Recently, many advanced countries have used original ICT tools in their educational courses. But Korea didn't have any effective origin ICT tools in our mathematical education, compared with other countries which have developed various tools, for examples, Web-Mathematica and HP Calculator. Although we have the advanced IT environment, the educational environments in mathematics using ICT seems to be not promising. In this paper, we suggest a new mathematics education tools in ICT and the internet environments in Korea, and a teaching and studyingmodel for the teachers, students and classrooms. It is based on the Sage-Math and RPG. Sage-Math which is the software based on the web and RPG(Random Problem Generator) will give a good answer for the future of Korean mathematics ICT education.
This research aims to look into the mathematically gifted 6th and 7th graders spatial visualization ability of solid figures. The subjects of the research was six male elementary school students in the 6th grade and one male middle school student in the 1th grade receiving special education for the mathematically gifted students supported by the government. The task used in this research was the problems that compares the side lengths and the angle sizes in 4 pictures of its two dimensional representation of a regular icosahedron. The data collected included the activity sheets of the students and in-depth interviews on the problem solving. Data analysis was made based on McGee's theory about spatial visualization ability with referring to Duval's and Del Grande's. According to the results of analysis of subjects' spatial visualization ability, the spatial visualization abilities mainly found in the students' problem-solving process were the ability to visualize a partial configuration of the whole object, the ability to manipulate an object in imagination, the ability to imagine the rotation of a depicted object and the ability to transform a depicted object into a different form. Though most subjects displayed excellent spatial visualization abilities carrying out the tasks in this research, but some of them had a little difficulty in mentally imagining three dimensional objects from its two dimensional representation of a solid figure.
This study examined the characteristics of verbal interactions presented in TS activities with different tasks' openness levels by the cognitive levels of students through the implementation of TS program to 14 fifth graders in gifted class. Results of this study revealed that the open-type TS activities showed higher percentages of verbal interactions than the guiding-type TS activities showed and that the higher the open level of tasks was, the more high-level verbal interactions occurred. These results were showed in almost all subcomponents of verbal interactions. The results according to the students' cognitive levels showed that the higher the cognitive level of students was, higher frequency of interactions, high-level verbal interactions and a variety of verbal interactions occurred. The influence of both cognitive level of students and the task's openness on verbal interactions among students seemed to be interactive, however. In guiding-type activities, the percentage of high-level verbal interactions was not high although the cognitive level of students was high. And students in low level of cognition showed far lower frequency of interactions and their percentage of high-level verbal interactions was low even though the openness of the tasks was high. The results of this study meant that although open-type activities drew higher level verbal interactions by stimulating students' thought, the effects would be limited owing to their low cognitive level. Based on these findings, an implication was suggested that it is important to design instructional strategies and adjust openness level of TS activities to students' cognitive level so as to stimulate the thinking of students in lower cognitive level and to highten their engagement in activities.

The purpose of this study was to develop elementary science programs that used multi-level instruction and to analyze verbal interaction patterns in science classes that applied these programs. For this study, the 27 children from the fifth grade at B elementary school, located in Gyeonggi-do, were selected and separated into heterogeneous groups of four students. Verbal interactions occuring in two groups during each class were recorded using video. Elementary science programs using multi-level instruction were developed to target a fifth grade second semester 'Lesson 1. Human Body'. This program provided a mission form for each group and evaluation form for each child. A mission form depending on the children's level has different colors and levels of difficulty for questions. The evaluation form is composed of questions suitable for a child's level in reaching the goal with key concepts. The verbal interaction was mostly categorized into the cognitive domain and the affective domain for analysis. The cognitive domain was subdivided into question, response, making solution, receiving opinion, and the affective domain was divided into behavioral participation and students' attitude. Results of study showed that the frequency of the cognitive domain was higher than the frequency of the affective domain. In the cognitive domain, the median-level was of highest frequency in the children. In the affective domain, high-level was of highest frequency in the children. In terms of both the cognitive and affective domains of children, low-level exhibited the lowest frequency. Verbal interaction frequency was no difference between high-level and median level in cognitive and affective aspects, so median-level children were actively participating in activities similarly with high-level children. There were more types of interactions question, response, making solution, students' attitude in the median-low level children's verbal interaction than high-median level children's verbal interaction.

The purpose of this study was to develop a plan to ensure that students lacking basic science skills acquire the minimum needed science learning ability while completing the common curriculum. We surveyed 27 elementary and secondary science teachers with experience in research and teaching related to basic skills support to investigate their perceptions of the criteria for minimum achievement standards using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results indicated that the science teachers tended to describe low achievers as lacking science learning competency, accumulating a science learning deficit, and lacking prerequisite knowledge. However, there were some differences in the characteristics that the elementary and secondary teachers paid attention to in students with insufficient science and basic academic skills. Specifically, the secondary teachers demonstrated greater sensitivity towards low learning motivation and difficulties in using scientific symbols, whereas the elementary teachers were more sensitive towards students' attitudes towards science or lack of experience. Furthermore, it has been observed that the prioritization of items, categorized by school level, differs in terms of setting minimum achievement standards to ensure basic skill support. This implies the need to develop minimum achievement standards considering various variables based on the school level. As there are diverse opinions among science teachers, depending on their expertise, regarding the factors to be considered when developing these standards to guarantee science and basic skill support. Based on the findings of the study, policy support is required to enhance teachers' professionalism in developing students' basic skills while considering the individual context and diversity of low achievers. Additionally, it is crucial to establish a shared vision for students lacking basic skills to reduce the gap between national policy and the practices of science teachers in ensuring support for basic skills.

