Purpose: This study was conducted to survey knowledge, compliance, and quality of life of mothers who have children with atopic dermatitis, and to determine whether above mentioned factors influence each other. Methods: The participants in this study were 165 mothers of children with atopic dermatitis recruited from one out-patient clinic in a hospital in Seoul. The data were collected between March 8, and April 16, 2010 using a structured questionnaire. Results: The mean score for participants' knowledge was 4.17/5, for compliance, 4.27/5 and for quality of life, 3.42/5. Among the five domains of quality of life, emotional status had the lowest score (3.20/5). Knowledge was significantly correlated with compliance (r=.215, p<.005). However, quality of life was not correlated with knowledge (r=-.069) and compliance (r=-.077). Conclusion: Accurate knowledge affects compliance of mothers of children with atopic dermatitis. Therefore, to increase the level of compliance, it is necessary to enhance the knowledge of the mothers. Results also suggest that interventions are needed to improve poor quality of life, particularly the emotional condition of mothers of children with atopic dermatitis.
Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the mediating effect of resilience in the relationship between stress and therapeutic compliance in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Methods: The subject (N=145) was a systemic lupus erythematosus patient who visited the D Hospital in B city. Data collection was conducted from January 2016 to August 2016. Twenty-five resilience measurement tools, 20 stress measurement tools, 39 therapeutic compliance measurement tools used to measure resilience, stress and therapeutic compliance levels. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, 3-step regression analysis of Baron and Kenny, and Sobel test in SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: There was a significant negative correlation between stress and therapeutic compliance, a significant negative correlation between stress and resilience, and significant positive correlation between resilience and therapeutic compliance. Resilience showed a direct effect on therapeutic compliance through stress as a mediating variable. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop appropriate resilience enhancement program to improve therapeutic compliance with systemic lupus erythematosus.
Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the effect of providing information on anxiety, knowledge and compliance in permanent pacemaker patients. Method: A quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group and non-synchronized design was used. The subjects of this study were 50 patients who had received permanent pacemaker implantation at a university hospital in Seoul. They were divided into an experimental group of 22 patients who received education and a control group of 28 patients. The education was composed of group education(twice) and individualized reinforcement education(once) using an education booklet. Results: Anxiety decreased in the experimental group. Knowledge significantly increased in the experimental group compared to that in the control group. Compliance significantly increased in the experimental group. Conclusion: It can be concluded that providing information is effective for reducing anxiety, increasing knowledge and improving compliance of the permanent pacemaker patients.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the mediating effect of the resilience on the relationship between type D personality and compliance of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) patients. Methods: The subjects were 236 CAD patients who visited the cardiology outpatient clinics of D University Medical Center in B City in Korea. The type D personality, resilience, and compliance of subjects were measured using structured questionnaires from July to August, 2014. The mediating effect was analyzed by a multiple hierarchical regression. Results: The subjects with type D personality accounted for 30.9% of all study subjects. The resilience and compliance of type D subjects were significantly lower than those of non type D subjects. There was a significant correlation between resilience and compliance. The direct effect of type D personality on compliance was not significant (${\beta}=-.07$, p=.243), while the indirect effect of type D personality on compliance via resilience was significant (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001). Conclusion: On the basis of above results, it can be concluded that the resilience had completely mediating effect on the relation between type D personality and compliance of CAD patients. Further studies need to be done to develop the intervention enhancing resilience of CAD patients with Type D personality.
Purposes: The purpose of the study was to evaluate knowledge of hepatitis C and compliance with therapeutic guidelines and their correlation. Methods: Participants included a total of 197 subjects with chronic hepatitis C from 4 general hospitals. Subjects were asked 25 items of knowledge on hepatitis C and 17 items of compliance with therapeutic guidelines. The collected data was analyzed for frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. with the help of SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The subject's knowledge on chronic hepatitis C expressed as percentage was 67.1%. Compliance of the research participants gained $3.96({\pm}0.76)$ points in general on a 5-point scale. Learned compliance was higher when the patients were 45 years old and over. female and with spouse. There was a statistically significantly positive correlation between knowledge and compliances. Conclusions: Development of educational programs requires consideration of patient characteristics, particularly education on the male patients under 45 years of age.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin), WHR (Waist hip ratio), WTR (Waist thigh ratio) and compliance in elderly diabetes mellitus patients aged 65 years or over. Method: We conducted a survey and measured HbA1c, WHR, WTR in a total of 180 elderly patients with diabetes from 5 May 2014 to 30 May 2014. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient using the SPSS program. Results: There were no significant differences in diabetes-related characteristics for HbA1c, WHR and WTR. However, patients with a family history had low compliance scores (p=.004). Furthermore, patients who visited the hospital regularly had higher compliance scores than patients who visited hospital when they were sick (p<.001). Patients with diabetic complications had low treatment compliance scores (p=.001). In addition, WHR and WTR (r=0.47, p<.001). and WHR and compliance (r=0.15, p=.045) showed positive correlation. Conclusion: For elderly diabetes mellitus patients, diabetes-related characteristics and compliance were highly related, so it is necessary to improve compliance for managing diabetes mellitus.
