  • Scratch is Educational Programming Language, and it has been widely used in Elementary school SW Education. Many studies show that Scratch education is helpful for students' computational thinking and problem solving. However, the lower grade students use scratch less than the higher grade students, and the higher grade students have difficulty in understanding basic programming principles such as sequence, repetition, and condition. Therefore, in this study, we developed Scratch electronic blocks and programming education curriculum. We had classes for 2nd grade and 6th grade students, and it was confirmed that the score of 2nd grade students' interest about programming increased from 3.28 to 3.58 and 6th grade students' interest increased from 3.41 to 4.09. As a result of the programming basic principles understanding assessment, 84% of the 2nd grade students solved more than 7 of the 9 questions and 62% of the 6th grade students solved more than 7 of the 9 questions.

  • This research was about analyzing students' major error types in the field of elementary 1st grade mathematics numbers and operations, and formulating and applying effective teaching methods to find out their effects. Among the errors the students were making, it was found that in the field of numbers there was more than 50% chance of making calculation mistakes in 50 rounds of rational counting. Also, in the field of operations, it was discovered that most of students' mistakes had to do with subtraction. The results from the classification of the 4 types of error showed that most errors were made from having inaccurate concept of knowledge and definition. Thus, it can be concluded that when elementary 1st grade teachers teach students mathematics, it is most important that they put best effort into firmly establishing the students fundamental concept, definition, facts, and functions. For that matter, students were interviewed one by one, and by implementing learning method using some concrete materials as tools, students were able to fix their own errors. More importantly, students were able to gain interest and become more willing to participate by joining in this program, which led to more effective guidance.

  • This study designed and developed a model of ill-structured problem solving and ill-structured problems for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. In addition, two sets of ill-structured problems has been explored to 23 4th graders, 33 5th graders, and 23 6th graders in elementary schools in order to investigate their problem solving, creative personality, and mathematical reasoning. The model of ill-structured problem solving was suggested ABCDE (Analyze-Browse-Create-DecisionMaking-Evaluate) model and analyzed participants' problem solving procedure. As results, participants showed improvement between pretest and posttest in problem solving and the high graders showed the greater creative personality.

  • Time is important in children's lives since their preschool years. However, previous studies indicate that many children struggle with the acquisition of time concepts. Also teachers do not know how to help them. This study aims to investigate elementary school students' understanding about time and induce its educational implications. To do this, about 130 children from first to fifth grades were tested for their ability to recognize(read and record) the analogue and digital times and to solve elapsed-time problems. The results showed that even first graders were able to read and record the minute times on digital clocks. And second graders were able to read and record the minute times on analogue clocks. Therefore, the ability to recognize analogue times was mastered by second grade. In case of the elapsed-time problems, there was statistically significant difference according to school years or types of problems. Students were successful in solving simple problems. However, the problems that include regrouping hour and minute remained difficult even for the older children. Based on these results, we made a few suggestions for teaching practice about time.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of learner-centered instructions using instructional materials which are developed in the light of constructivism and implementing practices of the instruction. According to the result of Recall Test, experimental group and comparing group have not statistically meaningful difference. However, in the result of Generation Tests which include the contents not dealt with during the experiment treatments, the two groups have statistically meaningful difference. It can be drawn from the result that students who take learner-centered instruction are in a good readiness for learning of the contents which will be addressed in future.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the features of the standards of classification, prediction and reasoning in foreign national science standards and the characteristics of these inquiry processes in the Korean science textbooks. The inquiry process of classification was found less frequently rather than observation and measurement. 'The classification of one character' was much more contained than the higher level of classification, 'the classification of composit character'. For the inquiry process of prediction, most of prediction was 'prediction from experiment result'. In the level of prediction, 'basic prediction' was found more frequently than 'operation prediction'. The inquiry process of reasoning was found more frequently than classification and prediction and was increased in the higher grade textbooks. In the level of reasoning, the higher grade textbooks included 'secondary reasoning' rather than 'simple reasoning'.

  • In this research, the TRIZ program was developed for the growth of creativity of elementary school students. As for the TRIZ program that was developed in this research, it reconfigured the 40 of principles of the TRIZ within current curriculum, so that it would be possible for all elementary school students to receive their education in school for the growth of creativity. In order to adopt the 4-stages-class model that was developed, I made sample kit for utilizing TRIZ, and developed lesson plans along with materials 13-worksheet for lower-grade students, as well as lesson plans along with materials 12-worksheet, for higher-grade students. This program was applied to 2nd grade students of Y elementary school and 6th grade students of J elementary school, and according to the DESK theory, I subdivided the creativity into fluency, flexibility, originality, and exquisiteness, and it was shown that all of fluency, flexibility, originality, and exquisiteness were developed in elementary students who participated in TRIZ program compared with non-participated students. In conclusion, it was possible to understand that TRIZ program was effective for the growth of creativity of elementary school students.

  • In this study, we developed the google spreadsheet education program which focuses on the education data visualization. And we applied it to forth and fifth grade students, and then verified its effect. The developed program was applied to 29 forth and fifth grade students for 36 classes in six days. Application of the program In order to verify the effect on creativity, Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking Figures A and B were introduced and pretests and post tests were carried out. As a result of the verification, it was found that the google spreadsheet education program which focuses on the education data visualization has positive effects on the creativity factors of the elementary school forth and fifth grade students.

  • AI(Artificial intelligence) has brought many changes to our living in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In our daily lives, we can easily access unmanned automatic systems using AI such as unmanned cameras and unmanned delivery boxes. Therefore, AI education has become an important part of daily life in the future. Currently, however, we have very few cases of AI education for young students, such as kindergarten and lower grades in elementary schools. Based on the software education curriculum of kindergarteners and lower graders previously studied, we presented the examples of AI-based teaching and learning activities and presented related AI-based computational thinking by each topic. However, in order for these teaching and learning activities to be applied to public education, it is necessary to secure sufficient class time, improve the educational environment, and actively support teaching activities.

  • To acquire the hints of the development of children's multiplication strategies, this study tried to find the differences between the students who learned multiplication and the students who didn't. And we also tried to explore their acquired computational resources. As a result, we confirm that there is a certain direction on the development of children's multiplication strategies according to their grades and the level of acquirement of mathematical knowledge. Moreover, we comprehend that commutative law is an important part of the strategies on two-digit multiplication and that acquisition of the computational resources must precede the learning of multiplication strategies. In the end part, this article proposes a new taxonomy of strategies for multiplication. To support our proposal, we integrated the prior researches with our findings.
