Object VR-based 2.5D Virtual Textile Wearing System : Viewpoint Vector Estimation and Textile Texture Mapping (오브젝트 VR 기반 2.5D 가상 직물 착의 시스템 : 시점 벡터 추정 및 직물 텍스쳐 매핑)

  • This paper is related to a new technology allowing a user to have a 360 degree viewpoint of the virtual wearing object, and to an object VR(Virtual Reality)-based 2D virtual textile wearing system using viewpoint vector estimation and textile texture mapping. The proposed system is characterized as capable of virtually wearing a new textile pattern selected by the user to the clothing shape section segmented from multiview 2D images of clothes model for object VR, and three-dimensionally viewing its virtual wearing appearance at a 360 degree viewpoint of the object. Regardless of color or intensity of model clothes, the proposed system is possible to virtually change the textile pattern with holding the illumination and shading properties of the selected clothing shape section, and also to quickly and easily simulate, compare, and select multiple textile pattern combinations for individual styles or entire outfits. The proposed system can provide higher practicality and easy-to-use interface, as it makes real-time processing possible in various digital environment, and creates comparatively natural and realistic virtual wearing styles, and also makes semi -automatic processing possible to reduce the manual works to a minimum. According to the proposed system, it can motivate the creative activity of the designers with simulation results on the effect of textile pattern design on the appearance of clothes without manufacturing physical clothes and, as it can help the purchasers for decision-making with them, promote B2B or B2C e-commerce.

Face Detection Algorithm Using Color Distribution Matching (영상의 색상 분포 정합을 이용한 얼굴 검출 알고리즘)

  • Face detection algorithm of OpenCV recognizes the faces by Haar matching between input image and Haar features which are learned through a set of training images consisting of many front faces. Therefore the face detection method by Haar matching yields a high face detection rate for the front faces but not in the case of the pan and deformed faces. On the assumption that distributional characteristics of color histogram is similar even if deformed or side faces, a face detection method using the histogram pattern matching is proposed in this paper. In the case of the missed detection and false detection caused by Haar matching, the proposed face detection algorithm applies the histogram pattern matching with the correct detected face area of the previous frame so that the face region with the most similar histogram distribution is determined. The experiment for evaluating the face detection performance reveals that the face detection rate was enhanced about 8% than the conventional method.

Halftone Noise Removal in Scanned Images using HOG based Adaptive Smoothing Filter (HOG 기반의 적응적 평활화를 이용한 스캔된 영상의 하프톤 잡음 제거)

  • In this paper, a novel descreening method using HOG(histogram of gradient)-based adaptive smoothing filter is proposed. Conventional edge-oriented smoothing methods does not provide enough smoothing to the halftone image due to the edge-like characteristic of the halftone noise. Moreover, clustered-dot halftoning method, which is commonly used in printing tends to create Moire pattern because of the intereference in color channels. Therefore, the proposed method uses HOG to distinguish edges and the amount of smoothing to be performed on the halftone image is then calculated according to the magnitude of the HOG in the edge and edge normal orientation. The proposed method was tested on various scanned halftone materials, and the results show that it effectively removes halftone noises as well as Moire pattern while preserving image details.

Feature Extraction for Protein Pattern Using Fuzzy Integral (퍼지적분을 이용한 단백질패턴에 관한 특징추출)

  • In the protein macro array image, it is important to find out the feature of the each protein chip. A decision error by the personal sense of sight occurred from long time observation while making an experiment in many protein chip image. So the feature extraction is needed by a simulator. In the case of feature analysis for macro array scan image the efficiency is maximized. In the fluorescence scan image, the response for each cell have been depend on R, G, B distribution of color image. But it is difficult to be classified as one color feature in the case of mixed color image. In this paper, the response color of a protein chip is classified according to the fuzzy integral value with respect to fuzzy measure as the user desired color. The result of the experiment for the macro array fluorescence image with the Scan Array 5000 shows that the proposed method using the fuzzy integral is important fact to be make decision for the ambiguous color.