This descriptive-correlational study was undertaken in order to examine if there were relationships between family support, compliance and life satisfaction in chronic arthritis patients. The sampling method was a non-probability, purposive sampling technique. The participants of this study were 92 volunteer adults. 1) who have been diagnosed as having chronic arthritis and 2) who were at the medical out patient clinic of one university hospital in Seoul between April 27th to May 12th 1987. The instruments used for this study were the Family Support Scale developed by Kang Hyun Sook, a Compilance Scale developed by the researcher and the Life-Satisfaction Index-Z developed by Wood et.al. Analysis of data was done using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of study were as follows; Hypothesis I; “The higher the family support, the higher the compliance” was accepted. (r=.2604, p<.01) Hypothesis II; “The higher the compliance, the higher the life satisfaction,” was rejected. (r=.1663, p>0.5) Hypothesis III; “The higher the family support, the higher the life satisfaction” was accepted. (r=.3914, p<.01) In addition, by using Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis it was determined that the main influencing factors on the life satisfaction were family support, the number of inflammatory joints, compliance and pain level. These 4 main variables made it possible to explain 30.8% of the variance in life satisfaction. In conclusion, this study revealed that family support is an important factor that can improve compliance and life satisfaction in chronic arthritis patients.
The purpose of this study is to examine to control of glucose level and the occurrence of chronic complications of diabetes by compliance groups with health care regimen The subjects were consisted of 300 out patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from beginning of March through the end of April in 2001, who visited at the endocrinology department at Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital of Catholic University in Seoul. The patient's compliance level with health care regimen was assessed at questionnaire. However, the blood glucose level and the occurrence of chronic complications of diabetes were assessed at medical record review. The data were analyzed by SAS program for chi square test and t-test. The results were as follows. 1. Significant differences were found among the factors such as duration of diabetes, the number of participation of diabetes educational program, job, smoking, self monitoring of blood glucose and the methods of diabetes therapy between high and low compliance groups. High compliance group patients had a diabetes longer than low compliance group patients. High compliance group patients more frequently attended the educational program and checked themselves monitoring blood glucose than low compliance group patients. Also, they did not work recently, smoked less and got more insulin injection therapy compared to low compliance group patients. 2. No significant differences were found among the result of fasting blood glucose. 2-hour postprandial blood glucose, and $HbA_{l}c}$ between high and low compliance groups. 3. The occurrence rate of macrovascular complications of chronic complications of diabetes were lower, however, the occurrence rate of microvascular complications were higher in high compliance group than in low compliance group with health care regimen.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine how well patients who had hip arthroplasty comply with medical regimens given to them after the operation. Method: The subjects of the study were patients who had arthroplasty at P Hospital between April 1, 2001 and August 30, 2002. 20 patients of the subjects experienced complications after the operation and the other 20 did not. Data from a survey using the qustionnaire were statistically analyzed in terms of real number, percentage point, mean and standard deviation by using $X^2$-test, t-test and ANOVA. Result: 1) the surveyed patients were significantly different in the compliance of medical regimen among them according to their education background as one of the subjects general characteristics. 2) It was found that the group of complication was higher in the compliance of medical regimen than that of non-complication. The two groups showed statistically significant difference with each other in the degree of compliance with therapeutic instructions than the experimental group in terms of the maintenance of abduction after the operation, training instructions on step-by-step basis, urination cotrol on bed, accurate use of crutch, compliance with medication, balance among medical treatment, training, leisure, rest and nutrition, instructions by physicians, nurses and physical therapists, use of low armchairs and toilet bowels and no bending of the body forward, and use of a non-operated leg in case of go upstairs or downstairs. Conclusion: It seems necessary to develop systematic and sessional education programs for improving the compliance of medical regimen, ultimately reducing complications following hip arthroplasty.
