A Theoretical Study on Storm and Flood Insurance in Korea (풍수해보험에 대한 이론적 분석)

  • The storm and flood insurance, which was introduced recently to substitute the disaster relief system to moderate government's financial burden and enhance people's effort to reduce damage, seems to suffer various problems. This paper conducts a theoretical analysis on various aspects of the storm and flood insurance to provide insight on those issues and draw policy implications. First, the coexistence of disaster relief with the storm and flood insurance is likely to harm the penetration of the storm and flood insurance. Second, the current premium system is likely to induce people to make less efforts to reduce damage due to moral hazard problem. Third, current support for damage-reducing efforts may not fulfill its purpose and hence should be scrutinized carefully.

A Study on Applying Shrinkage Method in Generalized Additive Model (일반화가법모형에서 축소방법의 적용연구)

  • Generalized additive model(GAM) is the statistical model that resolves most of the problems existing in the traditional linear regression model. However, overfitting phenomenon can be aroused without applying any method to reduce the number of independent variables. Therefore, variable selection methods in generalized additive model are needed. Recently, Lasso related methods are popular for variable selection in regression analysis. In this research, we consider Group Lasso and Elastic net models for variable selection in GAM and propose an algorithm for finding solutions. We compare the proposed methods via Monte Carlo simulation and applying auto insurance data in the fiscal year 2005. lt is shown that the proposed methods result in the better performance.

Shrink-Wrapped Boundary Face Algorithm for Surface Reconstruction from Unorganized 3D Points (비정렬 3차원 측정점으로부터의 표면 재구성을 위한 경계면 축소포장 알고리즘)

  • A new surface reconstruction scheme for approximating the surface from a set of unorganized 3D points is proposed. Our method, called shrink-wrapped boundary face (SWBF) algorithm, produces the final surface by iteratively shrinking the initial mesh generated from the definition of the boundary faces. Proposed method surmounts the genus-0 spherical topology restriction of previous shrink-wrapping based mesh generation technique, and can be applicable to any kind of surface topology. Furthermore, SWBF is much faster than the previous one since it requires only local nearest-point-search in the shrinking process. According to experiments, it is proved to be very robust and efficient for mesh generation from unorganized points cloud.

  • This paper describes the structural analysis results of KARI General Small-scaled Rotor Test System (GSRTS) operated in KARI to verify operational safety. This GSRTS was developed to conduct a froude and mach small-scaled rotor test. This analysis was performed to investigate the structural Factor of Safety for the various small-scale rotor system like articulated or hingeless rotor and to check the operational capability using given operational design load. Specially, drive system has several bearings, mechanical gears, shaft, etc. and these parts must be required to achieve an operational safety. The calculation was done by using geometric data and material properties by analytical method. This rotor test system should be operated within these calculated Factor of Safety. Furthermore, the operational limitation should be defined as applied to small-scale rotor system of KUH in future.

  • Target signal feature parameters are very important to classify target by active sonar. Two highly correlated broad band pulses separated by time T have a time separation pitch(TSP) of 1/T Hz which is equal to the trough-to-trough or peak-to-peak spacing of its spectrum. In this study, TSP informations which represent feature of each target signal were effectively extracted by the FFT. The extracted TSP feature parameters were also applied to the pattern recognition algorithm to classify target and to analyze their properties.

  • This paper presents a scheduling approach for synthesizing pipelined datapaths under resource constraints. Our approach builds up a schedule based on gradual mobility reduction in contrast to other algorithms of previous researches, where an operation being scheduled is selected by using a priority function. The proposed method consists of a scheduling algorithm and a decision algorithm for detecting any violation against resource constraints. Our approach evaluates whether or not a scheduling solution can exist in case an operation temporarily is assigned to the earliest or latest control step among the assignable steps for the operation. If a solution cannot be found, it is impossible to assign the operation to that step due to a violation against resource constraints, and so we can eliminate that control step. This process is iterated until a reduction of mobility for all operations can not be obtained. Experiments on benchmarks show that this approach gains a considerable improvement over those by previous approaches.

제한조건식을 갖는 연립 4수 경계치 문제의 유한요소내해석

  • 유한요소법은 경계치(boundary value)문제에 대한 근사해를 구하는 한 방법으로 공학문제 해결의 강력한 도구로서 그 적용분야가 확장되고 있으며, 아울러 유한요소법 자체의 제한점을 축소시 키기 위한 연구가 응용수학자나 공학자에 의해 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 글에서는 일반적인 유한요소법의 개념을 자연스럽게 확장시켜 공학문제에서 자주 취급되는 제한조건식을 포함한 미분방정식의 처리와 연립미분방정식 및 4계 경계치 문제에 적용시키는 방법을 구체적으로 소 개하고자 한다. 이러한 문제는 최근 에너지 확보와 관련하여 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있는 해 저송유관 설계 및 부설, 시추선 상승관(riser)의 응력해석, 해저광물채집(ocean mining)등의 해 양공학분야에서 크게 대두되고 있다. 해저송유관의 수학적 모델을 통하여 제약조건식을 갖는 연립 4계 경계치 문제를 소개하고 유한요소법의 적용을 설명하고자 한다.

A Deflationary Understanding of Radical Interpretation (원초적 해석의 축소주의적 이해)

  • Michael Williams, in his paper, rejects the wide-accepted view that Donald Davidson's radical interpretation is a truth conditional account of meaning, and suggests a claim that robust truth in fact does not play any role in Davidson's interpretation and thus interpretation can be in accord with the deflationary theory of truth. In this paper, I will first research the right understanding on the explanatory relations in radical interpretation between truth and meaning, and on that ground, will evaluate the adequacy of Williams' suggestion. My diagnosis is that the acceptability of Williams' idea depends on how we regard the several factors which are crucial for interpretation. Especially I will argue that whether truth condition is regarded as deflationary or inflationary makes difference to the way of understanding radical interpretation, hence the room for taking radical interpretation as deflationary can be in two different ways. Furthermore I will show the same argument can be applied to Williams' another claim that Paul Horwich's use theory of meaning is similar to Davidson's account.