A Study on the Recognition of Car Plate using an Enhanced Fuzzy ART Algorithm (개선된 퍼지 ART 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식에 관한 연구)

  • The recognition of car plate was investigated by means of the enhanced fuzzy ART algorithm. The morphological information of horizontal and vertical edges was used to extract a plate area from a car image. In addition, the contour tracking algorithm by utilizing the SOFM was applied to extract the specific area which includes characters from an extracted plate area. The extracted characteristic area was recognized by using the enhanced fuzzy ART algorithm. In this study we propose the novel fuzzy ART algorithm different from the conventional fuzzy ART algorithm by the dynamical establishment of the vigilance threshold which shows a tolerance limit of unbalance between voluntary and saved patterns for clustering. The extraction rate obtained by using the morphological information of horizontal and vertical edges showed better results than that from the color information of RGB and HSI. Furthermore, the recognition rate of the enhanced fuzzy ART algorithm was improved much more than that of the conventional fuzzy ART and SOFM algorithms.

Face Detection Using Adaboost and Template Matching of Depth Map based Block Rank Patterns (Adaboost와 깊이 맵 기반의 블록 순위 패턴의 템플릿 매칭을 이용한 얼굴검출)

  • A face detection algorithms using two-dimensional (2-D) intensity or color images have been studied for decades. Recently, with the development of low-cost range sensor, three-dimensional (3-D) information (i.e., depth image that represents the distance between a camera and objects) can be easily used to reliably extract facial features. Most people have a similar pattern of 3-D facial structure. This paper proposes a face detection method using intensity and depth images. At first, adaboost algorithm using intensity image classifies face and nonface candidate regions. Each candidate region is divided into $5{\times}5$ blocks and depth values are averaged in each block. Then, $5{\times}5$ block rank pattern is constructed by sorting block averages of depth values. Finally, candidate regions are classified as face and nonface regions by matching the constructed depth map based block rank patterns and a template pattern that is generated from training data set. For template matching, the $5{\times}5$ template block rank pattern is prior constructed by averaging block ranks using training data set. The proposed algorithm is tested on real images obtained by Kinect range sensor. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm effectively eliminates most false positives with true positives well preserved.

Content based Video Segmentation Algorithm using Comparison of Pattern Similarity (장면의 유사도 패턴 비교를 이용한 내용기반 동영상 분할 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose the comparison method of pattern similarity for video segmentation algorithm. The shot boundary type is categorized as 2 types, abrupt change and gradual change. The representative examples of gradual change are dissolve, fade-in, fade-out or wipe transition. The proposed method consider the problem to detect shot boundary as 2-class problem. We concentrated if the shot boundary event happens or not. It is essential to define similarity between frames for shot boundary detection. We proposed 2 similarity measures, within similarity and between similarity. The within similarity is defined by feature comparison between frames belong to same shot. The between similarity is defined by feature comparison between frames belong to different scene. Finally we calculated the statistical patterns comparison between the within similarity and between similarity. Because this measure is robust to flash light or object movement, our proposed algorithm make contribution towards reducing false positive rate. We employed color histogram and mean of sub-block on frame image as frame feature. We performed the experimental evaluation with video dataset including set of TREC-2001 and TREC-2002. The proposed algorithm shows the performance, 91.84% recall and 86.43% precision in experimental circumstance.