The purpose of this study was to develop the elementary school science instructional material for nurturing students' creativity and to analyze the effects of this material on the changes of students' creativity. This material was composed of student's worksheet and a teacher's guidebook, in which are relevant to the elements of creativity and creative activities that can be applied to elementary science curriculum of 5th and 6th grades. Student's worksheets include various creative activities: imagination, guided imagery, experimental activity, mind mapping as wrap-up, and 'let's think' as an extended activity, game, puzzle, making a cartoon, to be, role playing, and so on. These materials were applied to 5th grade science class, 156 students. They were divided into two groups: the treatment group to which developed material was applied and the control group which was a traditional lecture-centered class. After this material had been applied for 3 months, students of both groups took a test of creativity. Interviews and observation were also carried out with three level groups (higher, medium and lower level) which were divided within the treatment group based on their creativity score. The results of this study were as follows: The treatment group showed higher score on creativity than that of control group(p<0.01). In the result of interviews and observation, the students of the higher and the medium level accomplished their tasks by themselves better than those on lower level. All of them took an interest in visual activity. In a wrapping-up step, the higher level students made mind map more systematically and the medium students improved as time goes on, but low level students feel constrained. In totally, they used various expression methods and were interested in making drawings and cartoons creatively.

This study uses Gagne's 'Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent (DMGT)' to collect and extract major life events of Jang Young-sil, and to investigate how giftedness was formed and developed in his life history, and what factors enabled him to demonstrate his talent in the field of science and technology. In addition, based on the framework of Gagne's Differentiation Model for Giftedness and Talent(DMGT), we analyzed the mechanism of giftedness manifestation of Jang Young-sil and sought to explore the direction of gifted education based on this. To sum up the results of the study, first, in Giftedness(G), it was found that Jang Young-sil had excellent scientific and technological skills. Second, motivation, determination, self-management, and personality factors that constitute the inner catalyst(IC) of the individual have had an impact on the development of giftedness. Third, it influenced the social environment and peer giftedness in environmental catalysis(EC). Fourth, the catalyst of chance or chance(C) was the factor that had the greatest influence on Jang Young-sil's manifestation of giftedness. Fifth, informal learning and non-institutional formal learning in the developmental process(LP) influenced the manifestation of giftedness. In this way, the talent development factors of people such as Jang Young-sil provide implications for the need to understand the manifestation mechanism of giftedness in the future, develop examination tools that can detect giftedness, and develop customized programs that can develop giftedness.

The purposes of this study are to analyze the merits and limits of flipped learning by suggesting the ALP model for efficient application and to test the effects of the new ALP model. The process of new model and program development is based on ADDIE in this study. This study consists of two steps. First through literature research on the difficulties of the flipped learning, the elements are extracted to develop new model. Second, these elements were placed according to the teaching and learning flow, which resulted in the procedures. As a result, the ALP model was developed. The ALP model is a new model for applying teaching and learning methods for efficient application of the flipped learning. This model was applied to elementary science classes to test its effects in scientific communication skill. Interviews and cognitive survey were also conducted to collect additional information. The results of this study are as follows: There were various difficulties in flipped learning. Based on literature research results, the ALP model and the science programs for elementary students have been developed. The experimental group showed statistically meaningful improvement in scientific communication skill. The scientific communication skill has two subcategories: the forms and the types. According to the form analysis results, the experimental group showed a statistically meaningful improvement in the form of Table and Picture, but not in the form of Writing and Number. With the same reason given previously, this study confirmed that the application of ALP model improves the students' visual form communication skills such as Table and Picture better than reading form communication skills such as Writing and Number. According to the type analysis results, the experimental group showed a statistically meaningful improvement in "the scientific insistence" type, and "the justification" which is the sub element of "the scientific insistence" type. With this reason, this study suggests that the class applied ALP model gives students more time and opportunities to learn. Though the survey and interviews about the student's awareness of the class with applied the ALP model, this study showed that students actively exchanged their opinions in the class with applied ALP model.

This study aimed to investigate the role of scientific empathy in influencing students' productive disciplinary engagement in scientific activities and analyze the key factors of scientific empathy that manifest during this process. Twelve fifth-grade students were divided into three subgroups based on their general empathic abilities. Lessons promoting productive disciplinary engagement, integrating design thinking processes, were conducted. Subgroup discourse analysis during idea generation and prototype stages, two of five problem-solving steps, enabled observation of scientific empathy and practice aspects. The results showed that applying scientific empathy effectively through design thinking facilitated students' productive disciplinary engagement in science. In the idea generation stage, we observed an initial increase followed by a decrease in scientific empathy and practice utterances, while during the prototyping stage, utterance frequency increased, particularly in the later part. However, subgroups with lower empathic abilities displayed decreased discourse frequency in scientific empathy and practice during the prototype stage due to a lack of collaborative communication. Across all empathic ability levels, the students articulated all five key factors of scientific empathy through their utterances in situations involving productive science engagement. In the high empathic ability subgroup, empathic understanding and concern were emphasized, whereas in the low empathic ability subgroup, sensitivity, scientific imagination, and situational interest, factors of empathizing with the research object, were prominent. These results indicate that experiences of scientific empathy with research objects, beyond general empathetic abilities, serve as a distinct and crucial factor in stimulating diverse participation and sustaining students' productive engagement in scientific activities during science classes. By suggesting the potential multidimensional impact of scientific empathy on productive disciplinary engagement, this study contributes to discussions on the theoretical structure and stability of scientific empathy in science education.
