC molecular weights were determined using a calibration curve constructed from a series of narrow pullulan standards, and they were used to measure the degree of degradation during two different pulp-to-sponge processings.

Study of improving precision and accuracy by using an internal standard in post column isotope dilution method for HPLC-ICP/MS (후 컬럼 동위원소 희석법을 적용한 HPLC-ICP/MS에서의 정량분석에서 내부 표준물을 이용한 정확도와 정밀도의 개선연구)

  • An internal standard was used in PCID (post column isotope dilution) to improve the accuracy and precision in quantification of various chemical species. The error occurring in the column was the largest in HPLC-ICP/MS (high performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry) when PCID and other traditional quantification methods were compared with each other. Internal standard was effective in correcting the loss of sample in the column to improve accuracy and precision. When applied to SeMet, using MeSecys or $Se^{4+}$ as an internal standard, relative errors were reduced from 31% and 13% to less than 1%, while standard deviations were reduced from 5.1% and 6.9% to 1.5% and 0.2%, respectively. Positive aspects of using an internal standard in PCID were compared with other quantitative techniques and discussed in detail.