A Study on Transformation of iOS GUI Design in the view of Affordance (iOS GUI 디자인의 변화에 대한 어포던스 관점의 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the transformation of affordance in iOS GUI design and the relationship of affordances. We figured out variety kinds of Affordance concepts and choosed six Affordances(Visceral, Behavioral, Reflective, Explicit, Metaphorical, Pattern Affordance) Based on the previous studies. The result of investigating the transformation of iOS GUI design which based on the viewpoint of these 6 Affordance we have chosen is as follows. Firstly, the Visceral Affordance of iOS GUI design has already sufficiently become to the Reflective Affordance. So we can ignore or ellipsis the Visceral Affordance and the addition of specific Explicit Affordance can be possible. Secondly, due to the use experience of iOS, Behavioral Affordance and Pattern Affordance have already become to a kind of Reflective Affordance. Through this evolution, new kind of Pattern Affordance is formed. At the mean time, it also applied the basic field of Metaphorical Affordance. Thirdly, investigating the Flat Design of iOS based on the viewpoint of Affordance, we have figured out that Visceral Affordance has been reduced. So that the constrains of visual performance has also been reduced. This is the reason that there are more space remained in screen layout design, the color has become more natural and more Explicit Affordance has been provided, ect. Futhermore, in this thesis we have also figured out that there are some interactions and relationships between each Affordance. With the development of iOS, some Affordances have transformed to other Affordances. With the accumulation of use experience, Visceral Affordance has transformed to Reflective Affordance based on the field of Metaphorical Affordance. With the disappearance or reduction of Visceral Affordance, iOS provide Explicit Affordance instead. As a result of this kind of process, a new Pattern Affordance has been formed.

A study on Emotional Fashion Design Using Light (빛을 활용한 감성 패션디자인 연구)

  • 현대 패션분야에서 디자이너들의 예술적 표현의 주제이자 매체로서 활용되고 있는 빛은 보다 감성지향적인 방향으로 발전되는 추세로서, 빛을 활용한 감성 패션디자인에 대한 표현 방법과 조형적 특성을 분석하는 것은 매우 의미있는 일이다. 패션디자인에서 빛을 표현하는 방법으로는 빛의 반사, 이미지 표현, 발광, 투사에 의해 독창적으로 응용되어져 표현되어 왔으며, 다양한 빛의 표현을 위해 재료의 물성을 조작함으로써 얻을 수 있는 빛의 유희, 명암이나 형태, 색채를 통한 빛의 재현, 발광물질이나 인공광에 의한 발광, 프로젝터를 통한 빛 이미지 등 다양한 표현방법이 활용되고 있었다. 빛이 활용된 감성 패션디자인의 조형적 특성으로는 상호작용성, 영상성, 투명성, 실험성으로 분류되었다. 상호작용성은 착용자의 행위에 의한 변형과 신체의 변화나 감정의 변화에 의한 불빛이나 영상 패턴이 바뀌는 등 형태나 컬러, 영상의 변형 등 착용자의 메시지 전달이나, 감정표현, 신체보호, 그리고 재미를 유발하는 효과를 자아내는 것으로 나타났다. 영상성은 디지털 이미지를 활용한 것과 내부 광원에 의한 발광성으로 분류되며, 드레스에 장착된 수많은 LED 에 의한 영상을 만들거나 이미지를 확대시키는 방법으로 표현된 영상성은 심미적인 효과가 우선시되었다. 투명성은 주로 비닐, 플라스틱, 기능적 소재 등 투명한 소재들을 이용하여 대부분 재료의 특성이 조형적 특성으로 분석되었고, 외부와의 개방성과 위장가능성의 효과를 준다거나, 투명한 재질에 이미지가 변화하는 이미지의 중첩성과 같은 효과를 나타내었다. 실험성은 새로운 실험적 도구로서의 패션을 표현하고자 할 때, '빛'을 매개체로 하여 관심을 유도하고 재미를 더해주며, 신비주의적 환상이나 호기심을 불러일으키는 효과를 나타내었다. 이처럼 빛을 활용한 패션디자인은 빛을 매개체로 하여 다양한 표현방법으로 활용이 가능하며 특유의 조형적 특성을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Color Uniformity Estimation of Printouts Using a Scanner and Average Brightness (스캐너와 평균 밝기를 이용한 프린터 출력물의 색 균일도 추정)

  • Among many factors for evaluating the performance of color printers, the color uniformity is an important factor during the stage of development and mass production. Currently the color uniformity is measured manually using densitometers and the data is analyzed by inspectors to evaluate the performance. In this paper a new method of estimating the color uniformity using scanners and average brightness is presented. The color uniformity of printouts is estimated by using the test pattern and commercially available scanner. It is shown from experiments that the estimated data are similar to the data measured by densitometers. Also, with the analysis of the color uniformity, the usefulness of the proposed approach is presented.
